There are 4 categories of care providers doc, nurse, HA, other

A maximum of 20 care providers of each category will respond to the Work Environment
questionnaire. If there are less than 20 care providers in a category, everyone should complete
the questionnaire. If there are more than 20, the selected care providers are randomly chosen.

This means there is “automatic replacement”. When a selected care provider refuses to
participate, another eligible care provider is randomly chosen from the list.

Unless specified otherwise, 4 doctors, 4 nurses, 4 health assistants and 0 other care providers
would be selected to participate in the vignettes. The variables specifying exactly how many
individuals from each category should be selected must be preloaded (variable names:
qn_vig_doc, qn_vig_nurses, qn_vig_ha, qn_vig_other). These variables are
hidden to avoid complexity of the questionnaire for enumerators in the field.te

A total of 10 care providers from the Administrative data roster (the one updated during the
second visit) are randomly selected to complete the absenteeism questions during the second
visits. There are no further conditions for their selection, stratification by profession.

Sebastian/Kathryn:

- Can we change Yes/No questions for checkmarks in Simulations?

- If possible, take a break between simulations – Should we add this in the instructions

- Do we need extra instructions for the second visit?

- GPS (see Dawa’s comments)

Issues:

- It seems that Survey Solutions supports up to 50 answer alternatives. The list of

positions has more than that, which means some alternatives do not appear in the list.
See “ Maximum number of suggestions in a combobox categorial questions”
limits/)
- Variable names are a mess because question numbers have changed very much over
time. Renaming variables would mean re-coding and that would take time. If it is
important we can talk about the timeline for this (June).
- Staff members cannot be more than 60 (staff_list). Select all “small” health center
do not have over 60 health providers and figure out what to do with the rest.

To do (Can Dawa help with any of the following?)

- Change to “combo box” rather than list of all alternatives when considered necessary
- Change Yes/No questions for checkbox questions in case simulations – Discussing with
Checku
- Change wording, write “observer supervisor” rather than “observer enumerator”
- Preload data and start testing the updating procedures
- Test the questionnaires (go over the skips and wording making sure they match the
paper & correct spelling problems and minor typos)

Dawa Comments – Monday 28

o GPS Location: kept mandatory - Hope we will change non mandatory during our final
trash out as it is sometimes very difficult to get location in remote part of the
country.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to make it not mandatory. The section will be marked
as incomplete if this information is not provided. However, we can instruct
supervisors to be flexible about it.
In my experience, GPS data is much better and faster when tablets are equipped with
phone cards (even if they cannot call). Being able to receive calls connects the tablet
to the phone towers and they help the GPS to find location faster by triangulation.
The tablets can also be set so that they don’t require too much precision for the GPS
location to be collected.

o Enumerator’s signature indicating consent obtained - is this feasible as we have to

digitize signature of every respondents
I’ll let Kathryn to respond to this. I just want to point out that we need
ENUMERATOR’S signature. Usually this is done with their fingers on the tablet directly
and not much work is required. We can take a look at your tablet see how this is
working

o Record date and time- I may be wrong but I saw recording date and time in almost all
sections of the question. Is it necessary to do so?
Maybe Kathryn can take a look at this comment. Helps to keep track of the flow of
the interview.

o In the question "How many completed years have you worked at this facility?" - If you
can have some validations like <=100.
DONE

o Please can you tell me your contact cell phone number? - should not allow more than
8 digits as we have only 8 digit in Bhutan.
DONE

o If you can change Choices from “Not applicable” instead of “No applicable” in
question “Is there at least one phone number posted outside the facility so that
health professional staff can be contacted by phone 24 hours a day?”
DONE, you can further correct this when you see it

o In the catchment area section, if I am not mistaken, the total Household cannot be
more than Permanent or Temporary Households and similarly the Total Population
question. Hope I am right Maria.
YES, warning

o I observed in most the question, If you click on don’t know or not applicable then one
cannot click back on the response field to answer the question. For example - What is
the average one-way travel time for people from the catchment area to reach this
facility using the most common mode of transportation?
Click on the X to erase previous answer

o Mandatory field for others specify questions - Hope we will sort out and make all
others specify questions mandatory later, please.
I am not sure I understand, we can take a look on Wednesday

o I think I am not wrong here - I feel "Total Outpatient visits" cannot be more than
"Total outpatient visits during regular" hours or "outside of regular facility hours"
YES, warning

o Total referred outpatient received cannot be more than Total outpatient received
during regular hours or outside of regular facility hours. Similar feelings from my side
in inpatient sections too
YES, warning
o How many display boards showing annual statistical indicators are there in this
facility? - if you can include one “None” option too and hide following questions which
are not related to display boards.
DONE

o If you can allow only 4 digits for all Year questions – YYYY
YES, please check if the current format is convenient or you can improve it
if you have ideas about it

o In this question “In the last 12 months, what were the most common complaints the
facility received from its catchment population and/or patients?” - If you can disabled
or give warning Under Management, Supervision section if Enumerator click on No
complaints received than other fields.
YES, I am not 100% sure I correctly interpreted it. Please take a look and
correct
