GRADE – VI

faint weak
announce make a formal public statement about a fact, occurrence, or intention
Amazed greatly surprised; astonished

Answer the following:

1. Explain the reason for the separation of the two baby birds.
ANS: There was a big storm, and the wind blew down many trees, including the tall tree in which the
birds lived. A big, heavy branch hit the nest and killed the mother bird. The strong wind then blew the
baby birds away to the other side of the forest, causing them to land in different places.

2. Describe the king's encounter with the two birds in the lesson.
ANS: The king lost his way while chasing a deer in the forest and encountered a brown bird that called
robbers to steal his jewels. Frightened, he started running and reached an ashram where a different
brown bird welcomed him, offered water, and invited him to rest. The king was amazed that both the
birds looked alike. The bird that welcomed him explained that the first bird was his brother, who lived
with the robbers.

3. Justify the title "A Tale of Two Birds" by explaining how the birds' lives were different.
Ans. The title "A Tale of Two Birds" is appropriate because it emphasizes the distinct lives of the two
birds. Each bird demonstrates how its environment and choices shape its behaviour. This illustrates
that the birds' actions were significantly affected by their surroundings.

Reference to Context:
I. “Quick! Hurry up! There’s someone under the tree. Come and take his jewels and his horse. Hurry or
else he’ll slip away. The king was amazed.”

a. The above lines were spoken by the big brown bird, and it was addressing the gang of
robbers.

b. Why was the king amazed on hearing this?

i. He wondered who would dare to rob the king.
ii. The King was not wearing any jewels.
iii. He was trying to hide under the tree.
iv. He did not expect anyone so deep inside the forest.

c. Give the meaning of the phrase ‘slip away’ with reference to the above extract.
ANS: In this context, "slip away" means to escape or leave quietly.
