Verification of Ohm’s Law
Introduction
This laboratory exercise is meant to enable the students to verify Ohm’s of simple circuit and
correlate measured values with the theoretical calculations of voltages and currents through
various circuit elements.
Objectives
1. The following are the broad objectives of this lab:
2. Circuit setup on bread board.
3. Calculate the currents and voltages in the various circuit elements.
4. Use the DMM as an ammeter and voltmeter to measure the various currents and voltages.
5. Explain deviations in results in case these are encountered during the experiment.
Lab Instructions
This lab activity comprises of three parts: Pre-lab, Lab Exercises, and Post-Lab Viva session.
The students should perform and demonstrate each lab task separately for step-wise evaluation
(please ensure that course instructor/lab engineer has signed each step after ascertaining its
functional verification)
Only those tasks that completed during the allocated lab time will be credited to the students.
Students are however encouraged to practice on their own in spare time for enhancing their
skills.

The following equipment would be used in this experiment:

Ohm’s Law
Ohm’s law states that the current I in a resistor is proportional to the potential difference
V across it, provided that the temperature of the object is constant. In equation form, it says,
𝐼 = 𝑉/𝑅 (1)
Where the proportionality constant R is the resistance of the device.
In this experiment, first of all the current flowing through a resistor will be measured as the
voltage across the resistor is varied at a constant value of resistance.
• Ammeter will be connected in series and voltmeter will be connected in parallel.
• Resistance is fixed to 1K Ohm.
• Voltage is changed from 1V to 10V.
For the above circuit, measure the desired parameters and tabulate your experimental results.

After you have completed the lab experiment please return all the equipment back to your lab
attendant.
