Technology has advanced rapidly in recent years, affecting both humans and corporations.
With the advancement of technology, the majority of modern businesses have been greatly
impacted, as computers have become a vital role in regulating, directing, and maximizing
results, allowing machines to take over many human duties that were previously performed
manually (usman, 2014). Technology is functioning as a significant catalyst for eliminating
and eradicating new problems in our society, as well as automating numerous areas such as
education, medical, businesses, government, and housing (usman, 2014).
Converting the manual procedure of booking hostel rooms at universities and colleges to an
online method is crucial. This is especially important for students who must travel long
distances and may find it stressful.
Skyline University Hostel Management System is a proposed system that will be design and
implement to help and provide a convenient way for students to book their hostel rooms
online.
1.2 Problem Statements
The number of students enrolling in higher education institutions around the world is
increasing, posing several accommodation challenges for both students and school
administrators. Skyline University's hostel allocation and management mechanism is entirely
manual. The total number of rooms needed to accommodate the expanding number of pupils.
Most of the time, the hostel booking procedure takes a long time and involves a lot of effort,
retrieving student information is cumbersome, and records are not secure due to manual
storage utilizing hardcover notes. Hostel administrators cannot provide precise information
about the students in a given room. These and many other factors contribute to the problem
statement that prompted this investigation.
1.3 Aim and Objectives
The aim of this work is to design and implementation of a hostel management software
(web-base) that will take control and manage the hostel activities of Skyline University.
a. Identify and model the requirements specification to develop the system.
b. Design and develop a central database system that would serve as hostel database,
which will contain all the records related to Hostel.
c. Provide online student application for students to apply for hostel.
1.4 Scope of the Research
The scope of this research work is centered on the development of hostel management
system for Skyline University.
1.5 Limitation of the Research
Some of the limitations of the proposed system are:
a. The system cannot handle online payment of student’s accommodation fee and
maintenance fee.
b. The system cannot handle other hostel issues such as mess activities.

comfortable when staying in the hostel (Jayant Yadav, 2016). The number of students and
educational institutions worldwide has increased in recent years. This development has
resulted in a strong demand for data management on student hostel accommodations, and the
Web-based Student Hostel Management System cannot be overlooked (Mutuzana, 2020).
Many colleges use a parochial system for hostel registration, which requires students to visit
the Students' Affairs Office and fill out a registration form. This form tries to obtain
information about the student. Following that, students will register for the new session by
showing a bank teller receipt proving payment was paid, and a new hostel will be assigned to
the student. The hostel facility management software is a user-friendly application package
that has been specifically built to automate, coordinate, and oversee all aspects of hostel

1.3 REALATED WORKS
Misheck Mutuzana (2020) designed an online Web based Student Hostel Management
application which is created through the use of PHP computer programming language and
MySQL database application to both the students and the staff in charge of the registration
and hostel management processes. A Study design was adopted to collect data using the
observation, semi-structured interview guide, questionnaires and document analysis
techniques. The findings revealed that Mufulira College of Education uses the manual system
in allocating hostels to students and there is too much paper work to be filled in by students
and staff. The identification of the drawbacks of the existing manual system led to the
designing and implementation of a web-based student Hostel management system for MUCE
using a Model View Controller Framework.
O. Shoewu, S.A. Braimah, & O. Duduyemi (2016) designed a hostel management system
(HOMASY) to provide a computerized process that is stress free, reliable and quick through
the use of PHP computer programming language and MySQL database application to both
the students and the staff in charge of the registration and hostel management processes. The
usual practice of filing and procedures involved in students’ registration and hostel
accommodation in Lagos State University and other university was appraised for efficiency,
economics and time management. The existing procedure was formed to be manually carried
out. This is associated with inadequacies as more personnel are often required and a lot of
times are wasted while the semester is on with lectures and other activities.
Ayaka Akolo Emmanuel (2015) provide a research work deals with the problems of
managing and allocating hostels to students in College of Agriculture Lafia and to avoid the
problems which occur when carried out manually. The aim of this research work “Online
Hostel Management System” is to develop a web-based system with a central database that
will automatically allocate rooms to students, manage records related to the hostel, the system
designed will keep track of all the available hostel rooms, their occupants and fund generated

drawbacks of the existing system leads to the designing of computerized system that will be
compatible to the existing system with the system which is more user friendly and more GUI
oriented. We can improve the efficiency of the system, thus overcome the drawbacks of the
existing system.
