WILFREDO M.
CRUZ
Regional Director
Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources
Dear Dir. Cruz,
Subject: Request for Training on Tilapia Aqua Farming Using Biofloc Technology for Overseas Filipino
Workers (OFWs) and Their Families
I am writing to respectfully request your support in providing training on tilapia aquaculture using Biofloc
technology for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families in our community. Recognizing BFAR’s
commitment to promoting sustainable aquaculture and providing opportunities to the communities it
serves, we are eager to equip OFWs and their families with practical skills in Biofloc technology to foster
alternative income sources and support economic reintegration.
The innovative Biofloc method has proven to be highly efficient for small-scale aquaculture, as it minimizes
water use and enhances tilapia growth. By training OFWs and their families in this technology, we aim to
enable them to start their own aquaculture enterprises and promote sustainable practices. Given the
growing demand for fish products, this training would not only provide financial opportunities but also help
meet the dietary needs of local communities.
We are hopeful that your office could extend its technical expertise and resources to conduct a
comprehensive training program tailored to beginners. Ideally, the training would cover the principles of
Biofloc technology, site setup, tilapia care and feeding, water quality management, and post-harvest
handling.
We are also asking for your assistance for the essential equipment and materials required for startup phase
of the aquafarming. As part of our initiative to support sustainable aquaculture and community livelihoods,
we aim to ensure that our project has the necessary tools and resources for successful and efficient
operations.
We respectfully request BFAR’s assistance in providing the following items:
Source of Power (Solar Power System): To ensure energy efficiency and sustainability in our
aquafarming operations.
Generator for Backup Power: Essential for maintaining operations during power outages.
Water Quality Testing Kit: To monitor water conditions and ensure a healthy environment for aquatic
life.
PH and Ammonia Testing Kits: Crucial for monitoring water parameters to maintain biofloc balance.
Submersible Pumps: For water circulation and pumping between tanks, ensuring uniform conditions.
Organic Carbon Source (e.g., molasses, rice bran): To support biofloc development by balancing
carbon-to-nitrogen ratios in the water.
Concrete Pond: For use in various stages of aquaculture production, including hatchery and grow-out
phases.
Fingerlings: As initial stock to start the aquafarming operations.
Thank you for considering this request, and we look forward to your positive response. We are committed
to working closely with BFAR to ensure the successful implementation of this program, which holds great
promise for the livelihoods of our OFWs and their families.
Please feel free to contact me at 0956-771-7937 for any additional information.
Respectfully yours,
ALDWIN REYES YUSI
