Organizations are dynamic, hierarchically structured entities. This dynamism is reflected in the
occurrence of significant events at all organizational levels. Yet, there is relatively little
discussion of how events gain significance and impact on organizations across space and time.
We address this gap by developing event systems theory, which suggests that events gain
salience when they are novel, disruptive, and significant (reflecting the power of an event). It is
important to note that events can originate at any hierarchical level, and their impact can
remain at that level or propagate up and down throughout the organization, changing or
creating new behaviors, characteristics, and events. MORGESON, F. P., MITCHELL, T. R., & LIU, D.
(2015).
