Nature- is the world's leading multidisciplinary science journal
History- is the study of the past. Events occurring before the invention of writing systems are
considered prehistory
Ancient- belonging to the very distant past and no longer in existence.
Creative Movement- is a joyful way for children to explore movement through music, develop
physical skills, channel energy, stimulate imagination and promote creativity
Cultural-relating to the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a society
Elements-are the foundational concepts and vocabulary that help students develop movement skills
and understand dance as an artistic practice
Characteristics-that all forms of dance and creative movement have in common: body, action,
space, time and energy
Civilization- varies based on the culture, the reasons are similar: to tell a story or portray an
important message, typically religious
Contemporary Dance- is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of
several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet

Here are some specific benefits of dance…
1. Physical
- develop cardiovascular and muscular endurance
- improves coordination, balance, flexibility, and body composition
- lowers resting heart rate
2. Mental/Emotional
- helps keep the brain sharp
- decrease incidence of dementia
- aids increasing emotional and physical tension
3. Social
- gives sense of togetherness within in a group
- encourage positive social interaction
- contribute to the to the individual potential for self- actualization in society
4.Cultural
- promotes cultural values
Elements of Dance
The human body is living in time and space, and it exhibits some efforts. Thus, all movements occur in time through
space, and with effort.
1. Space- is the best area the performers occupy and where they move
Four Aspects of Space
1. Direction- dance movement can travel in any direction
2. Size- movements can be varied by doing large or smaller actions
3. Level- movements can be done in high, medium, or low level
4. Focus- performers may change their focus by locking at different direction
2. Timing- the movements may be executed in varying tempo
3. Energy- movement can either initiate or stop an actions
4. Shapes- the entire body in space or the configuration of the body shapes

Dancing is a good way to develop cardio vascular and muscular endurance, body composition and as well as
balance and flexibility (Fine ,1981,Keller,2007,childs 2007)
Increased fitness results in a great lowering of the body mass index and resting heart rate (Flores,1995)
Dance is renowned for its contribution to therapy. Dance therapy has used in different medical fields throughout

Dances also gives other psychological health benefits compared to other forms of exercise.(Keller 2007)
Dance based fitness regimens is the increasing need for self-expression and social interactions among men and
