Summary
Jonathan Harker was a lawyer and he lived in London. About seven years ago,
some strange and terrible things happened to him. It started when he received a letter
from Transylvania. It was from a rich man called Count Dracula. He wanted to buy a
house near London. The Count asked Jonathan to find him an old house with a large
garden. Jonathan wrote to the Count and he agreed to buy it. There were many papers
which he had to signs. Count Dracula invited Jonathan to visit him in his castle in
Transylvania. But Transylvania was far away. And Jonathan was going to get married in
the autumn with Mina. He did not want to leave England until they were married. But
Mina said that he should go. So, he accepted Count Dracula’s invitation.
On the morning of 4th May, He reached Bistritz, a small town in Transylvania. He
decided to have a meal. Jonathan asked the innkeeper at Bistritz to tell him about Count
Dracula. The innkeeper walked away without answering his question. Then he opened the
book that Mina had given him. There are many old stories about the vampires of
Transylvania. Vampires are men and women who never die. Vampires have long sharp
teeth. They bite the throats of living people. Then they drink their blood. Everyone in
Transylvania fear vampires.
Jonathan didn’t believe that people believe that stories. So he decided to go to
Dracula’s castle. The innkeeper gave attention to Jonathan, but he must go to Dracula’s
castle. The coach began to move more quickly. The coach went faster and faster. He
could hear a terrible sound. It was the howling of wolves. Down the narrow road comes a
small carriage, pulled by four black horses. As the carriage stopped, its driver asked
Jonathan that he came from Castle Dracula and he asked that he found Englishman. The
driver pulled him down from the carriage. In a moment, the carriage and the driver had
disappeared. He had arrived at Castle Dracula.
Count Dracula met Jonathan at the door of his castle. He was a very tall old man.
His hair and face were white and he was dressed in black. Count Dracula took hold of
Jonathan’s arm. He was terribly strong and his hand was as cold as ice. The Count spoke
good English and he asked Jonathan many question, “Can you hear the children of the
night?” the Count said to Jonathan. But Jonathan feel in outside the wolves were howling.
Count Dracula’s face was very close to mine. The fire made his eyes with red light. There
was unpleasant smell in the room. He had very red lips and his teeth were long and sharp.
Dracula asked Jonathan to go to bed and sleep. But he did not sleep well. One more, he
had terrible dreams.
In the morning, Jonathan was shaving in front of his small mirror. Jonathan
surprised when he heard Dracula’s voice behind him, but he had not seen Dracula’s face
in his mirror. Dracula touched the cross around Jonathan’s neck and the fire in his eyes
disappeared. Dracula threw Jonathan’s mirror out of the open window. Jonathan was very
restless. He spent the day looking round the castle. Wherever he went, he found locked
doors. Jonathan begins to think that he was a prisoner in Castle Dracula.
One day, Jonathan feels asleep in an unlocked room. When he was woke up. The air
was full of golden dust. The golden dust changes into the shapes of three young women.
They were very beautiful. Count Dracula had come into the room and pulled the woman
away from Jonathan.
Dracula asked Jonathan to write three letters to Mina. He told Jonathan what to
write. The last letter was dated 29 th June. In the last letter, Jonathan told Mina that he had
left the castle and was on his way home. Jonathan knew then that Count Dracula meant to
kill him. On 29th June, Dracula spoke to Jonathan. He must go to England. And Jonathan
had to make a plan. If Jonathan went to Dracula’s room in daylight, perhaps Dracula
could not harm him. Perhaps he could take his keys and escape at last. Jonathan has free
from Dracula’s castle, after he tried to save himself.
Mina received letters from Jonathan, and she was very worried. Then Mina went to
stay with her friend, Lucy West in Hythe. Lucy was Arthur’s wife. Arthur West was
doctor in Amsterdam. He is staying with Professor Van Helsing, his old teacher. Mina
and Lucy went out walking everyday. Sometimes they walked by the sea. But most of all
Lucy liked to walk to the old church on the hill. She enjoyed sitting in the quite old
churchyard.
There was a storm on the night of 8 th August. Lucy’s servant said that a ship had
been wrecked. It was a Russian ship. It had come a place called Varna. There was
something very strange about the ship. There was no one on it, living or dead.
One night, Mina woke up; Lucy was not in the bedroom. Mina found Lucy in the
churchyard. Mina thought she saw a white face and two red eyes. Mina took Lucy back to
the house. When Mina paining her to bed, she saw two red marks on Lucy’s throat. After
at the night, Lucy became paler and paler. Mina knew her friend was ill. She wanted to
send Arthur a telegram, but Lucy would not let her. But every night, Lucy left her bed
while she was a sleep. Mina had to lock the bedroom door to keep her friend safe.

Then on 19th August, Mina received a letter from a hospital in Budapest. The letter
told that Jonathan is saved. Mina traveled by train to Budapest. Mina asked Jonathan
about Castle Dracula. Jonathan told everything in Castle Dracula to Mina. Mina and
Jonathan were married on 1st September in Budapest. Jonathan and Mina see Count
Dracula was talking to a beautiful woman on their first evening in London.
A telegram was waiting for Mina when she got home. It was from Doctor Arthur
West, Lucy’s husband. The telegram says that Lucy was dead. She was buried yesterday.
Jonathan and Mina went to Hythe after get that telegram.
“Before she died, Lucy began to dream strange dreams”, Arthur told Mina and
Jonathan. Lucy saw red eyes and golden dust moving in the air. Jonathan surprised after
listened it. Arthur tells to them that Lucy was too ill and she had lost a lot of blood.
Professor Van Helsing told than Lucy needs a blood transfusion. Then Jonathan asked to
Arthur what there red marks on Lucy’s throat. Arthur surprised because there were on
Lucy’s throat. When Arthur finished telling to them about Lucy’s death, Mina and
Jonathan’s eyes were full of fear. Because they were afraid that Dracula been drinking
Lucy’s blood.
Mina and Jonathan read a strange story in the newspaper. Some young children
have disappeared from their homes. When they were found, the children were safe. But
there were red marks on their throats after they had met a beautiful lady and kissed them.
Jonathan and Mina knew that she is Lucy and they were afraid about it. Then they told to
Professor Van Helsing. “We have to do there things to stop the vampire”, said the
Professor. First they must open Lucy’s coffin. Then gyre must hammer a sharp piece of
wood through her hearth. Lastly her head must cut off. Then Lucy can rest forever. Then
Van Helsing, Arthur, Jonathan, and Mina have begun their work to finish it. They must
find Couth Dracula and destroy him forever.
One day, they made their plans to destroy Dracula. Van Helsing asked to Jonathan
about Dracula’s house in London. But Jonathan doesn’t remember it, because Dracula
made him forget. Then Van Helsing hypnotized him. And it is being successful. The
three friends go to Dracula’s house in the east of London. And Mina must stay at home.
They must work quickly. The men worked for many hours. They put holy bread in the
boxes in the Dracula’s house.
Back at Jonathan’s house, they found Mina in terrible danger. Dracula has drunk
Mina’s blood. And Mina has drunk his blood too. Because of it, Mina can know planning
of the Vampire. Van Helsing hypnotizes Mina to know the Vampire’s planning. Mina
tells everything about Dracula’s position. Mina has drunk the Vampire’s blood-he has
drunk hers. If Mina dies before Dracula is destroyed, she will be vampire forever.
Count Dracula’s plan has failed. The Vampire was returning to his own country. In
Transylvania he would be safe. And while he lived, Mina was in terrible danger. Count
Dracula had to be destroyed before he reached his castle. Professor Van Helsing
hypnotized her everyday. He hypnotized her before down and before darkness came. So
the friends knew Dracula’s position.
“We must stop Dracula before he reaches the castle.” Van Helsing told them. The
Vampire will be safe in his tomb. Jonathan and Arthur must go up the river to the Castle
Dracula. Mina and Professor bought a small carriage and four fast horses. Mina slept all
day and Van Helsing could not wake her. But as soon as nigh came, she woke up. The
Professor was afraid. Mina was pale and thin. She was becoming more and more like a
vampire.
Castle Dracula looked black against the White Mountains. Van Helsing went on. At
last, he reached the terrible building. When he came to the chapel door, it was wide open!
But the air inside smelt terrible and he could not breathe. The chapel was full of old
tombs. One tomb was bigger than the others. On it was written the name “Dracula”.
When Van Helsing opened the tomb, he saw it was empty. He took out some holy bread.
He put it inside the tomb and closed the lid. The Vampires would never enter it again.
Then Van Helsing found the tombs of the three woman vampires’ hearts. But when the
Professor cut off their heads, the vampires changed to be dust.
Dracula must be destroyed before the light has gone. Jonathan and Arthur were
galloping faster and faster. At last, the two friends reached the cart. Jonathan jumped onto
the cart. He pushed the huge wooden box down onto the snow. The box broke open.
There lay Count Dracula. Jonathan’s long sharp stake was above Dracula’s heart. As the
stake went through the Vampire’s body, Dracula gave a terrible cry. Then Arthur’s knife
cut through the Vampire’s throat. Count Dracula’s body was a heap of dust. The Vampire
was dead. The years of blood and fear were over.

Comment
Many peoples in Europe believe the story about Dracula. Dracula include Vampires
are men and women who never die. Vampires have long sharp teeth. They bite the throats
of living people. Then they drink their blood. This story is very interesting to read,
because we get some knowledge about Dracula. It is a scary story. Jonathan, Arthur,
Mina, and Professor Van Helsing were succeeding to destroy Count Dracula. They have
brave to devead Dracula and safe a lot of people from cruelty of Dracula.
