SANCTIFICATION IS A PROCESS

Hebrews 10:10 By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus
Christ once for all.
Hebrews 10:14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.
2 Thessalonians 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren
beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through
sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth
2 Cor 3:18 we are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory (glory to
glory) which comes from the Lord who is the Spirit

SANCTIFICATION DESCRIBES BEING SET APART (HOLY)

Gen 2:3 First occurrence:- Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it
He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
He set the day apart. It is the same word for Holy.
Opposite is UNCLEAN, CO-MINGLED, UNHOLY
Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day to sanctify it
Purpose is Heb 12:10 partakers of His holiness; 2 Peter 1:4 partakers of His divine nature
Holy, Holy, Holy
Sanctified from sin (Romans 6:19,22 = 19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness of
your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of
lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your
members as slaves of righteousness for holiness. 22 But now having been set free from sin,
and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit [a]to holiness, and the end,
everlasting life.; 1 Thess 4:7 – For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. note
the contrast) i.e., circumcision
Circumcision is a means of setting apart, a sign of the promise
Circumcision of the heart Romans 2:29. Circumcision is a cutting off of the flesh. The flesh
signifies lust and sin Gal 5:24; Gal 5:19-21; Gal 6:8 he who sows in the flesh will reap
corruption; Romans 8:7 – carnal mind is enmity with God
Sanctified from worship of other Gods Gen 35:1-5 Jacob purifying himself
Sanctified from the world
Leviticus 20:26: "You are to be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have separated
you from the nations to be my own."
Proverbs 4:14-15: "Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of the
evil. Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn away from it and go on."
Isaiah 52:11: "Depart, depart, go out from there! Touch no unclean thing! Come out from it
and be pure, you who carry the vessels of the Lord."
2 Cor 6:17 Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not
touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.
1 Peter 2:11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners (aliens) and pilgrims (strangers), abstain from
fleshly lusts which war against the soul,
John 17:16 “They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.”
Friendship with the world is enmity with God
All that is in the world is the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life
Setting apart of the mind – Col 3:2 Set your mind on the things above
Set your heart – Matt 6:21 Where your treasure is there your heart is also

SANCTIFICATION DESCRIBES OWNERSHIP => Exodus 13:2 Set apart the first born
Gal 2:20 It is no longer I that liveth but Christ that liveth in me, the life that I now live I live by
faith in the Son of God. This is a sanctification that is available because of death of Jesus
Christ. Closely tied to the redemption
Phil 1:21 For me to live is Christ, to die is gain
Eph 6:6 Bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart

SANCTIFICATION IS BECAUSE OF THE BLOOD => Heb 13:12 Therefore Jesus also, that He
might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate.
It is in sanctification that we become a sanctuary. Sanctuary also comes from the same root
word. Know ye not that ye are the temple of the Holy Ghost
You are my hiding place – Rev 21:22 Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.

purified seven times. THE PURITY is compared to Purified Silver, not the word
Redemption Shekel Exodus 30:11-15; Exodus 38:25,26 From these two portions we know
silver was the coin for redemption (purchase or repurchase).

Leviticus 27:3-7

Joseph sold for 20 silver coins because he was 17 years old. Jesus for 30 silver coins because
that was the redemption price for his bride the church. Therefore, marriageable age??

without shedding of blood there is no remission.

light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an

[a]sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our
God.

Titus 3:5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He
saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

SANCTIFICATION IS JESUS CHRIST - John 17:19, Jesus Himself is sanctified. We who are one
with Him are sanctified

me to do ministry; Psalm 45:7 => anointed with the oil of gladness; Acts 10:38 Jesus Christ 2
