WORK INSTRUCTION
FOR
DISTRIBUTED CONTROL SYSTEM CONFIGURATION
1 OBJECTIVE
To provide guidelines for executing DCS Configuration jobs awarded directly to IACS
department.
2 SCOPE
This work instruction shall apply to I/C Projects & Training and any other person
involved with DCS Configuration jobs awarded directly to IACS.

4 PROCEDURE
4.1 Whenever a job for DCS Configuration is awarded to IACS, the details of the
contract shall be reviewed by I/C Projects & Training, in consultation with Head
IACS.
4.2 I/C Projects & Training shall be responsible for collecting process data
including I/O details, broken P&ID’s for graphics, process description, and
parameters for implementation during configuration.

4.3 Process data and I/O details shall be collected from the client on the following
standard forms available in IACS :
Analog Inputs Data IACS/4-601-01
Analog Outputs Data IACS/4-601-02
Digital Inputs Data IACS/4-601-03
Digital Outputs Data IACS/4-601-04
Loop Description IACS/4-601-05
4.4 I/C Projects & Training shall prepare a schedule for execution of the project,
and assign a team of engineers for working on the DCS configuration job.
4.5 ABB Automation proprietary configuration software is the media for carrying out
DCS engineering, using EWS (PC loaded with ABB Automation Configuration
Software).
4.6 The assigned team shall work under the supervision of I/C Projects & Training
and discuss day to day problems with him.
4.7 I/C Projects & Training shall be responsible for weekly or monthly progress
monitoring of the configuration work.
4.8 After completion, the configured software shall be tested, bugs removed and
required changes (if any) carried out.
4.9 The configured software shall then be downloaded on the DCS, before FAT
and delivery of the DCS.
