Term Project

For your final project, you will be creating your own website in WordPress on the topic of your
choice. Your final project in this class is required to be more extensive than the weekly
assignments and should demonstrate what you have learned from these assignments through
creative and technical elements.

• Web Project: Development of a creative, informative web site. All web

projects (meaning all the pages you produce) must reside on your Towson University
WordPress user account. No pages residing on other servers will be accepted.
• Do not delete your home page or recipe page. Create a new webpage with a submenu
to house your term project.
• See here for an example of a completed term project on WordPress.

Term Project Must Include:

• Homepage and at least 4 individual pages (for a total of 5 pages)

• Creativity, Appearance & Customization (3 examples)

Includes site logos, social media integration, font colors, background images and colors,
photo gallery, featured image, widgets, and more.

• Originality & Custom Site Features (3 examples)

This could include an original image, a site logo, image header, original sound clip,
original gif, original video reel, etc. Be creative! The custom features should directly
relate to the content of your website and build upon what you have learned throughout
the semester.

• Technical Elements and Accessibility (3 examples)

This could include external links, embedded videos, sound clips, and numbered or
bulleted lists. Your website should also be accessible to site visitors. Avoid using fonts or
colors that are difficult to read. Consider adding alternative text or image descriptions to
your photos and/or videos.

• Project Menu
The project should be under its own menu item. Since it will consist of more than one
page, it should have a main menu item/page reflecting the title of the project, and all
additional pages should be drop-down menus (sub-menus) to this main menu.

o Below are two methods for editing menus and creating sub-menus:

▪ From the Dashboard, select Appearance / Menus. Notice the tile to the
right named Menu structure. Here, you can click and drag your pages to
where you would like them to appear in your menu. Select Save
Menu when you are finished. Note: In addition to dragging menus to
different positions, we can also create menus to be sub-menus of other
menus by dragging them slightly to the right of another menu item.

▪ You can also directly edit and create menus on your site by selecting Visit
Site from your Dashboard then Customize. Select Menus from the left
sidebar, then select your home menu (or whatever your primary menu is
named) and then select your final project menu to edit. Your pages must
already be created and can be added by selecting Add Items. Add each
page and then click and drag the pages to where you want them located
on your menu. (See pic below for example. I have a final project page
located under my main menu and then three sub-menu pages located
under my final project page.) Publish page to save your menu.
▪ For more information and additional menu help, check out the following
site for an introduction to WordPress drop-down
menus https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-create-a-
dropdown-menu-in-wordpress-beginners-guide/

The project should deliver a coherent message or story. The best projects tend to result from a
choice that relates to interests of the students working on the project.
