over the Indian airspace. However, the Government of India on November 4 amended the rules and said that in-flight
passengers will be able to use internet services through WiFi only when electronic devices are permitted to be used in the
aircraft even after it attains an altitude of 3,000 metres in the Indian airspace. The satellite has a lifespan of 14 years.

99. Climate change under a high-end emissions scenario could lead to a 16.9% loss in GDP by 2070 across
the Asia and Pacific region, with India projected to suffer a 24.7% GDP loss, according to the 1st edition of
Asian Development Bank (ADB)’s report titled “Asia-Pacific Climate Report 2024: Catalyzing Finance and
Policy Solutions”. Most of the region would face more than 20% loss. Among the assessed countries and
subregions, these losses are concentrated in Bangladesh (30.5%), Vietnam (30.2%), Indonesia (26.8%),
India (24.7%), the rest of Southeast Asia’ (23.4%), higher-income Southeast Asia (22%), Pakistan (21.1%),
the Pacific (18.6%), and the Philippines (18.1%). Rising sea levels and decreasing labour productivity would drive the most
significant losses. Asia has accounted for most of the increase in global GHG emissions since 2000. Consequently, the region’s
share of global emissions rose from 29.4% in 2000 to 45.9% in 2021. Emissions from developing Asia continue to rise, driven
primarily by China, which contributed about 30% of global emissions in 2021. For climate change adaptation, regional
countries require annual investment between $102 billion and $431 billion. {Read more}

This loss was 45% higher than the goal set by over 140 countries to eliminate deforestation by 2030. The goal is to eliminate
deforestation and forest degradation, and restore 30% of degraded forest area by 2030. The report indicated serious
problems in global efforts to stop deforestation and forest damage. Primary tropical forests, essential for storing carbon and
protecting biodiversity, lost 3.7 million hectares in 2023. The report also emphasizes the loss of Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs),

on a list of 63 countries assessed for efforts to fight climate change, as per the “Climate
Change Performance Index (CCPI 2025)” report, released at the annual UN Climate
Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan. The report leaves the first three places empty,
as no country performed well enough across all index categories to achieve an overall
‘very high’ rating. Denmark ranks at the top (but technically 4th place), followed by the
Netherlands (5th), UK (6th), Philippines (7th), Morocco (8th), & Norway (9th). While the
largest two emitters - China and the US - remain very low at 55th and 57th place,
respectively. India and the U.K. are the only two G20 countries among the high
performers in the CCPI. The 4 lowest-ranked countries in the CCPI are Iran (67th), Saudi Arabia (66th), UAE (65th), and Russia
(64th). The CCPI 2025, published by think tanks Germanwatch, NewClimate Institute, and Climate Action Network -
International (CAN), tracks the progress of the world’s largest emitters in terms of emissions, renewables, and climate policy.
The 63 countries, along with the European Union, assessed in the CCPI are responsible for 90% of global emissions. India’s
per capita emissions stand at 2.9 tons of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e), far below the global average of 6.6 tCO2e. India, the
world’s 3rd-largest greenhouse gas emitter and the fastest growing major economy, has pledged to reach Net Zero Emissions
by 2070 and aims to achieve 500 GW of Renewable Energy capacity by 2030. {Read more}

the ‘World’s Top 100 Worst Polluted Cities’, far ahead of its rival, China. A recent S&P Global

comparison, China has 30 cities on the list. Neighbouring Pakistan ranks 3rd with 7 cities,
followed by Bangladesh with 5 and Nepal with 2. Alarmingly, more than half (53) of the top 100
most polluted cities in the world are in the Indian subcontinent. The S&P study was part of a presentation highlighting the need
for India to shift towards vehicle electrification. It also called attention to concerns about growing traffic congestion in major
Indian cities. Mumbai tops the list with 430 vehicles per kilometer (km), followed by Kolkata at 308, Pune at 248, and Delhi
comparatively better at 93 vehicles per km. In 2023, IQAir, an international monitoring agency, ranked Delhi as the most
