PASSAGE NARRATION [ASHEK SARKER, Lecturer, Dept Of English, CGC(01726421912)]

*01. প্রথমে সেগ্র Narration পমে পুমিোপুরি ঄থথ অয়ত্ব কিমে হমে। Passage –এি Speaker েো েক্তো এেংPerson spoken to েো শ্রোেো রির্থয় কিমে
হমে।Reported Speech গুম ো কী ধিমিিSentence েো রির্থ য় কিমে হমে।
*Direct : Sadia said to Faria, “Do you like this pen?” “I don’t like it,” Faria said
*Indirect: Sadia asked Faria if she (F) liked the pen. Faria replied that she didn’t like it.
02. Direct Narration এ Reporting Verb এি Subject এি ঄েস্থোি Sentence এি শ্েমে থোকম Indirect Narration এ েো Sentence এি প্রথমে
েমস।
Direct : “Will you buy my hair?” asked Della. Indirect: Della asked him if he would buy her hair.
03. Reporting verb ও েোি Subject এেং object উমেখ িো থোকম Subject রহসোমে The speaker এেং object রহসোমে the person spoken to/
the listener র মখ Indirect speech এ পরিেেথি কিমে হয়। শ্েেিঃ
Direct : “Give me the pen.” Indirect: The speaker told the person spoken to to give him the pen.
04. েরি একটি Passage এ পিপি একোরধক Assertive Sentence থোমক এেং একআ েক্তোি েক্তেয শ্পে কিো হয়, েমে পিেেী Sentence টিমক and /
added that / also added that / also said that / again said that / further said that / further added that আেযোরি দ্বোিো পিেেী Sentence
টিমক েুক্ত কিো েোয় েো রদ্বেীয় Sentence টিমক অ োিোভোমে উমেখ কিো েোয়।

05. Reported speech- টি Assertive Sentence হওয়ো সমেও েরি েোি শ্েমে প্রশ্নমেোধক রিহ্ন থোমক এেং শ্কোি রকছু জোিমে িোওয়ো হয়, েমে েো
Interrogative sentence এি রিয়েোিুসোমি Indirect speech এ পরির্ে কিমে হমে।
• অর্ থাৎ Reported Speech এ Assertive এর পর ? Indirect Speech এ reporting verb এর পূর্ব থ being
surprised বর্ে । (Interrogative এর য়র্ে হয়).
• Example: She said to me, “You have felt how she passed her day?”
• Ans. Being surprised, she asked me if I had felt how she had passed her day.
06. Interrogative Sentence এ শ্কোি প্রমশ্নি উত্তি েরি “Yes” হয় েোহম িুআ পদ্ধরেমে েোমক Indirect Narration কিো েোমে:
01. Subject + replied in the affirmative-----
02. Subject + do / does / did / am / is / are / was / were / have / has / had----
Runa said to me, “Have you finished the work?” I said, “Yes”.
Runa asked me if I had finished the work. I replied in the affirmative.
OR- Runa asked me if I had finished the work. I said that I had
07. Interrogative Sentence এ শ্কোি প্রমশ্নি উত্তি েরি “NO” হয় েোহম িুআ পদ্ধরেমে েোমক Indirect Narration কিো েোমেঃ
1. Subject + replied in the negative-----
2. 02. Subject + don’t / doesn’t / didn’t / aren't / isn’t / aren’t / wasn’t / weren’t / haven’t / hasn’t / hadn’t----
Direct: Runa said to me, “Have you finished the work?” I said, “No”
Indirect: Runa asked me if I had finished the work. I replied in the negative./ Runa asked me if I had finished the work. I said that
I hadn’t
08. Interrogative Sentence এ শ্কোি প্রমশ্নি উত্তি েরি “Yes” েো “No” হয় এেং েোি পি েরি শ্কোি েক্তেয থোমক েোহম Indirect Speech এ এমিি
পরিেমেথ েথোক্রমেReplied in the affirmative and said that / replied in the negative and said that েমস
Structure: Subject + replied in the affirmative and said that--- / replied in the negative and said that---শ্েেিঃ
Habib said to Mahmud, “ Have you written your application?” “Yes, I will submit it tomorrow.
Habib asked Mahmud if he (M) had written his application. Mahmud replied in the affirmative and said that he would submit it
the next day.
09. Interrogative Sentence এি উত্তি Direct Speech –এ সংরিপ্ত হম ও Indirect Speech –এ েো পূর্থ Sentence –এ র খমে হয়। শ্েেিঃ
He said to me, “What are you doing?” I said, “Nothing.”
He asked me what I was doing. I replied that I was doing nothing.
10. একোরধক Interrogative sentence এ েরি একআ েক্তো েো speaker থোমক, েমে পিেেী Sentence গুম ো again asked/ also asked / further
asked দ্বোিো েুক্ত কিো হয়।
Direct :The man said to the boy, “Why do you disturb me? Have you done your home work?”
Indirect: The man asked the boy why he (boy) disturbed him. He (the man) again asked the boy if he had done his home work.
11. একোরধকImperative sentence এ েরি একআ েক্তো েো speaker থোমক, েমে পিেেী Sentence গুম ো and দ্বোিো েুক্ত কিো হয়।
Direct :The teacher said to the boy, “ Please don’t disturb me. Go out of the room.”
Indirect: The teacher told the boy not to disturb him and ordered him to go out of the room.
12. Direct Speech এ speaker েো েক্তো েরি একআ সমে Interrogative এেং Assertive এি েোধযমে েক্তেয শ্পে কমি থোমক, শ্সমিমে Sentence টি and
দ্বোিো েুক্ত হয় েো Sentence এি শুরুমে then েমস।
Direct : The teacher said to Kamal, “Why are you talking in the class? You should behave yourself.
Indirect: The teacher asked Kamal why he was talking in the class and said that he should behave himself.
OR- The teacher asked Kamal why he was talking in the class then he said that he should behave himself.
