What next for communication?
The way people communicate has changed a lot over the last few years. So many
people check their Facebook page, Twitter account, emails or text messages every
few minutes. How often do you see people in the street not paying any attention to
what is going on around them? They are just busy communicating.
For many people, these technological developments are exciting. Science fiction
becomes science fact. What will be the next big thing? Can you imagine
communicating with anyone, anywhere in the world through your glasses or your
watch? Well, now you can! Although these latest inventions are still expensive, they
will become cheaper and, therefore, more common very soon.
A negative side to this 24-hour communication is that people will be spending more
time alone. There will be no need to meet anyone face-to-face anymore. All you will
need to do to listen to music, upload video clips, send and receive text messages or
emails is look at your watch!
Although there are, of course, many benefits to the communication systems we have
now, there is a danger that soon we will not be able to communicate in reality. I hope
that the advances in technology stop before we all have a microchip and end up
being robots!

NAME:
Everyone who goes to school has ideas about how it could be better. I enjoy school,
but I agree that some little changes could make it better. So, I’ve decided to write
about my ideal school and I’d like to hear what you think too.
First of all, I would like to start school a little later in the morning. Teenagers need a
bit more sleep and if we started school at 10 am for example, I think we would work
better in class. We would finish school a bit later, but I think students would prefer
this.
I would like a wider variety of subjects to choose from. I know that we all have to
learn about history, English and other important subjects, but I’d like to do more
creative subjects like photography and art and even cooking because not everyone
is good at academic subjects.
A friend of mine in a different school does outdoor activities where they learn about
nature, animals and flowers. I think this is a good idea. I also think that we should
have at least one school trip each term. Learning outside of the classroom is good
for everyone – and the teacher too!
I don’t think that getting detention and writing lines is a good idea. I would stop this
and instead, when students do something wrong they could help around the school
(tidying litter or cleaning) or spend time helping younger students with homework.
When we are in our last year of school, I would like lessons on how to look after my
money – how to save money and spend it. I’d also like to find out how to apply for a
job and what do in an interview. Perhaps you do these things in your school already.
Post a message and tell me if it’s a good idea.
