CHAPTER I: NEED ANALYSIS

1. Context.
English for Business courses are courses specifically designed to help learners
improve their English skills in a work environment. These courses typically focus
on the skills needed to communicate effectively at work, including:
- Business English: Learn common communication situations in a company,
such as meetings, email exchanges, presentations, and negotiations.
- Email and report writing skills: Provide knowledge and practice on how to
write professional emails, work reports, and related documents.
- Business English: Courses may focus on English for a specific industry,
such as English for finance, marketing, human resources, engineering, or
project management.
- Presentation and negotiation skills: Help learners practice their ability to
present, discuss, and negotiate in English.
- Pronunciation and grammar: Ensure learners can pronounce correctly
and use correct grammar in work situations.
- This course is suitable for working people who want to improve their
English communication skills to develop their career, increase work
efficiency, or prepare for international career opportunities.
2. Background
Learners can related to immediate personal relevance, such as basic
information about themselves, their family, shopping, and local geography. The
course will build on this foundation by helping learners expand their lexicon,
especially in contexts they are likely to encounter in real-life situations.
Enhanced vocabulary skills will enable students to describe situations, ask and
answer simple questions, and understand the main ideas of short texts. As
businesses expand internationally and operate in multicultural environments,
mastering business English has become essential for success in the global
marketplace. These courses provide the necessary tools for individuals to
communicate effectively, build relationships, and succeed in their professional
careers.

3. Data collection instruments

3.1. Questionnaires:
To identify the specific vocabulary needs of learners, questionnaires were
employed. This method was chosen for its simplicity, scalability, and efficiency
in collecting data from a large number of participants. The questionnaire covered
various topics, including learners’ vocabulary challenges, communication goals,
preferred learning styles, and attitudes toward English language learning. While
questionnaires offer valuable initial insights, they may sometimes lack depth,
necessitating follow-up research to gain a comprehensive understanding of
learners' needs.
