Seasons

Here is a collection of the words for some songs and rhymes that co-ordinate with the popular early childhood theme "Seasons", and can be used when planning activities and curriculum for young children.

Spring is showery, flowery, bowery, Summer is hoppy, croppy, poppy. Autumn is slippy, drippy, nippy, Winter is breezy, sneezy, freezy

Tune: Jolly Old St Nick Yellow, yellow daffodil, dancing in the sun, Oh yellow, yellow daffodil, you tell me spring has come. I can hear a blue bird sing, and hear a robin call. But yellow yellow daffodil I love you most of all.

Five little flowers standing in the sun See their heads nodding, bowing one by one? Down, down, down comes the gentle rain And the five little flowers lift their heads up again!

I love the flowers. I love the budding trees. I love the chirping birds. I love the buzzing bees. I love the Springtime, When the sun is warm and bright, Boom de-a-da, boom de-a-da, Boom de-a-da, boom, boom.

(Tune:Twinkle Twinkle Little Star) First you dig a little hole, Then you drop some seeds in there. 1

2 Cover them with lots of dirt. Give them water, sun, and care. Now the seeds will start to sprout, Flowers blooming all about!

(Tune:Farmer in the Dell) The farmer plants the seeds The farmer plants the seeds Hi, Ho, the derry O The farmer plants the seeds Additional Verses: The rain begins to fall The sun begins to shine The plants begin to grow The buds all open up The flowers smile at me

Sung to: "Frere Jacques" Dance like snowflakes Dance like snowflakes In the air In the air Whirling, twirling, snowflakes Whirling, twirling, snowflakes Here and there Here and there.

Sung to: "Sailing, Sailing" Snowflakes, snowflakes Falling to the ground. Each one rest so gently They never make a sound. Snowflakes, snowflakes Are so pure and white. The special thing about them is No two are alike.

I'm a little snow person, Short and fat Here are my buttons, And here is my hat. When the snow comes out, I cannot stay. Slowly I just melt away 2

A chubby little snowman Had a carrot nose. Along came a bunny, And what do you suppose? That hungry little bunny, Looking for his lunch. Ate that snowman's carrot nose, Nibble, nibble, crunch!!

Five little snowmen standing in a row, They each have a hat, And a big red bow When the sun shines Where will they go? (shrug shoulders) They melt, melt, melt, melt, melt... (sink down to floor)

Scarecrow, scarecrow, jump up and down Scarecrow, scarecrow, arms up high Scarecrow, Scarecrow, wink one eye Scarecrow, scarecrow, bend your knee Scarecrow, scarecrow, flap in the breeze Scarecrow, scarecrow, climb into bed Scarecrow, scarecrow, rest your head

When all the cows were sleeping, And the sun had gone to bed, Up jumped the scarecrow, And this is what he said, "I'm a Dingle Dangle Scarecrow, with a flippy, floppy hat, I can shake my hands like this, And I can shake my feet like that!"

Sung to: "The Grand Old Duke of York" Oh, the frisky little squirrel He gathers nuts and seeds. He hides them for the winter months So he'll have all he needs. Oh, up up up he goes And down down down he comes. He runs around - goes up and down. His work is never done.

These are brown leaves, fluttering down, And this is the tall tree bare and brown; This is the squirrel with eyes so bright Hunting for nuts, with all of her might This is the hole where, day by day, Nut after nut she stores away When winter comes, with its cold and storm She'll rest curled up, All snug and warm.

6 I'm an acorn, small and round, Lying on the cold, cold ground. People pass and step on me, That's why I'm all cracked, you see. I'm a nut, (clap, clap) I'm a nut (clap, clap) I'm a nut, (clap, clap) I'm a nut. (clap, clap)

A big, grey elephant I went to see He had four legs and he was bigger than me He had two ears so big and round And one long trunk that made a sound EEEEEEEEE!

An elephant has a great big trunk That goes swinging to and fro. (Clasp hands to make trunk swing) And he has tiny, tiny eyes, That show him where to go. His great big ears go flopping, While his great big feet go stomping, stomping, STOMPING on the ground!

The yellow giraffe is tall as can be. His lunch is a bunch of leaves off a tree. He has a very long neck and his legs are long too. And he can run faster than I can, too!

A rhinoceros, a rhinoceros Sometimes he makes a dreadful fuss. He has a big horn on his nose. He snorts and rumbles as he goes. He's very long and very wide. He has a very wrinkled hide. He has big hoofs on his four feet. We feed him grass and hay to eat. A rhinoceros, a rhinoceros, Is surely not a pet for us.

A hip, a hip, a hippopotamus Got on, got on, got on a city bus... And all, and all, and all the people said, You're squishing us!!!!!!!!!

When we clap, clap, clap our hands.

Weather

Here is a collection of the words for some songs and rhymes that co-ordinate with the popular early childhood theme "Weather", and can be used when planning activities and curriculum for young children.

The wind came out to play one day. It swept the clouds out of his way. (Make sweeping motion with hands.) It blew the leaves and away they flew. (Make fluttering motions with fingers.) The trees bent low and their branches did too! (Lift arms high and lower them.) The wind blew the great big ships at sea. 10

11 (Repeat sweeping motion.) The wind blew the kite away from me!

Feel the strong wind, it almost blows me down Hear it whistle through the trees and all around Try to see the wind as it howls and blows But what the wind looks like? Nobody knows Sung to: "Twinkle, Twinkle, little star" Look outside now; can you say What the weather is like today? Is there sunshine, is there rain, Is wind blowing down the lane? Are there snowflakes falling down, Are there big clouds floating around? Look outside now; can you say What the weather is like today?

Tune: Where is Thumbkin? It is raining, it is raining, On my head, on my head. Pitter, patter raindrops, Pitter, patter raindrops, I'm all wet, I'm all wet!

One puddle, two puddles made by the rain. Three puddles, four puddles, down in the lane. Five puddles, six puddles we can wade through. Seven puddles, eight puddles quite muddy, too! Nine puddles, ten puddles covering tiny roots Eleven puddles, twelve puddles - we all need our boots!

Rain on the green grass (wiggle fingers down to floor and out wide) And rain on the trees (wiggle fingers up and over head) Rain on the housetop, (Make an upside-down "V" with hands) But NOT on me. (arms over head to make an umbrella)

Pitter-pat, pitter-pat (drum fingers on the floor) The rain goes on for hours 11

12 And though it keeps me in the house It's very (hold out two fists, palms up) Good For (open fists) Flowers (raise and turn hands upwards)

Sung to: "Hush Little Baby" I see the wind when the leaves dance by. I see the wind when the clothes wave "Hi!" I see the wind when the trees bend low. I see the wind when the flags all blow. I see the wind when the kites fly high. I see the wind when the clouds float by. I see the wind when it blows my hair. I see the wind most everywhere!

If you feel the blustery wind, Whirl around If you feel the blustery wind, Whirl around. If you feel it lift your hair Like a kite up in the air, If you feel the blustery wind, Whirl around.

When I look into the sky I can see the clouds go by They dont ever make a sound Letting wind push them around Some go fast and some go slow I wonder where the clouds all go.

What is fluffy white and floats up high, Like a pile of cotton in the sky? And when the wind blows hard and strong, What very gently floats along? What brings the rain? What brings the snow That showers down on us way down below? When you look up in the sky, (look up) What is that thing you see floating by? (Clouds)

12

13

Sung to: "Hush, Little Baby" Rainbow purple, rainbow blue Rainbow green and yellow, too Rainbow orange, rainbow red Rainbow smiling (appearing) overhead.

(tune of Oh, Christmas Tree) Oh rainbow, oh rainbow How lovely are your colors Oh rainbow, oh rainbow How lovely are your colors Purple, red, and orange too Yellow, green, and blue so true Oh rainbow, oh rainbow How lovely are your colors.

Red and yellow and pink and green, Purple and orange and blue, I can sing a rainbow, Sing a rainbow, Sing a rainbow too

Pitter-patter raindrops falling from the sky. Here is my umbrella to keep me safe and dry. When the rain is over the sun begins to glow. Little flowers start to bud and grow and grow and grow.

One day the sun was shining bright. (Hold up right hand for sun) But clouds came along, it was dark as night. (Hold up left hand for clouds) The rain began to sprinkle down. (Wiggle both hands for rain coming down) Soon it was raining all over town. But when the clouds had passed on by, (Move both hands to the right) A beautiful rainbow stretched across the sky. (Left hand makes arc over head from right to left) 13

14

The wind, the wind, Is passing through Rustling leaves, Whispering to the trees. I'm the west wind, I bring the summer rain, When I blow softly, I whisper your name

Boom, bang, boom, bang Rumpety, lumpety, bump! Zoom, zam, zoom, zam Clippety, clappety, clump Rustles and bustles and swishes and zings What wonderful noises a thunderstorm brings.

The snow fell softly all the night It made a blanket soft and white It covered houses, flowers, and ground But did not make a single sound! Shhhhh!

Snowflakes are falling by ones and by twos They fall on my shoulders and on my shoes They stick to my eyelashes and to my nose They stick to my mittens and to my clothes But best of all they stick together To make the biggest snowballs ever

Snow, snow swirling round, Falling to the ground, What an icy sight you make, Dancing all around. Snow, snow swirling round, Flying through the air, What a wintery sight you make, Dancing everywhere.

All About Me
14

15 Here is a collection of the words for some songs and rhymes that co-ordinate with the popular early childhood theme "All About Me", and can be used when planning activities and curriculum for young children.

Wiggle your fingers, waggle your fingers, Shake your fingers so, Stretch right out to touch a friend, And theyll be glad to know YOU!!

I have a loose tooth, a wiggly jiggly loose tooth I have a loose tooth A-hanging by a thread. So I pulled my loose tooth My wiggly jiggly loose tooth Put it beneath my pillow And then I went to bed. The fairy took my loose tooth My wiggly jiggly loose tooth And now I have a nickel And a hole inside my head.

A tooth fell out and left a space so big my tongue can touch my FACE. And every time I smile, I show A space where some-thing used to grow. I miss my tooth, as you may guess, but then- I have to brush one less

When I was one, I was very small. I was not very fat, I was not very tall. I had tiny feet and tiny toes, Tiny fingers and a tiny nose! A little bit bigger, each day I grew. I looked at me when I was two. I could jump, I could run, I could talk, and it was fun! I grew some more and now I'm three. I feel so big when I look at me. I have bigger feet and bigger toes, Bigger fingers and a bigger nose!

A pair of eyes here on my face. A pair of eyebrows right in place. A pair of ears to hear a sound. A pair of legs to run around. A pair of shoulders strong and wide. A pair of hips, one on each side. A pair of ankles near my feet, A pair of hands all washed and neat.

Here is my tongue that helps me speak, Here are my shoulders and here are my cheeks Here are my hands that help me to play, And here are my feet that go walking each day.

On my face I have a nose, And way down here I have ten toes. I have two eyes that I can blink. I have a head to help me think. I have a chin and very near, I have two ears to help me hear. I have a mouth with which to speak, And when I run I use my feet. I have two arms to hold up high, And here's a hand to wave GOODBYE!

(Tune: 3 Blind Mice) All by myself, all by myself. See what I can do, see what I can do. I can brush my teeth and my hair so neat I can put my socks and shoes on my feet, I can get my napkin and my snack to eat, All by myself.

This is the way you bat the ball, Bat the ball, bat the ball, This is the way you bat the ball When you play baseball. ...catch the ball.. ...throw the ball... ...run the bases

This is my right hand I'll raise it up high This is my left hand I'll touch the sky Right hand, left hand, Roll them around Left hand, right hand, Pound, Pound, Pound.

Ican make a big balloon Watch me while I blow Small at first, then bigger, Watch it grow and grow and grow. Do you think you think it is big enough? Maybe I should stop. For if I blow much longer, 20

21 My balloon will surely pop!

Bend and stretch up so high, Stand on tiptoe, touch the sky Bend and stretch and see me grow, I'm so tall from head to toe!

A mouse lived in a little hole, Lived softly in a little hole, When all was quiet as quiet can be... OUT POPPED HE!

Sung To: "Kookaburra" Raccoon sleeps in a hollow tree While the sun shines on you and me. Sleep, raccoon. Sleep, raccoon, Warm and cozily. In the darkest part of night Raccoon has the best eyesight. I saw a little creature that was slimy, smooth, and wet. I thought it was the oddest thing that I had ever met. It was something like a lizard, but it had no scales at all. It was something like a frog, but it didn't hop- it crawled. So I took it to my teacher and she told me right away, " I see you brought a salamander into class today." There was a little turtle And he lived in a box He swam in a puddle, And he climbed on the rocks. He snapped at a mosquito He snapped at a flea, He snapped at a minnow, And he snapped at me. "Peep, Peep, Peep", said baby bird number three, I hope she can find this tree. "Peep, Peep, Peep, Peep", said baby bird number four, She never was so late before. "Peep, Peep, Peep, Peep, Peep", said baby bird number five, When will our mother bird arrive? Well, here she comes to feed her family (use left hand as mommy bird) They're all as happy as can be!

Sung To: "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" Little bird, little bird, fly around, Up to the sky, down to the ground. Little bird, little bird, flap your wings. Open your beak and sweetly sing. Little bird, little bird, fly to your nest. Now it is time to take a rest.

Two little penguins sitting on the ice. (Hold up both index fingers) One bows once, the other bows twice. (Make index fingers bow) Waddle little penguins, waddle away. (Put fingers behind back) Come back penguins, time to play. (Bring fingers to the front) Six little penguins off an iceberg did dive, One bumped his beak, then there were five. 79

80 Five little penguins swam the ocean floor, One saw a whale, then there were four. Four little penguins spun around, whee-ee! One spun off, then there were three! Three little penguins, with nothing to do, One went fishing, then there were two. Two little penguins, having lots of fun, One fell off, then there was one. One little penguin, when the day was done, Went home to sleep, then there were none. (Chant: Military Sound off 1,2) I'm a penguin, black and white, I can't fly but that's all right. I've got feathers, that's not fur, And I lay eggs like other birds. I just swim to get my meals But I watch out for leopard seals. I'm from the south as you may know And now it time for me to go.

If I were a bird, Id sing a song And fly about the whole day long And when the night comes, go to rest, Up in my cozy little nest.

102

103

Here is a collection of the words for some songs and rhymes that co-ordinate with the popular early childhood theme "Space", and can be used when planning activities and curriculum for young children.

Sung to: "One little, Two little, Three little Indians" One little two little three little planets Four little five little six little planets Seven little eight little nine little planets Orbiting the sun. Mercury Venus and the Earth Mars Jupiter and Saturn Uranus Neptune and Pluto Orbiting the sun.

Twinkle, twinkle, little star, I know what you really are: Giant ball of glowing gas, one of billions in a mass! Twinkle, twinkle, little star, oh, how big you really are! Twinkle, twinkle, giant star, larger than the Earth by far! Since your distance is a lot, you look like a tiny dot. Twinkle, twinkle, giant star, very bright, yet very far! Stars are twinkling, every one, some are bigger than the sun! Just a twinkle in the sky, just because youre oh, so high! Twinkle, twinkle, little star, oh how big you really are.

The tiny stars you see at night Are like our sun, so warm and bright But far away, they look so small They barely give us light at all.

Sung to: "Where have you been Billy Boy?" Tell me, where have you been, astronaut, astronaut? Tell me, where have you been in your rocket? I have landed on the moon, and I may return there soon With a space station that will help me dock it! Tell me, what did you do, astronaut, astronaut? Tell me, what did you do in your rocket? I took pictures of the stars And the craters found on Mars, And I brought home some moon rocks In my pocket! Put on your spacesuit. We're going to the Moon. Climb aboard your rocket ship. We're going to blast off soon. Put on your helmet. Strap yourself in tight.

Check your controls and instruments. Get ready for the flight. Time for your journey. The countdown has begun. Here we go, Get ready, Get set! 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

Where should I live? In a castle with towers and a moat? Or on a river in a houseboat? A winter igloo made of ice may be just the thing But what would happen when it turned to spring? I like tall apartments and houses made of stone. But I'd also like to live in a blue mobile home. A cave or a cabin in the woods would give me lots of space But I guess my home is the best place!
