1. SCOPE
This specification cover 0.6/1 V copper conductor, XLPE insulated, individual and collective shield, PVC
Bedding, Galvanized Steel wire Armoured, FR-PVC outer sheathed Signal cables.
2. CODE AND STANDARDS
- IEC 60228 (1978): Conductor of insulated cable.
- IEC 60502-1 (2004): Power cables with extruded insulation and their accessories for rated voltages
from lkV (Um=1.2kV) up to 30kV (Um=36kV) - Part 1: Cables for rated voltages of lkV (Um=1.2kV)
and 3kV (Um=3.6kV)
- IEC 60332-3 (2004): Test on electric cables under fire conditions
3. CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIALS
3.1 CONDUCTORS
3.1.1 The conductors shall be Class 2 of plain annealed copper in accordance with IEC 60228.
3.1.2 The conductors shall be circular stranded. Conductor diameter is specified in the appropriate
tables. The outermost layer direction of stranded conductor shall be left hand (S).
3.1.3 The DC resistance of each conductor at 20°C shall not exceed the maximum value specified in
the appropriate tables.
3.2 INSULATION
3.2.1. Material
Insulation consisting of Cross linked polyethylene compound shall be applied concentrically
on the surface of the conductor. The insulation shall meet requirement specified in lEe.
The XLPE insulation shall be suitable for use at conductor temperature not exceeding 90°C
for normal operation and 250°C for short circuit conditions (5 seconds maximum duration).
3.2.2. Thickness
The nominal insulation thickness is specified in the appropriate tables.
The average thickness of insulation shall be not less than the specified nominal value.
The thickness at any place may, however, be less than the specified nominal value provided
that the difference does not exceed O.lmm + 10% of the nominal value.
3.3 PAIRING
Two insulated cores shall be twisted into a pair without fillers except single pair cable. In case of
single pair cable, a suitable binder tape shall be wrapped helically over the twisted pair with
suitable lap
3.4 CORE IDENTIFICATION
3.4.1 Individual pair
The individual pair shall be identified by different colouring and the colol;lr ,scheme shall be
black and white. .
3.4.2 Multi- pair
The pair of multi-pair cable shall be identified by' surface printing of pair numbers in figure
repeated in regulation distance on the black colour insulation.

3.2 INSULATION

The PVC insulation shall be suitable for use at conductor temperature not exceeding 70°C for
normal operation and 160°C for short circuit conditions (5 seconds maximum duration).
3.2.2. Thickness
The nominal insulation thickness is specified in the appropriate tables.

3.3 OUTER SHEATH
3.3.1 Material

The outer sheath shall be an extruded layer of UV resistant, withstand oil refinery environment
and Flame retardant PVC (FR-PVC) compound and complying with the appropriate test
requirement specified in IEC 60502-1 and IEC 60332-3.
3.3.2 Thickness
The nominal thickness of the outer sheath is specified in the appropriate tables.
The smallest thickness at any point shall not fall below 85% of the nominal value by more than
O.lmm.
4. IDENTIFICATION
4.1 CABLE MARKING
The following information shall be indelibly marked on the surface of the outer sheath at regular
interval not greater than one meter over throughout the length of cable.

separation sheath, galvanized Steel tape Armoured, FR-PVC outer sheathed power cables. .
2. CODE AND STANDARDS
- IEC 60228 (1978): Conductor of insulated cable.
- IEC 60502-2 (2005): Power cables with extruded insulation and their accessories for rated voltages from
lkV (Um=1.2kV) up to 30kV (Um=36kV) - Part 2: Cables for rated voltages from 6kV (Um=7.2kV) up
to 30kV (Um=36kV).
- IEC 60332-3 (2004): Test on electric cables under fire conditions.
3. CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIALS

test requirement specified in IEC 60502-2.
The XLPE insulation shall be suitable for use at conductor temperature not exceeding 90°C
for normal operation and 250°C for short circuit conditions (5 seconds maximum duration).
3.3.2. Thickness
The nominal insulation thickness is specified in the appropriate tables.
The average thickness of insulation shall be not less than the specified nominal value.
The smallest thickness at any point shall not fall below 90% of nominal value by more than
O.lmm.
The thickness of semi-conducting screen on the conductor or over the insul~ion layer shall
not be included in the thickness of the insulation.
3.4. INSULATION SCREEN
Insulation screen shall consist of a non-metallic semi-conducting part in combination with a
metallic part.
3.4.1. Non-metallic screening:
Non-metallic screening shall be extruded semi-conducting compound and strippable from
insulation. The minimum thickness of insulation screen shall be 0.5mm at any point.
4.2 MARKING
4.2.1 Cable marking
The following information shall be indelibly marked on the surface of the outer she"ath at
regular interval not greater than one meter over the entire length of the cable.
1) Voltage rating (3.6/6 (7.2) kV)

3.3 ASSEMBLY OF CORES AND FILLERS
In case of multi-core, the cores of the cable shall be laid up together in a helical formation.
Where necessary, polypropylene filler may be used to give the completed cable substantially circular
cross- section and polypropylene string may be used to fill the center of the core and a suitable tape
shall be applied helically over the cable core to form a compact circular cable.
3.4 SEPARATION SHEATH:
3.4.1. Material
Separation sheath shall be extruded PVC and complying with the appropriate test requirement
specified in IEC 60502-1.
3.4.2. Thickness
The nominal separation sheath thickness is specified in the appropriate tables.
The smallest thickness at any point shall not fall below 80% of the nominal value by more than
0.2mm. .
3.5 ARMOURING:
The metallic annour shall consist of single layer of galvanized steel round wire applied helically over
the bedding core. The maximum tolerance allowance is 5% nominal diameter of the wire.
The annour wire shall be closed with a minimum gap between adjacent wires. The direction of lay is
opposite of the cable core.
The nominal diameter of the wire is specified in the appropriate tables.
3.6 OUTER SHEATH
3.6.1 Material
The outer sheath shall be an extruded layer of Black UV resistant, withstand oil refinery
enviroment and Flame retardant PVC (FR-PVC) compound and complying with the
appropriate test requirement specified in IEC 60502-1 and IEC 60332-3.
3.6.2 Thickness
The nominal thickness of the outer sheath is specified in the appropriate tables.
The smallest thickness at any point shall not fall below 80% of the nominal value by more than
0.2mm.
4. IDENTIFICATION
4.1 IDENTIFICATION OF CORES
The cores of multi-core cables shall be identified by colourd tape inserted between the conductor and
insulation in accordance with following sequence:

1. SCOPE
This specification cover 0.6/lkV copper conductor, XLPE insulated, PVC Bedding, Galvanized Steel
wire Armoured, FR- PVC outer sheathed Control cables. •
2. CODE AND STANDARDS
- IEC 60228 (1978): Conductor of insulated cable.
- IEC 60502-1 (2004): Power cables with extruded insulation and their accessories for rated voltages
from lkV (Um=1.2kV) up to 30kV (Um=36kV) - Part 1: Cables for rated voltages of lkV (Um=1.2kV)
and 3kV (Um=3.6kV)
- IEC 60332-3 (2004): Test on electric cables under fire conditions
3. CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIALS
3.1 CONDUCTORS
3.1.1 The conductors shall be class 2 of plain annealed copper in accordance with IEC 60228.
3.1.2 The conductors shall be circular stranded. Conductor diameter is specified in the appropriate
tables. The outermost layer direction of stranded conductor shall be left hand (S).
3.1.3 The DC resistance of each conductor at 20°C shall not exceed the maximum value specified in
the appropriate tables.
3.2 INSULATION
3.2.1. Material
Insulation shall be extruded cross-linked polyethylene and complying with the appropriate test
requirement specified in IEC 60502-1.
The XLPE insulation shall be suitable for use at conductor temperature not exceeding 90°C for
normal operation and 250°C for short circuit conditions (5 seconds maximum duration).
3.2.2. Thickness
The nominal insulation thickness is specified in the appropriate tables.
The average thickness of insulation shall be not less than the specified nominal value.
The thickness at any place may, however, be less than the specified nominal value provided
that the difference does not exceed O.lmm + 10% of the nominal value.
3.3 ASSEMBLY OF CORES AND FILLERS
In case of multi-core, the cores of the cable shall be laid up together in a helical formation.
Where necessary, polypropylene filler may be used to give the completed cable substantially circular
cross- section and polypropylene string may be used to fill the center of the core and a suitable tape
shall be applied helically over the cable core to form a compact circular cable.
3.4 SEPARATION SHEATH:
3.5.1. Material
Separation sheath shall be extruded PVC and complying with the -appropriate test requirement
specified in IEC 60502-1.
3.5.2. Thickness
The nominal separation sheath g thickness is specified in the appropriate tables.
The smallest thickness at any point shall not fall below 80% of the nominal value by more than
0.2mm.

3.5 ARMOURING:
The metallic annour shall consist of galvanized steel round wire applied helically over th.e bedding
core. The maximum tolerance allowance is 5% nominal diameter of the wire. •
The annour wire shall be closed with a minimum gap between adjacent wires. The direction of lay is
opposite of the cable core.
The nominal diameter of the wire is specified in the appropriate tables.
3.6 OUTER SHEATH
3.6.1 Material
The outer sheath shall be an extruded layer of UV resistant, withstand oil refinery environment
and Flame retardant PVC (FR-PVC) compound and complying w~th the appropriate test
requirement specified in IEC 60502-1 and IEC 60332-3.
3.6.2 Thickness
The nominal thickness of the outer sheath is specified in the appropriate tables.
The smallest thickness at any point shall not fall below 80% of the nominal value by more than
0.2mm.
4. IDENTIFICATION

The cores of multi-core cables shall be identified by numbering.
