Foundation pieced flying geese–style blocks give the impression of a green forest.
Have fun!

General information
The quilt consists of 100 blocks.
Fabric quantities are based on 100% cotton fabric 44”-45” wide from selvedge to selvedge.

Seam allowances are ¼” unless noted otherwise.

Seam allowances are NOT included in the foundation piecing diagrams.


Finished quilt: 60”x 60”
Finished block: 6” x 6”

Gather your Materials


3 different green solids, 2 yards each
1 red solid, ½ yard
6 yards solid white fabric (background)
½ yard binding fabric
3 ½ yards backing fabric
63” x 63” batting

Block 1 — Goose Bumps

Trace the diagram onto foundation paper and piece using your favorite method and following the number se-
quence in the diagram.
Trim, remembering to add ¼” seam allowance.
Make 6 blocks, using different combinations of solid green fabric.

Block 2 — Friendly Flock

Trace the diagram onto foundation paper and piece using your favorite method and following the number se-
quence in the diagram.
Trim, remembering to add ¼” seam allowance.
Make 27 blocks, using different combinations of solid green fabric. Make three of the blocks with one red and
two green triangles.

Block 3 — Triple Tree

Trace the diagram onto foundation paper and piece using your favorite method and following the number se-
quence in the diagram.
Trim, remembering to add ¼” seam allowance.
Make 10 blocks, using different combinations of solid green fabric. Make one block with one red triangle and two
green triangles.

Block 4 — In Formation

Trace the diagram onto foundation paper, and cut on the (red) cutting line.
Piece the two block sections using your favorite method and following the number sequence in the diagram. Re-
member to leave a seam allowance all around.
Sew the sections together on the cutting/seam line and press.
Make 13 blocks, using different combinations of solid green fabric. Add two red triangles to two of the blocks.

Block 5 — Saplings

Trace the diagram onto foundation paper, and cut on the (red) cutting line.
Piece the two block sections using your favorite method and following the number sequence in the diagram. Re-
member to leave a seam allowance all around.
Sew the sections together on the cutting/seam line and press.
Make 28 blocks, using different combinations of solid green fabric. Make five of the blocks with two red triangles.

Block 6 — Loosey Goosey

Trace the diagram onto foundation paper and piece using your favorite method and following the number se-
quence in the diagram.
Trim, remembering to add ¼” seam allowance.
Make 6 blocks using the pattern as is and 10 blocks mirroring the pattern, using different combinations of solid
green fabric.
In one block, replace 2 of the triangles with red and in another replace 1 of the triangles with red.

Assemble the quilt top
When you have completed all 100 blocks, it’s time to assemble the quilt top!
Use the block layout diagram below to determine the position of your blocks in the quilt. The numbers in the dia-
gram correspond to the block numbers.
Ensure that the blocks containing red triangles are positioned relatively evenly across the quilt top.
The completed quilt is 60”x60” (10 blocks by 10 blocks).

Complete the Quilt
Cut and piece the backing fabric to be about 3” wider than the quilt top on each side. Press seam allowances
open.

Layer the quilt top, batting and backing. Baste.


Quilt as desired
Bind.
