Committee: United Nations

Development Programme (UNDP)

Agenda: Advancing Sustainable
Development: Harmonizing Economic
Growth, Environmental Stewardship
and Human Well-being
Country: The Federal Republic of
Germany

As a result of the increasing demands of modern life, preserving the environment has become a significant
challenge. To ensure a sustainable future, it is essential to implement strategies that balance economic growth
with ecological preservation and fairness in resource use. Addressing issues like climate change, economic
disparities, and overconsumption demands united global efforts. These efforts can help foster a future where
development supports environmental health and enhances the quality of life for everyone.

Core resources from Germany and other partners form the foundation for UNDP’s operations and enable the
organization to deliver impactful initiatives and programmes globally, effectively, and transparently. The
country’s support is making a difference to people’s lives through UNDP’s global network, helping to stabilize
societies and rebuild institutions.

Germany ranks among the most influential donors to the UNDP and is dedicated to support UNDP’s numerous
initiatives. Germany has invested 7 million Euros through UNDP’s Climate Promise initiative, to support
developing countries in defining credible long-term pathways for achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement.
Moreover, Germany's contribution of 90 million Euros for UNDP’s regular resources for 2024 assists the
implementation of UNDP's Strategic Plan for 2022-2025, which is perfectly aligned with the 2030 Agenda.
This substantial investment reflects our shared values and common priorities such as stabilization, conflict
prevention, and early recovery

With Germany’s controlled economy, it also maintains its citizens' well-being and environmental goals.
Germany's HDI value for 2022 was 0.950, which puts the country in the Very High human development
category, positioning it at 7 out of 193 countries and territories. However, despite its economy growth,
provisional calculations of the Federal Statistical Office present the seasonally adjusted number of individuals
in employment remains virtually unchanged.

Implementation of the Climate Action Act (Klimaschutzgesetz) in the early 2000s aims on neutralizing the
climate and achieving net zero emissions with the goal of reducing it by a minimum of 65 percent by 2030,88
per cent by 2040 and completely by 2045. Germany is also implementing various approaches advancing other
renewable energy sources such as solar, wind coal etc. and eliminating the use of nuclear plants contributing
to pollution and to prioritize clean energy sources. According to the current status of the initiatives adopted to
reduce greenhouse gases, Germany is slowing down behind this target due to necessary investments in green
energy technologies as a result of rising energy costs and an economic gap, threatening its ability to achieve
climate goals.

Germany is focusing on achieving carbon neutrality in the future and in improving renewable energy with
green technology. In addition, Germany also seeks on introducing AI, biotechnology, addressing labour
market issues for vocational training and enhancing trade relations between countries for the enhancement of
the economy and the well-being of the people. These initiatives will progress for the prosperity of Germany
for a determined sustained environment for the foreseeable future
