Operation Safety

Avoid dust, humidity and temperature extremes. Do not place the


product in any area where it may become wet.
Place the unit in a horizontal position and do not place anything

1. Introduction

1.1. General functionality


The P56x series is an Audio Encoder/Decoder/Codec for up to 8 stereo channels
(encoder channels, decoder channels or mixed). It is delivered in a 19'' 1U housing.
The connection depends on the configuration of the ordered device.

2. First Start

2.1. Before Start


Check if scope of delivery (see section Scope of Delivery)) is complete with help of
the included packing list.

Installation in rack

When installing the P56x Series in a rack or another assembly you


should make sure that the housing has the necessary air exchange
and if one P56x Series mounted on top of the other you should have
a cooling system that produces an air current to prevent heat
accumulation.
Avoid dust, humidity, and temperature extremes. Do not place the
product in any area where it may become wet.

2.3. Installation for P56x models


Mount the rack-mount

• Decoder: up to 4 analog outputs or up to 8 digital AES/EBU outputs or mixed
• Codec: up to 2 analog inputs or 4 digital AES/EBU inputs or mixed and up to 2
analog outputs or 4 digital AES/EBU outputs or mixed
Depending on the way the unit was ordered, the analog connectors have to be
connected to the correct LEFT and RIGHT inputs.

2. Ethernet ports
• ETHERNET 10/100 CTRL
Please connect the network to the LAN interface connector ETHERNET 10/100
CTRL, for the controlling of the device.
• ETHERNET 10/100 DATA (Models without ISDN operation only)
Then connect the data network to the LAN interface connector ETHERNET 10/100
DATA, for the transport stream output over IP.
3. ASI connectors
ASI 1 or ASI 2
Please connect the ASI cable to ASI 1 or ASI 2 for transport stream output.
4. ISDN (Advanced ISDN models only)
Please connect the rightmost Audio connector to the ISDN connector.
5. GPIO
Please connect the GPIO Connector to the control device.
6. ANCILLARY DATA
Output signal e.g. RDS
7. Option 1 ( future option )

9. A/C power
There are two possible device variants:
a) One A/C power connector and switch.
Plug in the A/C power connector and switch on the unit.
b) Two A/C power connectors for redundant unit.

2.4. LEDs

Status LEDs

1. Power
The unit has AC power.
2. RUN
The unit has successfully completed its boot cycle and is running.
3. STATUS 1
The unit is running and streaming data.
4. STATUS 2
STATUS 2 lights up if a valid AES signal has been detected at the digital audio input
otherwise no AES signal (LED off) has been detected at the digital audio input and
the unit has switched to the analog input connectors. The AES-signal
signal state is
updated approximately every 500msec.
5. ERROR
An error has occurred and the P56x has stopped processing.

2.5. Front panel keyboard


With the front panel keyboard you can configure and display the status of the P56x.

Buttons
Generally there are three kinds of buttons:
• Cursor buttons
• ESC button
• ENTER button

1. Cursor buttons
The cursor buttons enable all navigations through the menus and switch between
different screens.
2. ESC button
The ESC button always leads to the next exit. Pressing ESC several times
eventually leads back to the status screen.
3. ENTER button (top right)
This button leads into a menu to make
make modifications and confirms any changes
made, by pressing it on the “save” field.

2.6. Front Panel Display


After switching-on
on the unit, the Qbit logo appears for a short time before the status
screen is shown on the display.

After the boot process, the unit is running the last saved configuration. In case the
unit is powered up the first time, it is running the factory configuration. You need to
set up the IP address for configuration. See section 4.1 Network address
configuration at the unit and 4.2 Network configuration using the Web Interface.
Interface

Pressing the ENTER button leads you to the Main screen. In this screen the user
can select the following options:

In the Main menu area the navigation is possible with the  and  cursor buttons
and the system settings can be configured by selecting the highlighted option.
Pressing the ENTER button on the highlighted option leads you to the menu DATA or
CTRL for editing the system settings. Navigating through the screen and inside the
address fields is done by using the  or  and  or  cursor buttons. ENTER leads
into one of the address fields and back, ESC always leads to the next exit and

discards any changes made. Pressing ESC several times eventually leads back to
the status screen. To confirm any changes made, the ENTER button has to be
pressed on the “save” field.

There are two channel level meter screens to check the activity of the used audio
channels.

Escape to the channel screen can be done by pressing the  or  button.


Pressing the  or  button several times changes between status screen,
channel level meter screen, horizontal or vertical.

There are two diagrams, one for each channel as a horizontal-bar


horizontal chart, and an

overview of all implemented audio channels as a vertical-bar

If you have more than one implemented

2.7. Default IP settings


By default the unit has got the following IP settings:
Address: 192.168.093.151
Netmask: 255.255.255.000
Gateway: 000.000.000.000

3. On System HTTP/Web
HTTP/Web-server

It is not recommended to use the web interface for the configuration of the
unit´s IP addresses. If you forget the actual IP address, the device may
become unreachable via IP.

The P56x provides an integrated web-server,


web server, so you can access them as soon as
the unit is reachable via IP. Refer to section 4.1 Network address configuration at the
unit for information how to set the IP address via front panel display.
Open your web browser and type in the IP address of the unit to be changed. The
P56x homepage and a pop-up
up window appears which asks for the required
authentication.
Type the user name and password in and confirm with the OK button.

Shut down the browser to log off the P56x web-server.

3.1. Navigation menu


The navigation menu supports the following:
• Display the system status
• Configuration of the network and P56x
• Upload of a new firmware version
• Restart of the system after new configuration or firmware upload

Menu items are:


• Home
• Status
• Configuration
• Firmware Upload
• Restart

After a few seconds of inactivity, the P56x homepage leads you always to the
Status menu screen. This menu gives you an overview of the general system status
according to the model.

The link Status opens a menu bar with the options:

3.2.1. Codec
Here the current encoding/decoding parameters are displayed.

Displays the Hostname and the IP addresses of the CTRL and DATA interface.
For ISDN models only the IP address of the CTRL interface will be displayed.

3.2.3. Revisions
Displays the revision number of the firmware and integrated modules.

3.2.4. System Health


Displays the temperature of the main board and system voltages.

3.3. Configuration menu


The link Configuration opens a menu bar with the options:

After setting a new configuration, you have to restart the system.

3.3.3. ISDN (ISDN models only)


The ISDN menu supports the following:
• configuration of the ISDN interface.
• displays the ISDN status

3.3.3.1. ISDN Settings


a) Local Phone No. #1
Allows you to set the ISDN number for the P56x.
b) Origination Phone No.
Allows you to define the ISDN number for incoming calls. If set the P56x compares
this number with the incoming telephone call.
c) Destination Phone No.
Allows you to set the ISDN number of the connection partner.
d) Channel Bundling
Here the mode channel bundling can be set. In this case the two B-Channels will be
combined to a transfer rate of 128kBits/s.
This setting has to be equal for both, Encoder and Decoder. In this mode the P56x
uses the synchronization mode 'MusicTaxi'.
e) Bitrate
Displays the bitrate depending on the configuration with channel bundling
(128kBits/s) or without channel bundling (64kBits/s).
f) Cyclic Connection Test
Checks the telephone connection periodically as defined in Phone No. and Call
Interval [h].
Call Interval configuration options:[1][2]...[48]

3.3.3.2. ISDN Status


Displays the actual status of the current ISDN connection.

3.3.4. SNMP
The SNMP menu allows you to change the SNMP settings and to enable/disable the
SNMP Traps. Up to 6 SNMP Trap Destinations can be defined.
Trap routines can be monitored using any Trap Receiver and MIB browser.

Allows you to set the required UDP Port number and the password for the read and
write community.

3.3.4.2. SNMP Traps


Trap Version
Trap Version options: [SNMPv1][SNMPv2c]
Enable/Disable Traps:
a) Alarm
Reports whether the audio level threshold selected under 3.3.6 Alarms is out of
tolerance range.
b) Configuration Changed
Reports any changes made in the configuration of the P561.
c) Encoder Audio (AES-Lock)
Reports the receiving of a valid digital audio AES-Signal.
d) Decoder Synchronisation
Valid audio data is received and being decoded.
e) Audio Level
f) ISDN Test-Connection (ISDN models only)
Checks in periodic intervals if the ISDN connection is available.
g) ISDN Connect Status (ISDN models only)

Trap Destination
Up to 6 trap destinations are available.
Allows you to set the Sink Address, Sink Port (default 162) and the Community
password for the appropriate trap destination.

3.3.5. Security
Allows you to change the administrator password.

3.3.6. Alarms
Allows you to set the audio level threshold (overload and silence detection) for each
channel. Select audio level and alarm in SNMP menu to generate the appropriate
Trap.

3.3.7. Date & Time


Allows you to set the Time zone and Clock-Reference and to synchronize date and
time of the device with your PC time.
Clock-Reference options: [Internal] [SNTP]
When set to [Internal], the date and time will be set once and you have to
synchronize manually from time to time.
When set to [SNTP], the time and date will be updated periodically. The
synchronisation interval can be configured in the sub-menu SNTP settings.
Hint: You have to configure the gateway in the Network menu first.
Sub-menu SNTP settings items are:
Primary Time Server
Secondary Time Server
Synchronize Interval[min] (default value: 60)
After changing the Clock-Reference option, click the save button first and then
synchronize.

3.3.8. Profiles
This screen allows you to save and restore the current configuration. This is
recommended before updating your firmware. Refer to section 5 System Update.
Click the “Download” button and save the current configuration on your PC. After
firmware update, you can restore your configuration by entering the file path and
clicking the “Upload” button.
Restart Device → save received configuration and restart with new configuration
Cancel → return to previous page, received configuration will be discarded

3.4. Firmware Upload menu


Allows you to update your P56x..
Refer to section 5 System Update for information on the Firmware Upload menu
screen and how to manage it.

3.5. Restart menu


Allows you to perform a Restart, Hard Reboot or a Hard Reboot with Defaults.

3.5.1. Restart
After changing the configuration of your P56x,, you have to restart your system.

3.5.2. Hard Reboot


For a defined state of your P56x you have the possibility to power cycle the device.
All parameters will be set to default values.

Don't use this button after a firmware update. The IP address of the CTRL
interface will be reset.

3.5.3. Hard Reboot with Defaults


To power cycle the device after a firmware update. The IP address of the CTRL
interface is reset to the default value of 192.168.93.152.

4. System Configuration
This chapter describes how you can change the configuration of the P56x from
factory settings to your desired settings. Therefore you have to configure the network
settings and the P56x settings separately. The network setup is performed via the
display and keyboard or the web
web-server. The P56x setup is only performed via the
integrated web-server.

4.1. Network address configuration at the unit


To configure network address, netmask and gateway for the control and stream
module,, you use the keypad and display at the front panel of the unit. Configure the
network IP address the following way:

• Press the ENTER key and the Main menu will be shown. Select the different
items ( Network (CTRL) or Network (DATA) ) using the cursor buttons
bu  and . The
currently chosen item is highlighted.
• Confirm with “ENTER”.

• To jump between the addresses, use the cursor buttons  and .


• Press “ENTER” to confirm and the first digit of the IP address is now also
highlighted.
• Step to the digits of the
e IP address you want to change, using the cursor buttons
and .
• Change the value of this digit with the cursor buttons  and .. Perform all
necessary changes.

• Press the “ENTER” key to confirm the changes or “ESC” to discard the changes.
• Use the cursor button  to step down to the “Save” menu entry and press
“ENTER” to leave the menu.
• Netmask and gateway are configured in the same way.
• Upon all modifications you have taken use the cursor button  to step down to
the “Save & Restart” menu entry

will be asked if he/she wants to “Save Changes and Restart” or “Don't Save” this
configuration.

• “Save Changes and Restart” will then perform a restart and the new settings will
be active.

Attention should
hould be paid to configure different IP addresses for both interfaces.

Hint:

Change the control network settings via the front panel of the P56x.
Change the other parameters via the web interface.

4.2. Network configuration using the Web Interface

It is not recommended to use the web interface for the configuration


of the unit´s IP addresses. If you forget the actual IP address, the
device may become unreachable via IP.

Click the Configuration link and a sub menu appears. Select the Network link. You
can type the desired values for the IP address, Netmask, Default gateway and
Ethernet mode for both the Control Interface

Ethernet mode:
Allows you to set the Ethernet mode.
Configuration options: [Autonegotiation] [10MBit/s Halfduplex]
[10MBit/s Fullduplex] [100MBit/s Halfduplex]

Confirm your settings with save and press the “Restart system” button. The P56x will
reboot and the changed configuration will be used.
Shut down the browser to log off the P56x web-server.

Note

For a relogin you now need to enter the new network settings into your web
browsers address field.

4.3. P56x configuration using the Web Interface

Note

In case of a new P56x unit, you must configure the IP address according to
your administration network with the keys and display at the front panel of
the unit. For details see section 4.1 .

Start the P56x integrated web-server. For information how to access and login see
section 3 On System HTTP/Web-server.
Click the Configuration link and depending on your P56x model the appropriate
configuration screen appears.
When all settings are done, click the button “Save” at the bottom of the configuration
page.
Restart the system and the changed configuration will be activated.
Shut down the browser to log off the P56x web-server.

single audio stream coming from the encoder algorithm is formatted as a single
program/service using these parameters.
These menu items are just available for devices with transport stream.

4.5.3. Encoder MPEG-TS (DVB)


Here the parameters for the transport stream can be set.

4.5.3.1. DVB table selection


Sets the utilized DVB tables; either no tables at all (off) or a minimum set of tables
(PAT and PMT) or a standard set of tables (DVB).

These menu items are just available for devices with transport stream.

4.5.3.2. Transport stream bitrate (bits/sec)


Sets the bit rate at the ASI output connectors.
If this bit rate is chosen too low (or much too high), the P561 will stop with an error
condition (ERROR LED on) immediately or even some time after “Save” has been
pressed.

4.5.3.3. DVB specific settings


The parameters to define the format of the MPEG-2 transport stream can be set in
the menu items transport stream ID, Network ID, Original network ID, Network name,
ISO language code.

4.5.4. Encoder Data Output


Select the output mode: the transport stream can be either output through the ASI
connectors or as an RTP/ UDP stream through the RJ45 connector named “DATA”.

5. System Update
The firmware update is provided by Qbit as a single file with the file name
"qbit_q56x_fw_xxx.gz"
_fw_xxx.gz" . This file must be get ready on your computer before update.
(xxx: Version number)

• Start the P56x web-server


server in a browser.
• Choose Profiles under the menu Configuration and save the current
configuration on your computer.
• Select the menu Firmware Upload and load the file.
• Press the Send button to start the update. The update process must not be
interrupted.
• Select the menu Restart and achieve a Hard Reboot with Default to ensure tthat
the IP address of the CTRL interface won't be reset.
• Choose Profiles under the menu Configuration and reload the configuration.
• Select the menu Restart and achieve a restart.

6. Reset to Factory Defaults

All settings and parameters will be reset to factory settings


and have to be readjusted to the desired values.

You have two options to reset the P56x to factory default: via web interface or front
panel keyboard.

6.1. Via front panel keyboard


To reset the P56x to factory settings perform the following steps:
s
1. Switch off the unit.
2. Press and hold the “ENTER” button on the keyboard.
3. Switch on the unit with the “ENTER” button pressed.
4. Wait a few seconds before releasing the “ENTER” button.
The P56x now shows factory settings and parameters. The IP address of the CTRL
interface is reset to the default value of 192.168.93.152. For configuration see
section 32 .

7. Error handling
In case of an error, there are three possible states:
a) The LED STATUS 1 is permanently off.
b) The LED ERROR is permanently on.
c) The LED STATUS 1 is permanently off and the LED ERROR is permanently on.
The first measure could be a re-start of the unit by either switching the AC power off
and ( after a few seconds ) on again, or by triggering a re-start through the
web-interface, or the front panel keyboard ( refer to section 6.1 Via front panel
keyboard). If the error persists, the configuration should be checked for
unreasonable parameters, like the ASI-transport stream bit rate being too low or
much too high, or an unsupported MPEG2/4-encoding bit rate.
