Target Beneficiaries with Rationale

The intended recipients of the proposed initiatives within Brgy. Gacao, Palo, Leyte are
the senior citizens aged 60 and above who reside in the barangay. This demographic
encompasses individuals encountering challenges in executing routine activities, indicating
difficulty in activities of daily living (ADLs), and suffering from prevalent ailments such as
coughs and colds. Furthermore, the target demographic includes seniors exhibiting
suboptimal immunization rates for tetanus, flu, and pneumococcal vaccinations. The rationale
behind directing attention to this specific demographic is grounded in the identification of
their unique health-related concerns through a comprehensive survey. The overarching
objective is to improve their overall quality of life and advocate for preventative healthcare
measures.

XVII. Evaluation
Within a 4 to 5-hour session of activities, health education, and return demonstration
conducted by Group 1, composed of BSN 3 Student Nurses, the senior citizen participants in
Brgy. Gacao, Palo, Leyte are expected to demonstrate heightened cues in various aspects.
This includes an elevated level of community awareness and increased social engagement.
The session integrates Community Garden Involvement as a means of promoting social
engagement, providing a platform for seniors to actively participate in nurturing green spaces
while fostering connections with fellow community members. Additionally, participants
should showcase improved understanding of preventive measures against communicable
diseases, specifically focusing on coughs and colds. The session emphasizes Senior Outreach
activities, designed to bring joy and social interaction to the homes of seniors who may not be
aware of community programs and projects. The goal is to bridge the gap through
personalized visits, creating a stronger sense of community. The comprehensive approach
extends to Word-of-Mouth Campaigns and One-on-One Assistance, recognizing that elders
may not be well-versed in ongoing community initiatives. Volunteers from the BSN 3 Student
Nurses will engage in one-on-one interactions, disseminating information, and offering
assistance to ensure that the elders are not only informed but actively involved in the
resources and projects available within the community. The distribution of hygiene kits is
anticipated to contribute positively to the participants’ well-being, complemented by physical
exercises, arts and crafts activities, and community engagement initiatives, all designed to
invigorate their minds and empower them with a holistic understanding of well-being and
community connection.
