Phrasal verbs are phrases made up of a verb combined with one or two small words

(prepositions or adverbs), such as **on**, **off**, **up**, **out**, etc. These small words
change or add to the meaning of the original verb, often creating a completely new meaning.
For examples
- "Turn" means to move or rotate, but "turn off" means to stop something (like a light or a
device).
-"Look"means to see, but "look after" means to take care of someone.
1. Turn off – To stop something from working.
- Example:Please turn off the TV when you leave the room.
2. Look after– To take care of someone or something.
- Example:She has to look after her little brother tonight.
3. Give up – To stop trying or quit.
- *Example:* Don’t give up on your dreams!
4. Run out of – To have no more of something.
- Example: We’ve run out of milk. Can you buy some?
5. Pick up – To lift something or to collect someone.
- *Example 1:Can you pick up that book from the floor?
- Example 2: I’ll pick you up at 6 p.m.
6. Put on – To wear something.
- Example:* Don’t forget to put on your jacket.
7. Take off – To remove something or to leave (like a plane).
- Example 1:Please take off your shoes before entering.
- Example 2:The plane will take off at 8 a.m. 8. Wake up – To stop sleeping.
- Example: I always wake up at 7 a.m.
8. Find out – To discover or learn something new.
- Example: She just found out we have a test tomorrow.
9. Get along – To have a good relationship with someone.
- Example: I get along well with my sister.
10. Come back – To return.
- Example: He promised to come back in an hour.
11. Break down – To stop working (for a machine) or to lose control emotionally.
- Example 1:My car broke down again.
- Example 2:She broke down after hearing the bad news.
12. Hang out – To spend time with someone in a relaxed way.
- Example: We love to hang out with friends on weekends.
13. Call off – To cancel something.
- Example:The meeting was called off because of the rain.
14. Carry on – To continue doing something.
- Example:We decided to carry on with the project despite the difficulties.
15.Throw away – To discard something.
- Example:Don’t throw away those papers; we still need them!
16. Set up – To organize or arrange something.
- Example: We set up a meeting for Friday.
17.Turn on– To start something (like a machine or light).
- Example:Can you turn on the light, please?
- Meaning:Включить.
18. Give away– To donate or give something for free.
- Example: She gave away all her old clothes.
- Meaning:Отдавать бесплатно.
19 Take over – To take control or responsibility.
- Example: Can you take over this task while I’m away?
- Meaning: Перенимать, брать на себя.
20. Break up – To end a relationship.
- Example:They broke up after five years together.
- Meaning: Расстаться.
21. Catch up– To reach the same level as someone else OR to update on news.
- *Example 1:* I need to catch up on my homework.
- *Example 2:* Let’s meet and catch up soon!
- *Meaning:* Нагонять / наверстать / обменяться новостями.
22. Fall apart – To break into pieces OR to lose emotional control.
- Example 1:The chair fell apart when I sat on it.
- Example 2:After the argument, she felt like she was falling apart.
- Meaning: Разваливаться (физически или эмоционально).
23. Put off – To delay or postpone something.
- Example:Don’t put off your homework until the last minute.
- Meaning: Откладывать.
24. Figure out – To understand or solve something.
- Example:I can’t figure out how to fix this issue.
- Meaning: Разобраться.
25. Hold on– To wait or hold something tightly.
- Example 1:Hold on, I’ll be right back.
- Example 2:Hold on to the rope tightly.
- Meaning:*Подождать / держаться.
26. Let down– To disappoint someone.
- Example: I don’t want to let my parents down.
- Meaning:Подводить.

27.Take up – To start doing something new (like a hobby).


- Example:I’ve taken up painting recently.
- Meaning: Заняться чем-то.
28. Bring up– To mention something OR to raise a child.
- Example 1:She brought up an interesting topic during the meeting.
- Example 2:They brought up their children with love.
- Meaning:Упоминать / воспитывать.
29. Move on – To continue or progress after something difficult.
- Example:After the breakup, it was hard to move on.
- Meaning:Двигаться дальше.
30. Back up – To make a copy of data OR to support someone.
- Example 1:Don’t forget to back up your files.
- Example 2: I’ll back you up if you need help.
- Meaning: Создавать резервную копию / поддерживать.
31. Check out– To look at something OR to leave a place (like a hotel).
- Example 1: Check out this cool website!
- Example 2:We need to check out of the hotel by noon.
- Meaning:Проверить / выселиться.
