**Reflection: September 19, 2024**

During today's Field Study, Ms. Vivian Manzano handled a lesson on converting fractions to
decimals and vice versa with a strong sense of adaptability and commitment. With five sections
to manage—7 Sampaguita, 7 Camia, and three SPFL Program sections (7 Lao Zi, 7 Kong Zi, and
7 Meng Zi)—she skillfully adjusted to the different dynamics of each class. Most students were
shy and hesitant to participate, but a few were eager to engage. Ms. Manzano created a
welcoming environment where all students, regardless of their participation level, felt supported.
What stood out was Ms. Manzano’s attentiveness to students’ concerns. She patiently listened to
those who struggled, ensuring they understood the topic by explaining even the smallest details.
This level of care allowed students to grasp the concepts, even with complex topics like fractions
and decimals.
To ensure her students were learning and paying attention, she utilized formative assessments
throughout the lesson. This real-time feedback allowed her to adjust her teaching, making sure
no one was left behind. Moreover, she knew exactly when to offer praise or give constructive
feedback, motivating students to stay engaged and improve their understanding.
Despite the time constraints of the MATATAG curriculum, where only one lesson can be
thoroughly taught within the 45-minute period, Ms. Manzano effectively managed her time. She
ensured that every minute was utilized, a necessity in the curriculum, which demands focus to
cover all essential lessons. This aligns with feedback from my cooperating teacher, who noted
how tiring it can be under this curriculum, as no time can be wasted.
Additionally, being greeted in Chinese by the SPFL students reflects Ms. Manzano's openness to
the diverse backgrounds of her students, further highlighting her flexibility. Overall, her ability to
balance the curriculum's demands with the unique needs of her students showcases her
dedication to their learning and growth.

**Reflection: September 20, 2024**


On Fridays, our observation schedule is cut short, allowing us only a half-day in the field
due to afternoon classes. This limited time requires us to maximize our observations and make
the most of the morning sessions.
During my recent observation, the two sections I was assigned to focus solely on
reviewing the conversion of fractions to decimals and percentages, and vice versa. The lesson
was straightforward, but I could see how important consistent reinforcement of these concepts is
for student understanding. After the review, the students took a quiz on the same topic, which
gave them a chance to apply what they had just reviewed.
Even though the lesson plan was simple, it demonstrated the importance of steady
practice and assessment to solidify students’ grasp of fundamental math concepts. It also gave me
insight into how teachers manage the pacing of lessons, balancing review with assessment to
ensure the students are ready to move on to more complex topics.
The half-day observations give me a glimpse into a smaller, focused portion of the
teaching process, emphasizing how incremental learning builds up over time.

**Reflection: September 23, 2024**


Attending the Flag Ceremony at Tarlac National High School Main Campus was an
insightful experience, offering a glimpse of the school’s community spirit. I learned that the
ceremony was held in three different locations, but initially, I was confused and ended up at the
Pagcor area, thinking it was the sole venue. This minor detour highlighted the importance of
familiarizing myself with the layout of a large campus.
During the day, I had the opportunity to assist my resource teacher, Ma'am Vivian, with
administering the first-quarter exams. As the students worked on their tests, she reviewed and
graded their notebooks, and I took on the task of recording the results. This activity allowed me
to see firsthand how much work goes into ensuring students are properly assessed, and I
appreciated the organized system my mentor teacher used to track students' progress.
An unexpected power outage briefly interrupted the day, and I volunteered to check if the
computer room had power since its buildings were connected to a different electrical line. This
small task allowed me to step into a problem-solving role, ensuring the smooth continuation of
school activities.
Later, I had the chance to work with my friends and classmates as we assisted Sir Serwin
with tending to the school garden. This group activity not only fostered camaraderie but also
allowed us to contribute to the school environment in a meaningful way.
The day ended earlier than usual due to the Family Day celebration, a reminder of the
importance of balancing academic responsibilities with events that build a sense of belonging
and community within the school. This experience taught me valuable lessons in flexibility,
teamwork, and the daily responsibilities of a teacher.
