Cultural context for kentaro miura

- Who is Kentaro Miura


- Kentaro miura is the author and artist of berserk
- When was he born
- 1966
- When did he start working as a manga artist
- 1985
- What was the field of manga like at the time
- Miura stated that the genre was crude when he started his career as a manga
artist. Since many of the tropes of current manga hadn’t been invented it was up
to his generation of artists to create them. Many of the mangas created at the
time took inspiration from movies or popular media and the most popular media
to take inspiration from were Hollywood movies. Some of the most famous
movies to come out at the time were: star wars, Rocky, superman, and Die Hard,
all of which were pretty action-heavy. Kentaro Miura stated in an interview that
Berserk was inspired by a collection of things he found interesting at the time like
Hollywood movies and more specifically a manga named Fist of the north star.
- What type of manga is berserk because of this inspiration
- Fist of the North Star was a story set in a post apocalyptic world and was
published by shonen jump and was therefore considered a shonen anime which
are usually targeted to younger male audiences, but there were very obvious
elements similar to seinen manga, due the explicit imagery and darker topics
discussed in the manga. Berserk was a seinen because of this influence. It
became famous for it’s dark and gritty world and emotional conflicts, which are
very common elements in seinen manga.

- While Miura is japanese and the manga was inspired by Fist of the north star
which was set in a post apocalyptic environment, the world of berserk is set in a
medievel world with the architecture, culture, and characters taking influences
from europe and india.
- Why is this relevant to rakshas
- Rakshas is one of the characters with influence from Indian culture. His name
Rakshas is a short form of the word Rakshasa are demons prominently featured
in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism. These demons are known to have to ability to
change shape at will which is this characters main ability. He is seen multiple
times in the series to have an almost solid form a that is hidden by his cloak. He
is even known to use his mask as a decoy when being attacked showing his
trickster persona.

Berserk is a dark fantasy manga known for its mature themes, complex characters, and intricate
world-building. It tells the story of Guts, a lone mercenary with high combat prowess, who
travels a brutal medieval-inspired world affected by war, corruption, and supernatural horrors.
