LABOUR AND TRADE UNIONS

 Working people (doctors, mechanics,

teachers, etc.) make up the labour force of
the country in which they live.
 A trade union is a group of workers who
come together to fight for their interests.
In Nigeria, the largest trade union is called
the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)
 Workers interests and concerns include
things like fair pay, safe working
conditions, protection against unfair
dismissal and adequate leave.
 When unions feel that workers' demands
are not met or that they are treated
unfairly, they organize strikes, rallies and
marches.
 These are normally quite effective as they
force the government or employers to
negotiate with the workers.
