Texte : A WISE KING
Once. Two women, after having given birth to two girl baby children. Began to live in a same
room as usually done in a hospital. Each of them took care of her small child until the third night.
During that night, one of the babies died because her mother slept on her. when the mother
noticed her crime, she stood up silently holding the little baby’s corpse. She came up to her room
mate’s bed and exchanged her dead baby by the other’s living one.
When morning broke out, the neighbor noticed that the dead baby she had in her bed
wasn’t hers but that of her room mate. So they began to discuss without finding any compromises.
Thus they were called to appear defore the King.
The King then retorted : ‘’Each of you said’’ the living baby belongs to me and the dead is my
room mate’s one. What then can we do with the living child?
He asked a knight to bring him a big knife in order to share the living baby. But the first
woman went on her kness, in front of the King sobbing and said ‘’I beg you to let the living baby to
my room mate. It’s no use killing her’’
But the second woman retorted: ‘’The baby will neither belong to you nor to me. We have to
share her into two equal parts’’.
Finally, King Salomon said: ‘’Give the baby to the first woman she’s hers’’. Whom according
you, did the living baby belong to?
