ABSTRACT
This report is submitted on the basis of internship training completed
under the direction of Adv.DEVESH TIWARI (Advocate of high Court of
Chhattisgarh, Bilaspur), from 1june, 2023 to June 30, 2023. Interning
under him provided me with the opportunity to explore various subjects
of law. It has enhanced my research and drafting skills. Constant
supervision from the superior regarding the assignments done helped
me to be active and communicative during the course of my internship.
The report describes the learning experience at the time internship. The
internship proved to be very useful and a guiding factor in the author's
accomplishments. This internship report, as a whole, aims at providing
an insight into the working of the High Court and District Court. The
Internships have an important role to play in any job. But when it comes
to legal work, internship becomes a decisive factor in professional
growth. A law student internship is an opportunity to see the
professional side of the business he or she will enter. This internship has
given me invaluable work experience along with a first-hand view of the
profession.

DESCRIPTIONS OF THE WORK DONE DURING THE

P a g e | 10

INTERNSHIP

June 1
I was nervous and anxious about my first day of internship experience. It started
with a formal introduction with sir . Then we further moved to the discussion of
what would I be learning in upcoming days. Then sir taught hierarchy of courts
and division of courts between civil and criminal cases.

June 2
Second day was very motivational. Our mentor elaborated about the courts and
working of courts. He told us about the ups and downs he faced in his career.
Detailed procedure of how the lawyer work, how they work to earn money. What
are the tricks to better communicate with clients.

June 5
Today ,sir explained some of the basic rules that I had to follow and told us to read
High Court of Chhattisgarh Rules, 2005, after which everyone went to court. He
asked me to visit different courtrooms and learn the roaster of High Court of
Chhattisgarh as it can help us understand better how the different courts are
assigned different types of cases.

June 6
Today I read cases of sir which were done by him previously in the district court .
There were so many files in the office, I selected from the middle section a bunch
of files and read them. It was very difficult to understand as it was first time for
me to study a real file of a client. The cases were of disposed off status. It was
difficult for me to understand

Mentor told about their expectations from us. Piece of Advice –

 Be early to work – around 30 minutes should allow you ample time to find
your workplace. Ensuring you are not late to work on your first day will
always leave a good first impression.

 Pack lunch – there is nothing worse for our concentration and motivation
than being hungry all day

June 8
Today I learnt about provisions of article 226 and 227 of the Indian Constitution
and that were to be read by us thoroughly to mention the difference between
these two. We learned that in petitions under article 226 High Courts exercise
their original jurisdiction and in petitions under article 227, High Court exercise
their supervisory jurisdiction

June 9
Today I started searching about all the previous cases which were disposed off
and read them. Then, I browsed the website of District Court to know the status
of those cases. After that, I read a case argued by sir and discussed it, which was a
very learning experience.

June 12

Today also I read many previous cases

and their related documents and with the
same I read provisions under which those
cases were filed and argued. It was fun to
P a g e | 12

relate a real case with theories and

provisions we read and learnt.

June 13
Today, I witnessed real client discussing his case with sir and telling him
all the required details for the case, all the facts told by him were
listened carefully by sir and some of his juniors and me. Then after the
client left, discussion was done on the same. The day ended up with
clearing all my doubts regarding the new case came to sir.

June 14
On this day there were various civil and criminal case which I observed.
Firstly, my mentor appeared in court of ADJ SUNIL KUMAR
JAISWAL sir. This matter was related to appeal in the ADJ court for the
declaration and injunction where we had already servered the notice to
opponent parties, but only one party replied for the notice which was
send by us and remaining party didn’t reply and hence, the matter
became ex-party.

June 15
Today, I started reading legal news from websites like livelaw.in and
bar&bench.com. Then I also learned about session trial, criminal misc
etc. It was very interesting to know that a single Court can hear 30 to 35
types of cases.
P a g e | 13

June 19
Today also we witnessed the proceedings of the court and met other interns of
other offices and lawyers. Many interns were seen today though we interacted
with very few

June 20
Today I started reading the case of Tulsi vs. Jagganath which was heard in ADJ
court where the judge was Honourable Judge ASHOK KUMAR LAL . This was
the case of Motor Vehicle Act. This was the case of accidental claim where the
proceeding was for plaintiff’s evidence

June 21
In the case of Pradeep vs. Akhtar matter relating to cheque where notice was
already served but the requested party did not appear in the court. Hence the court
imposed a fine of Rs. 500 with an order of arrest warrant. Another case was
relating to divorce was yet to be registered. I got to know how the new cases are
registered.

June 22
Today, I interacted with the clients of sir and asked questions to them which were
regarding their case. They had almost full knowledge of their case and how sir
were going to tackle the situations going to come in the court during the trial .

June 26
Today, I read Right to Information Act, 2005
. It’s an act which provides access to the citizen to get information from
any public authority.
It’s a very interesting act which has provided justice to many people and
also helped to get justice quickly and accurately.

June27
Today I visited a different court which was family court. It was a
wonderful experience for me to visit that Court as many people were
seen there who came for justice. The working pattern was different of
that court also it was comparatively very small in size to that of high
court.

June30
This was the last day of our internship. So there was nothing much for
us to do. A general discussion regarding internship experience, resume,
cover letters etc the staff of the office gave best wishes to us for the
future and even said to remain in contact for future doubts

Learning outcome

Internship is all about practical knowledge,

experience and learning . I got all these
experiences throughout my internship . being
my second internship experience , it was an
outstanding one for me .
I learned various terminologies which were all
synonyms for me before coming here I also
leaned about hierarchy of court. I saw various
things which helped me a lot.
I learned various practical aspects of law, I
also learned how to apply law which we study
theoretically in a practical situation. I learned
how to distinguish that which type of case is a
speciality of judge.
My internship covered various areas and did
not confine to any particular topic. we
discussed law and other things exhaustively
P a g e | 16

and shared our views on various other things

we came across.

CONCLUSION:

The one month duration of internship at Devesh Sir’s office was the best
experience for me because of the variety of cases I could read upon, draft and
research; also letting me appear before the judges in courts such as the Civil Courts
even though I was just an intern back then was really motivating in terms of
overcoming nervousness before a judge. The entire credit goes to my mentor
because of the valuable advice and instructions they gave me everyday after the
completion of work allotted to me. Internship is an important part of academic
curriculum because they help one gain practical knowledge and experience
required to excel in their respective fields. Legal internship is not an exception to
this rule

Internship duties given were-

1. Office type organizational work – photocopy, organising papers, keeping
files in order, organising the desk
2. Reading any suggested law related materials for my own benefit
3. Interacting to various layers in our office
4. Supporting the lawyers that come into the office. Sitting in on meetings
and appointments and offering required assistance.
5. Helping clients if possible
6. Research on judgment data related to facts of case
7. Trying to understand what all justices are given what all other types of
cases mentioned in the roaster of High Court
P a g e | 17

8. Listening to other lawyers proceedings in court so as to gain as much as

possible court craft.
