Surah Al-An’am: Ayah 151-153
(The Ten Commandments in Islam)
Literal meaning of An’am is Animals
ِبْس ِم الَّلِه الَّر ْح َمِن الَّر ِح يم
ۖ ُقْل َتَعاَلْواَأْتُل َماَحَّرَم َرُّبُكْم َعَلْيُكْمۖ َأاَّل ُتْشِرُكواِبِه َشْيًئ
ۖ ا
Say, “Come, I recite what your Lord has prohibited for you: ‘Do
not associate anything with Him (as partners);
ۖ َوِباْلَواِلَدْيِن ِإْح َس اًنا
and be good to parents,
َأ
ۖ َواَل َتْقُتُلوا ْواَل َدُكم ِّمْنِإْماَل ٍق ۖ َّنْح ُن َنْر ُز ُقُكْم َوِإَّياُهْم
ۖ
And do not kill your children because of poverty – We will give
provision to you, and to them as well –
ۖ َواَل َتْقَر ُبوا اْلَفَواِح َش َما َظَهَر ِمْنَها َوَما َبَطَن
And do not go near shameful acts, whether they are open or
secret;
َواَل َتْقُتُلوا الَّنْفَس اَّلِتي َح َّر َم الَّلُه ِإاَّل ِباْلَح ِّقۚ ۚ َٰذِلُكْم َوَّصاُكم ِبِه َلَعَّلُكْم
151– َتْعِقُلوَن
And do not kill a person whom Allah has given sanctity, except by
right.’ This is what He emphasized for you, so that you may
understand. [151]
َأ َأ
ۖ َواَل َتْقَر ُبوا َماَل اْلَيِتيِم ِإاَّل ِباَّلِتي ِهَي ْح َس ُن َحَّتٰى َيْبُلَغ ُش َّدُه
And do not approach the property of the orphan, except with the
best possible conduct, until he reaches maturity.
َأ
ۖ َو ْوُفوا اْلَكْيَل َواْلِميَز اَن ِباْلِقْس ِط
And give the measure and weight to the full in all fairness –
ۖ اَل ُنَكِّلُف َنْفًس ا ِإاَّل ُوْس َعَها
We do not obligate anyone beyond his capacity –
ُل َل ْل
ۖ َوِإَذا ُق ُتْم َفاْعِد وا َو ْو َكاَن َذا ُقْر َبٰى
And when you speak, be just, even if there be a relative;
6:152 – َوِبَعْهِد الَّلِهَأْوُفواۚ ۚ َٰذِلُكْم َوَّصاُكم ِبِه َلَعَّلُكْم َتَذَّكُر وَن
And fulfill the covenant of Allah.” This is what He has emphasized
for you, so that you may observe the advice. [152]
َوَأَّن َٰهَذا ِصَر اِطي ُمْس َتِقيًماَفاَّتِبُعوُهۖ ۖ َواَل َتَّتِبُعوا الُّس ُبَل َفَتَفَّر َق ِبُكْم َعن
6:153 – َسِبيِلِهۚ ۚ َٰذِلُكْم َوَّصاُكم ِبِه َلَعَّلُكْم َتَّتُقوَن
And: “This is my path, straight. So, follow it, and do not follow the
(other) ways, lest it should take you away from His way.” This is
what He has emphasized for you, so that you may be God-fearing.
