05 Assignment 1
Instructions: Provide the requirements for each item to exemplify noise and distortion. Answer the question in at least
three (3) sentences. (30 pts)

1. For 10 seconds, record the static noise between two (2) radio stations while slowly adjusting to reach one specific
station. Smartphone/desktop radio applications are allowed.
Question: What happens to the static noise once it reaches a specific radio station?
- The static noise lessens and almost disappears as it reaches the specific station. However, the static noise
intensifies as I switch from one station to another and clears out again if I have reached the specific station.

2. Find a song that uses distortion. Clip the part with distortion. Start 3 seconds before the distortion starts.
Question: Did distortion improve the song?
- Yes, it did in the song. However, not all songs can use distortion to improve the music. Some, like the one I used
as an example, were some of the best choices to use distortion.

3. For 30 seconds, record yourself talking while background music plays at 20%, 50%, and 90% volume, respectively. Give
10 seconds for each volume level.
Question: What is your observation regarding the effect of the background music on your talking voice?
- I used the same volume of my voice from the records and the recorder was in the same distance between me
and the music source. From the 20% volume of the background music, my voice can be well heard and the music can
be heard as well however it is just in the background. In the 50% volume, the music is almost at the same volume as
my voice. Now at 90% volume, my voice was completely drowned by the music, and it was as if my voice became the
background noise of the music.

4. Upload all the recorded audio on eLMS. Provide a separate Word file for the answers.
