Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its Officer-In-Charge Schools Division

LESSON
Have you ever wondered why websites publish new content at a
certain time or date? In any organization including the education sector
and especially in a business world, companies would use statistics to
check how popular their websites are and which month in a year or
specific period they get the most traffic. This period showing more visits could be the
perfect time to upload updated content of the platform.

In the first module of this subject, it mentioned about the static website which
is a platform where in users cannot manipulate or edit the content of the page but it
gives information necessary for users to know details needed.

Let’s take a look at the Website of Rizal High School. It is an institution of

secondary education based in Caniogan, Pasig City in the Philippines. It was listed as
the “largest secondary school in the world” since 1993 by the Guinness Book of World
Records until 2005.

Mr. Roel Galvan is the developer of the school website who is the MIS coordinator
of the Senior High School of this school and teacher of ICT related subjects. The intent
of making this website is to give quick information needed by stakeholders who may
need to know about the school. The school website can be accessed through this link:
http://www.rhspasig.com/index.html.

The above image showed the welcome page of RHS website. It gives you a quick
glimpse of the school background, the current administrators of the school and links
to social media including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram Accounts. You will also see
the original webpage account and this new one. When you want to call the school for
inquiries, you can see school contact numbers in the main page.
Also, in the main page you can see the different strands offered by the school
in the Senior High School level. You can access different tabs including updates in
SBM (School Based Management System), student’s link to portal and registry,
teacher’s portal to LIS and MIS, galley and special announcement of the school that
stakeholders need to know. Mr. Galvan mentioned that website is being updated as
the needs arise and to cater to the needs of those who need the services of the school.

Monitoring the Statistics of the RHS Website

In 2020, the current estimated numbers of visits to the website by general

population demographics are as follows:

The graph above showed that there are 30% visits from Upcoming students of
the school, 25% visits from parents, 20% visits from current students, 10% visits
from the teachers of the school, 10% visits from Alumni while the 5% are from those
who wants to know about the school. In school year 2019-2020, 1,481 students
graduated in senior high school grade 12 curriculum with a total of 11,376 enrolled
students from grade 7 to grade 12 (source: Assistant Principal of the school).
Similar year, the statistics of visits to the website on a monthly basis are as follows:

The graph showed year 2020 statistics of the school website where month of
March – May showed high frequency of visits as well as the month of October and
November while months where school classes is ongoing showed less hits. You can
observed that the months with the high volume of website visitors are enrollment
period for the first and second semester of that year.

Website is crucial for any business, organization and even the education
sector of the society. A website can be used by the school administrators to
accomplish a goal, provide better services and make the people in the organization
keep track of the school accomplishments. It can also serve as platform for social
networking, forums and any type of click-based advertising program to reach a wider
audient who may need the services offered by the organization. There are free or paid
online platform that you can use to create one, you can search it in the web. They are
designed for those who don’t have basic knowledge on program or software use to
design and create a website.

ACTIVITIES
Form a group in your class. Discuss by brainstorming any strategies to make a
website of an organization perform better in terms of services they offer. Here are the
two options that your group can choose as your activity that you must complete:
Option 1: Visit the website of RHS and discover other necessary information,
tool or strategy that a school stakeholders may need and can help the school better
their services. Make a detailed report of your findings and make a proposal to improve
the website. Make sure that your data is supported by a related study about it.
Option 2: Visit any school website and do the rest of the needed report and
proposal, the same as option number 1 but this time it must be other school website.
The rubrics below will be used to score your output. You will submit it to your
teacher.
