A
Students are in a constant search of opportunities that make them better academically and more
competitive in job markets. As a result, more and more students are now interested in studying
in foreign countries, rather than their home country. Improved transportation has made
travelling between countries very easy. It has especially made studying abroad easier. Students
all over the world are taking advantage of this development, and the number of students going
abroad for higher education is increasing rapidly every year.
B
International students, or foreign students, are students who choose to undertake all or part of
their college or university education in a country other than their own. They go to live in a
foreign country for this purpose. International students are an interesting group of people. They
come from different countries and cultures. They have different languages. Although starting
new in a foreign country is not easy for them in the beginning, they usually settle down and fit
into the new country and place of study quite quickly.
C
People have different reasons for studying abroad. Some advanced courses such as nuclear
energy or artificial intelligence might not be available to study locally. Studying overseas
provides opportunities to study such subjects. Moreover, the advanced technology in
developed countries may offer advanced learning facilities to foreign students. Also, students
with foreign degrees are often more in demand in job markets. Employers believe that the
experiences they have from studying abroad makes them desirable employees. Finally, for
some students, studying abroad is like an adventure and it is the easiest way to really learn a
language and have exposure to different traditions and cultures.
D
There are also some drawbacks when a country’s young generation leave their home countries
for study and better job opportunities. Many countries simply end up losing their bright
students. The movement of intelligent young people to developed countries from developing
nations becomes a ‘brain-drain’. Most students who study abroad tend to settle abroad and do
not come back to their countries. However, this is useful for the developed nations as it
provides them with thousands of intelligent and highly trained young professionals. As the
proverb goes, “One man's loss is another man's gain”.
E
Developed countries, in fact, attract thousands of brilliant students from developing nations.
The contributions of these young professionals further increases the economy of the developed
nations. Higher education institutions in such countries take every opportunity to make the
study abroad experience for their international students even better than it was before by being
creative, innovative and technologically advanced in the teaching-learning field.

HOW TO APPLY TO A FOREIGN UNIVERSITY
Studying in a university abroad is an incredible opportunity for receiving excellent education and
experience. Do some research on what the universities can provide you for your degree and career.
First of all, you shouldn’t apply to only one university, but to a few as a backup. Study up on the
application process of those universities. The application process may be very different from one
university to another.
Getting organised is key when applying to universities abroad. All documents such as
recommendation letters, transcripts, and essays must be kept ready at the very beginning of the
process. When applying, write a perfectly-crafted personal statement explaining why you are the
perfect match for the school. On Writing the College Application Essay by Harry Bauld offers
amazing advice on this.
Applying to university abroad is a smooth process if you are well prepared. First, keep all the
documents well-organised for easy access. Then, make a timeline of application deadlines. Next,
submit all documents on time. This is vital.
After sending the applications, prepare for interviews. Interviews are a great way to make an
impression on the interviewers. Show them that you have a good grasp of global affairs and your
future home country’s culture.
Once you receive the acceptance letter, submit the visa application on time. Visa processing can be
a lengthy process. While waiting for the visa, do some research on the country you plan to study in
and study the language spoken there. Having an in-depth knowledge of your new home will help
you adjust faster there.
