Introduction

Technology is an influence on today's’ young people society, hence it has both positive

and negative impacts on their personal lives. Human life and technology are always related they

cannot be separated. Society has a cyclical co-dependence on technology. We use technology,

depend on technology in our daily life and our needs and demands for technology keep on rising

each day. Humans use technology to travel, to communicate, to learn, to do business and to live

in comfort. However, technology has also caused us concerns. Its poor application by the young

youth has resulted in the pollution of the environment and it has also caused a serious threat to

our lives and society (Petersen, 2018). The biggest challenge facing people is to determine the

type of future we need to have and then create relevant technologies which will simplify the way

we do things. It is impossible to explore how each new advanced technology has impacted our

lives and how it will impact the future.

Technology by its self is not harmful to the society, but the way society and the young

youth uses technology to achieve specific goals is what results into negative impacts of

technology on the society or positive impacts to the society. Like people need to use energy to

process products in factories, to run cars, to light homes and also run technological machines like

computers. I have listed both positive and negative impacts of technology on our society.

Same way the way the young youths use technology is what determines the results on the

impact that will result. As technology can, for example, have both positive impacts and negative

impacts on education. The way the young youth decide to use technology is what determines if

the results will be of good impacts or wrong impacts to them first. Technology impacts the

environment, people and the society as a whole (Petersen, 2018). The way we use technology

determines if its impacts are positive to the society or negative.

Positive impact

As much as technology has disadvantage it also has advantages that help the youth and

make them better people of the society. The following are some of the positive impacts. The first

one is that technology has a great influence on research. Sometimes the school library may not

contain all the documents and articles needed for the student research. Hence the student has a

hard time compelling the necessary document. As long as the school has a computer lab, students

are able to use the Internet and digital encyclopedias to obtain the research they need

(McCoy, 2018).

Secondly, it impacts on distance education. In the past students who took a long distance,

the course was supposed to email their assignment to the convenient lecturer but must attend

their respective test at the university. They had to attend some of their classes to physically. So

technology has not only helped them get easier access to their classes but also they attend their

classes online and wherever they are provided they have internet access they can be able to

attend their respective classes. Nowadays the internet has made it easier for them they can take

the test on the internet at their conveniences.

Thirdly technology has a good impact in the communication sector. Through the internet,

communication is fast and effective and reliable. It can be used for even the long-distance

communication. The internet offers a wide range of communication platform the social media

makes it easier for the young people to communicate with anyone anywhere (William, 2018).

This helps the youth to be able to understand a wide variety of people more, some even get pen

pals online. They are able to even see how other people handle their studying classes and this

makes them better students. Technology also helps them since you can contact the specific

needed authority quickly in case there is an accident.

The fourth point is technology has improved the education and learning process.

Education is the backbone of every economy. Hence the youth need well and organized

educational infrastructures so that they can learn how to interpret information. The youths are

tomorrows’ future hence they should be well impacted in school with all the necessary skills.

Many schools have started integrating educational technologies in their schools with a great aim

of improving the way students learn.

Negative impact

Firstly technology has also led to an increased rate of online bullying .they are no longer

able to escape the bullies by going back home .there the bullies use the internet as their avenue to

torment the kids. The internet also makes it easier to bully people because online people are able

to say things that they can’t say in person. Typical types of bullying include aggressive and

unpleasant emails, private messages and public comments, putting unflattering or manipulated

photos of the bullying target online. (Petersen, 2018). This bullying situation can lead to an

increase in the rate of suicide. Well, other teenagers end up preferring isolation over socializing.

Secondly, technology has made it had for privacy to be protected. Now it’s so easy for

someone to access the address and contact location of where someone is. Some people with bad

intentions use viruses and hackers to get the piece of information that they wish to obtain.

Thirdly leads to poor health. Well, technology can also be addictive. Some studies say

that many teenagers spend a maximum of 21 hours a day on television or their phones. They take

a lot of junk food when they watching the television. This may lead to many of the teenagers

being oversize or obese since they don’t participate in any physical exercises. Hence leading to

serious health problems.

Fourthly it leads to alter of teenage behavior. Many young people are trying to get indent

of themselves. The internet is a global library hence it becomes one of the platforms that teach

the young people about pornography. A high percentage of people have understood more on the

sexual morals through the internet. Young people are also using the internet for sexting. It is

making it easier for young people to take a nude picture of themselves and send to others hence

technology has made it easier for the young people to access the parental guide content whenever

they want to obtain (Bargh, 2004). They also learn about drugs on the internet.in the internet

drugs and alcohols seems cool and since they want to be of better class they end up taking part in

this activities

Lastly, technology is causing an educational distraction. Sometimes we focus on our

device more and we end up to forget what is around us. There are a number of times that

someone is too focused on what they are texting and forget to hear what the person beside them

is telling them. Due to distraction in technology, it has led to people getting accidents and

injuries due to them losing all their focus to the internet and forget they were walking or doing

something (Bargh, 2004). Hence the young people tend to lose the concentration in their studies.

This may lead to their school performance being poor. Hence technology ends up being a

negative impact in their lives.
