Exam Content

Standard Details
Tutorial/Survey • Optional 10-minute tutorial.
• Optional 2-minute survey.

Exam Description The 510, 510i, 570, 570i, 653, 653i exams are delivered in 2 sections, with a 45-minute break in between.
• Section 1 is 2 hours and 45 minutes.
• Section 2 is 3 hours and 45 minutes.
• During section 2, candidates will have access to electronic reference materials via the Exhibit and/or Reference button
in the exam. If there are any problems, see “Table API-10. Troubleshooting Issues with Electronic Reference Materials
and Exhibits.”
• No outside reference materials are permitted.

Language Translation:
The exams where the acronym ends in i are available with translation. The introduction, navigation, and tutorial will be in
English only. Once the candidate advances to the exam section, the question and answers will appear in both English and
the requested translation.
• The candidate must select the translation with API, and if a candidate needs to confirm or change their language
selection, they must contact API.
• Candidates testing with a translation must test outside of the USA. As a result, we established a separate exam code for
translation exams. (e.g. 510 and 510i.) Example: 510 can be scheduled globally but 510i can only be scheduled outside of
the USA.
Review Allowed at any time during the section. Candidates taking a 2-section exam will not be permitted to review responses
from section 1 after the section ends.
The candidate may review all items in sequence or those marked for review.
Pressing END ends the review and no further review is allowed.

Table API-10. Candidate Reports That There are Pages or Sections Missing From the Reference Materials (510, 570 and 653 Exams Only).

Problem Solution

Candidate Reports 1. Inform the candidate that only portions of the reference material relevant to the exam are included when testing. API
That There Are Pages expects that API candidates will be aware of the Effectivity Sheet (portions of documents that will be available to them)
or Sections Missing in advance of testing. It is NOT a technical issue that some portions of some reference materials are unavailable to the

Materials (510, 570 2. The removed portions are mentioned in the reference material’s table of contents, but do NOT appear in the document
and 653 Exams Only) or the bookmark. This is expected and does NOT indicate a technical issue.
3. File a CPR, be specific! Note what Reference, and what section is missing. Example: “In Document API 571, the
candidate reported that section 4.3.4 was missing.”
4. Listed below are the portions of references which are included in the 510, 570 and 653 exams. Please note that these
are different for each of the 3 exams.
