Programs and Drum Kits
Sound source configuration of this unit
This unit provides 11 voices in total: Four analog sound sources (BD, SD, LT, HT)
with the basic drum tones, six digital sound sources (CH, OH, RS, CP, SP1, SP2),
and multi-sound sources (VPM, NOISE, USER). You can put your own sample in
the digital sound source parts. You can select one of the three multi-sound sources.
The information about which drum kit you are using is stored in the program of
this unit. Information about tuning, decay, and timbre of each part is stored on
the drum kit side. At the time of shipment from the factory, each program uses the
same bank and the same drum kit number, and the tone parameters are automati-
cally saved in the drum kit when the program is saved.
You can switch the same sound with different patterns to play (as if assembling a song) by
making a setting to use one drum kit with multiple programs. Conversely, you can play
the same pattern with different sounds by changing the drum kit used by the program.
Sound creation is performed by changing the basic parameters (kit controls) and
detailed parameters (parameter knobs 1 to 4). Adjust the volume of each part using
the corresponding knobs in the mixer section.
If you press the LIVE button to switch to Live mode, you can preview the tone of
each part by pressing buttons 1 to 13. First, let's check what kind of sound is made
in Live mode.
We recommend that you save the edited drum kits and programs to this
instrument as soon as possible. Any edits that you make will be lost if you
turn off the power or recall a different program.

Playing and stopping a pattern (During pattern edit)
When you press the STEP button, the following is displayed.
As in Live mode, press the (PLAY) button to play or stop the pattern. You can
pause a pattern by pressing the (PLAY) button while holding down the
SHIFT button.
Also, you can produce various groove feelings by applying the groove type that re-
produces the swing and the playing style of a typical instrument to the pattern data.
Press the TIME button while holding down the SHIFT button, and turn the param-
eter knob while holding down the TIME button. You can also set each part by press-
ing the TIME button while holding down the SHIFT button and the PART button.
TYPE [Global (only the part setting), Swing16, ... , CrescendoHalf]
Select the groove type. The groove type is a 16-step preset template that summa-
rizes the timing and velocity change amount for each step.
16
Swing16: Gives regular swing in 16th note units. Even steps are slower and weak-
er, and odd steps are stronger.
Swing8: Gives regular swing in eighth note units. Makes the back beat to the beginning
of the beat slow and weak, and the front beat strong.
ConstOffset: Evenly delays or strengthens all steps.
Conga1, 2, 3: This type simulates the performance of a conga.
Bongo1, 2, 3: This type simulates the performance of a bongo drum.
Cabasa1, 2: This type simulates the performance of a cabasa.
Claves1, 2: This type simulates the performance of claves.
Cowbell: This type simulates the performance of a cowbell.
Agogo1, 2: This type simulates the performance of an agogô.
Tambourine: This type simulates the performance of a tambourine.
Finger1, 2: Gives a bold and tricky swing similar to the sound you can create by finger
drumming, and puts an emphasis on the beginning of the beat.
Lofi1, 2: Gives a laid-back sluggishness that slightly delays the beat in sections oth-
er than the beginning of the beat.
Baile1, 2: Gives a plunging groove that strongly accelerates to the rhythm of the
dotted eighth notes.
OvalGroove: Gives an elliptical swing that accelerates toward the 1st and 3rd beats
and decelerates toward the 2nd and 4th beats.
Syncopation: Gives a stronger accent to the 16th step compared to the beginning of
the bar.
Crescendo: Gives a change that gradually strengthens and accelerates in 16 steps.
CrescendoHalf: Gives a change that gradually strengthens and accelerates in eight steps.
VELO [-100%...100%]
Sets the amount of change in the velocity strength of the step.
TIP If you select a negative value, you can obtain the opposite effect to the
characteristics of the groove type you selected.
TIME [-100%...100%]
Sets the amount of change in the step timing.
TIP If you select a negative value, you can obtain the opposite effect to the
characteristics of the groove type you selected.

Understanding MIDI and Computers
MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, and is a worldwide standard for ex-
changing various types of musical data between electronic musical instruments and com-
puters. When MIDI cables are used to connect two or more MIDI devices, performance data
can be exchanged between the devices, even if they were made by different manufacturers.
MIDI data can also be exchanged between the drumlogue and your personal computer using
a single USB cable. The drumlogue lets you assign MIDI control change numbers (CC#) to the
major parameters that affect the sound, and control these parameters from an external MIDI
sequencer while you play the tone generator. You can also use the front panel knobs or but-
tons to transmit these control change messages, in order to control an external MIDI device.
You can also synchronize the drumlogue’s tempo to the MIDI clock of an external MIDI
sequencer or other device, so that the drumlogue will play in time with the external device
and with any changes you make.

Connecting the drumlogue to a computer via MIDI
You might want to play the drumlogue’s keyboard and record your performance on an
external MIDI sequencer or computer (connected using the MIDI interface), and then play
the drumlogue while monitoring or playing back what you recorded. You also might
want to use the drumlogue as both an input device for playing notes and as a MIDI tone
generator. In either case, you’ll need to connect the MIDI OUT connector to the MIDI IN
connector on both the drumlogue and the external MIDI sequencer or computer.

MIDI-Related Settings
Setting the MIDI channel
In order to exchange data with a connected external MIDI device, you must set the
drumlogue’s MIDI channel to match the MIDI channel of the external MIDI device.
Set the MIDI channel of this unit with button 7 "MIDI ROUTING" in Global mode
("MIDI ROUTING (Button 7)" p.46).
TIP When synchronizing to an external MIDI device, refer to that device’s
Owner’s manual.
50
TIP For the settings related to synchronization of external MIDI devices, refer
to the instruction manual of the device you are using.
When using this unit as the source and an external MIDI device as the follower
Connect the MIDI OUT connector of this unit to the MIDI IN connector of the ex-
ternal MIDI device.
Set SOURCE in Global mode of this unit to “INT”, and set the external MIDI de-
vice to receive external MIDI clock. Since this unit is the source, the BPM is set by
the TEMPO knob of this unit and MIDI timing clock is sent to the external MIDI
device (sequencer, rhythm machine, etc.).
When using an external MIDI device as the source and this unit as a follower
Connect the MIDI IN connector of this unit to the MIDI OUT connector of the ex-
ternal MIDI device.
Set SOURCE in Global mode of this unit to "AUTO", and set the external MIDI de-
vice to send the MIDI clock.
When receiving a MIDI timing clock, this unit is automatically set as a follower,
and the sequencer operates at the tempo of the external MIDI device (sequencer,
