Years ago, and long before I began
In hdc-tbl and larger hook, 4 sts and
designing shawls, I came across a famous
2 rows = 1", 16 sts and 8 rows = 4"
Italian designer’s crocheted shawl with cir-
cular motifs along the bottom edge of the finished size
otherwise simple, mesh triangular shawl. 44 x 72" (112 cm x 1.8 m)
I fell in love with the relationship of simplic-
ity to complexity in the shawl, and created
my own interpretation of the concept in
The Maya shawl. The body of the shawl
features half double crochet through the
back loops, leaving a lovely, sharp, linear
detail where the free front loops parallel
the more complex motifs along the border.
The motifs are joined as you go and the
triangular section is picked up from the top
of the motifs, therefore–no sewing!
