1. Could artificial intelligence help us to achieve world peace?
AI is a very helpful tool as discussed in the previous essays. It plays an important
role in many lives. Our daily lives are surrounded by these technologies, from the
personalized recommendations we receive from Netflix and Spotify to the manufacturing
processes of thousands of products. Nevertheless, its operationalization for lethal and
hazardous objectives is also becoming more common. So, how effective is it in achieving
world peace?
The UN's use of AI in peace negotiations in war areas, made possible by alliances
with AI firms like Remesh, is one instance of how AI is being used to promote peace. The
UN can hold "large-scale digital dialogues" with populations in crisis zones thanks to AI
systems' ability to sort through thousands of data points in dozens of languages. After
respondents are questioned, "answers with similar meanings are clustered using an
algorithm" based on their responses. The AI system determines the respondents' top
priorities as well as the places where groups may be able to come together (Pandit,
2022a).
AI has more uses than only discourse when it comes to promoting peace and
development. Researchers from Swedish institutions have now released studies on the
potential contribution of artificial intelligence (AI) to the UN Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs). The study discovered that 134 of the 169 targets included in the 17 SDGs
may be more easily achieved with the application of AI technology (Pandit, 2022b).
Additionally, studies are being conducted to investigate the possibility of using artificial
intelligence solutions as a predictive tool for mass atrocities, war crimes, and political
instability. The study proposes that early warning indications of mass violence could be
                                                                                          1
discovered and targeted interventions should be sought by analyzing online patterns of
hate speech, disinformation, and propaganda. AI may also be used to detect the usage
of prohibited weapons and ammunition in online combat videos, among other comparable
applications. This has the potential to be a very helpful tool in assisting cultures in making
the transition from a bad to a good state of peace (Pandit, 2022c).
2. Is AI used for political propaganda?
AI is being used by governments and political actors worldwide, in both
democracies and autocracies, to produce texts, photos, and videos that are automatically
censored online and that manipulate public opinion to their advantage (Tate, 2023a).
Political actors continue to use generative AI techniques to spread misinformation as they
get more advanced. According to Tate, AI is being used, particularly by authoritarian
countries, to increase the effectiveness and reach of censorship. Researchers from
Freedom House compiled a list of 22 nations that have enacted legislation mandating or
rewarding internet companies to using machine learning to filter offensive content off the
internet. For instance, chatbots in China aren't supposed to respond to inquiries regarding
Tiananmen Square. Additionally, in India, officials in the government of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi directed YouTube and Twitter to impose access restrictions on a
documentary concerning violence that occurred during Modi's time as Gujarat's chief
minister. This move has prompted tech companies to employ artificial intelligence (AI) to
filter content (Tate, 2023b).
                                                                                            2
3. How can you prepare for the era of AI?
Artificial Intelligence is already taking over a lot of various facets of life; we just
aren't aware of it. From technological gadgets to difficult jobs that AI can replace, AI is
already pervasive in our daily routines. AI has also been discussed as a potential
replacement for people in the workplace. How can we get ready for this AI era? According
to LRED from Leadership Review, this is how we can prepare for AI:
       1. Adopt a policy that emphasizes unity. A lot of people are afraid that an AI
workforce that automates labor that was previously done by humans will render
their occupations obsolete. However, based on their examination of current labor
studies, the authors envision a future in which people collaborate with AI, utilizing
their inherent abilities in creativity, social and emotional intelligence, and
sophisticated reasoning. According to their theory, an active collaboration between
humans and machines has the greatest potential for benefit. That should be your
       guiding idea (LRED, 2019a).
       2. Evaluate your abilities and tasks. The first step in preparing your company to
collaborate effectively with AI is to discover new methods of operation. What
professional talents do you possess? Where do people best fit into positions that
have been reimagined? For what additional tasks, what training will they require?
It can be necessary for you to refocus on the behavioral traits of your staff, like
their ability to solve problems and communicate clearly (LRED, 2019b).
       3. Promote learning throughout life. AI will continue to evolve, as will human
interaction with it, therefore it's critical that you and your staff are ready for constant
                                                                                                3
change. Establishing a solid foundation of common values and a prosperous future
is a wise move. Provide employees the choice to pursue new interests that AI
opens up for them in addition to continuing to hone their abilities in areas where
they are passionate, and purpose driven (LRED, 2019c).
                                                                                4
