The topic that I chose: Should colleges raise tuition fees?

The article I chose:

Title : Tuition On The Rise

From the article I chose, the author raised an issue about the importance of
knowing and understanding why tuition fee increase at Caldwell College has
been implemented. The major factor which directly caused the tuition hike was
the raising of salaries for the faculty, staff and administration of the college. The
reason for that is necessary because, as the standard of living in our society
increase, more money is required to maintain the same level of comfort.
Gabrielle, .H and Cielo,. M.S in their article “ Yes/No : Should colleges raise
tuition fees?” stresses the importance of raising tuition due to the fact that state
fundings are being severely cut and many public universities and colleges have
been left out from being funded by state governments, resulting in the decision
to make up for those lost funds with higher tuition fees. It is also necessary for
tuition fees to be raised as the funds are needed to help the universities or
colleges to continue operating as they have been. According to the article by
Nina,. C “ Why is College so expensive ?” to attract students, colleges have
been adding more facilities, including new academic buildings, nicer dorms,
and more extravagant recreation centres. These updates added further financial
strain, hence the need to raise the tuition. However, it is very important to take
note of the fact that while tuition increase in academic institutions is sometimes
necessary, it may include several negative impacts. Young adults suffer the
detrimental effects of tuition raise. According to the article by Gabrielle,. H and
Cielo,. M.S, if annual prices rise, minorities in school districts have a smaller
percentage of receiving a college degree. Through the raise in tuition, minorities
are being singled out and socially discriminated against in the educational
system. Also, academic fee increase is resulting in many students discontinuing
their education by dropping out. As tuition fee increases in colleges and
universities, student debts are also likely to increase. According to a research
conducted, while only one-fifth of students borrowers are grad students, they
account for 40% of total student debt in the U.S. Today's graduates are also less
likely to start businesses due to huge debts after finishing their academic
journey. These trends in student debts not only affect the students, but also
affect the growth of the economy. Also, increase in colleges and universities
tuition fees will create a higher demand for careers which require a higher
education. This is due to the fact that many students are now looking for
moderate careers which are cheaper. Gabrielle,. H and Cielo,. M.S mention in
their article that, clearly students are paying more for a valuable education even
though it is one of the primary responsibilities of states to provide enough
economic support to the educational system. It is important for colleges to
realize the importance of reasonable tuition. Tuition fee should be structured in
a way that benefits the colleges and universities both financially and socially. If
colleges do not have the ability to accommodate students’ need, this will mostly
likely lead to decreased students' participation in college systems.
