INTRODUCTION
Social media has turned into a an essential elements of individual lives including students in
today's world of communication. It use is growing is more significantly more than ever before
especially in the post pandemic eva marked by a great revolution happening to the education
system. Recent investigations of using social media show that approximately 3 billion
individuals worldwide are now communicating via social media (lwamoto and Chun,2020). This
growing population of social media user is spending facts and figures show that individuals
spent 2 h a day on average on a variety of social media applications. Exchanging pictures and
message updating status treating favoring and communicating on many updated socially shared
information about 2017.
Researchers have begun to investigate the psychological effects of using social media on
students' lives. Chukwuere and Chukwuere (2017) maintained that social media platforms can
be considered the most important source of changing. individuals mood, because when
someone is passively using a social media platform seemingly. with no special purpose, s/he can
finally feel that his/her mood has changed as a function of the nature of content overviewed

important as students are seen to be using social media platforms more than before and social

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
the rapid proliferation of social media platforms has become a significant aspects of the daily
lives of adolescent in including grade 11 student. While social media offer numerous benefits,
such as facilitating communication and providing educational resources, it's pervasive use
also raises concerns about its impact of students academic performance and overall well-
being. The study seeks to investigate the influence of social media on grade 11 students,
specifically performance, social interactions and mentalize.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
The study involve five respondent in grade 11 students at DMMIS, the data were gathered
from the students of DMMIS, true Through in depth interviews. The study was dependent on
the ability of five students to describe their experience and answer the interview questions.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Though social media, as the name suggests, is expected to keep people connected, probably
this social connection is only superficial, and not adequately deep and meaningful to help
individuals feel emotionally attached to others.
1. Students: Understanding how social media affects academic performance can empower
students to make informed choices about their online activities, manage their time
effectively, and prioritize their academic responsibilities.
2. Teachers: Awareness of the impact of social media on students' academic performance
enables teachers to tailor instructional strategies, integrate digital literacy skills into the
curriculum, and provide support and guidance to students struggling with social media-
related distractions.
3. Schools: Schools can use findings from the study to develop policies and initiatives that
promote responsible social media use, create awareness about the potential consequences of
excessive screen time, and foster a conducive learning environment that balances technology
use with academic success.
METHODS
(PROCESS OF THE STUDY)
The study adopted a descriptive survey research design involving the selection of some
respondent from the population in order to access their opinions as the general view of the
entire population. The research design adapted is suitable because none of the variables in
the study was manipulates.
RESEARCH DESIGN
The study made use of expost facto research design. According to Nworgu(44) an expost facto
research design is a type of study which tries to establish cause and effect relationship
between variable of interest that cannot be manipulated.

RESPONDENT 1 : when i encounter negative experience on social media like cyberbullying or
seeing heartful comments i try to take a break from the platform and focus on activities that
that make me feel good. Like listening to music or going for a walk talking to a trusted friend
or family members also helps me feel supported.
RESPONDENT 2:"I find that practicing mindfulness techniques, such as deep breathing or
meditation, helps me manage negative emotions that arise from social media. I also make
sure to unfollow accounts or mute notifications that trigger negative feelings, and I remind
myself that what I see on social media isn't always an accurate representation of reality."
RESPONDENT 3: When I'm feeling down because of something I saw on social media, I try to
shift my focus to things that I enjoy and that make me feel confident and happy. This might
involve spending time with my pets, doing a creative activity like drawing or writing, or
watching funny videos to lighten my mood."
RESPONDENT 4: "I've found that setting boundaries around my social media use helps me
cope with negative experiences. For example, I limit the amount of time I spend on social
media each day and make sure to prioritize activities that nourish my mental health, like
exercising or spending time outdoors."

myself of my worth and value outside of online validation. I focus on building strong
relationships with friends and family in real life, and I seek out positive online communities
that support my interests and passions."

online and offline relationships
