Introduction

• Transport is the movement of humans, animals and


goods from one location to another. Transportation
moves people and goods from one place to another
using a variety of vehicles across different
infrastructure systems.

• In other words, the action of transport is defined as


particular movement of an organism or thing from
a point A (a place in space) to a point B.
Transportation in daily life
• Finding your way in everyday life, both literally and figuratively, takes some
time. Transportation and moving objects to new locations cannot be
separated. These days, the world is dependent upon these modes of
transports for its everyday business. There are various modes of
transportation that assist men and women in their day to day lives.

• Public transportation
• Bike
• Cycle
• Bts etc..

Types of
transportation
• Rail Transport: Railways were developed
during the period of the industrial
revolution in the 19th century for political
and economic reasons.
• Advantages: The major advantages of
railway transport includes the provision of
reliable services. It also has ability to
convey heavy and bulk goods; it is also very
cheap, safe, and also comfortable for
passengers over a long distance.
• Limitations: Railways are not often
available in remotes part of the country and
it just provides service according to fixed
time schedule & is not flexible for loading
and unloading of goods at any places. Also
in case of accident it involves heavy losses
of life and goods.
• Road Transport: we all know that road transportation exists in all parts of
the world, this involves the use of motor vehicles such as Cars, lorries,
buses, bicycles and trucks.
• Advantages:
• It is relatively cheaper mode of transportation as compared to other
modes.
• It is one of the flexible mode of transportation as loading and unloading is
possible at any destination. It also provides door to door services like
DHL, Amazon, Fedex etc.
• It also helps peoples to travel and carry goods from one place to another
places like hilly areas.

• Limitations:
• Cause of limited carrying capacity road transport is not economical for
long distance transportation of goods
• Transportation of heavy goods in road involves high costs.
• It can take longer time than other mode of transportation.
• Water Transport: water transportation described as the movement of people and goods by boat, ship, barge or sailboat
across ocean, sea, lake, canal or river, or through other modes of water transportation. It is essential method of
transportation.

• Advantages:

• It is relatively economic mode of transport for bulky and heavy goods.

• Safe mode of transportation.

• The oceans are linked with each other and are negotiable with ships of various sizes.

• The costs of maintaining and constructing routes is very low as most of them are naturally made.

• Disadvantages/Limitations:

• It is slow means of transportation.

• It is not suitable for small business.

• It is adversely affected by weather conditions.

• Sea transport requires large investment on ships and their maintenance.


• Air transport: The movement of passengers and cargo by aircraft such as airplanes, hot air balloons, hang
gliders, parachutes or anything else that can sustain flight. These days rocket is the most advanced form of
air transportation.

• Advantages:

• It is the fastest mode of transport.

• It is very useful in transporting goods and passengers.

• It provides helpful support to the local or national security defense.

• Useful for agriculture.

• Disadvantages:

• It is more expensive than other mode of transportation.

• It is affected by weather changes and weather conditions.

• Heave and bulky goods cannot be transported.

• Not suitable for short distance travel. (Within 5-10km).

• Heavy losses of life, property and goods in the case of accident.

its activities and meanwhile, a successful
logistics system could help in every sectors.
