1. What is a bar ?
Bar is one division in food and beverage service department that is responsible to serve alcoholic
and non-alcoholic beverage to the guests.
2. How many basic positions are there in a bar?
There are 3 basic position in a bar, namely:
• Bar steward
Bar steward is a person who is responsible to help bartender and bar waiter to pick up alcoholic
and non-alcoholic beverage from storeroom, prepare bar garnished and bar equipments.
• Bar waiter/waitress
Bar waiter/waitress is a person who is responsible to serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage
to the guests.
• Bartender
Bartender is a person who is responsible to make mix drink and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic
beverage to the guests who come and sit in front of the bar counter.
3. Can you tell me about some bar equipments?
There are some bar equipments, such as: vase flower, table number, staw, stirrer, strainer, jigger,
cutting board, long bar spoon, bar knife, shaker, water pitcher, napkin, tray, table cloth, muddler,
blender, wine opener, ice scoop, glass ware, and others.
4. Can you mention some glass ware used in a bar?
The examples of glass ware are: water glass or water goblet, champagne glass, red wine glass, white
wine glass, hi-ball glass, collin glass, old fashioned glass, poco grande glass, champagne sauser glass,
martini/ cocktail glass, juice glass, milk glass, beer glass, and others.
5. There are 2 kinds of beverages, namely:
• Non-alcoholic beverage
The example of non-alcoholic beverage are:
A. Juice
There are 2 kinds of juice, namely:
▪ Fruit juice
The examples of fruit juice are: banana juice, strawberry juice, blueberry juice, orange
juice, and others.
▪ Vegetable juice
The examples of vegetable juice are: carrot juice, tomato juice cabbage juice,
cucumber juice, and others.
B. Squash

E. Coffee
The examples of coffee are: regular coffee, decaffeinated coffee, cappuccino, espresso,
coffee latte, and others.
F. Tea
The examples of tea are: regular tea, decaffeinated tea, herbal tea like: green tea,
chamomile tea, orange spice, and others.
G. Milk
The examples of milk are regular milk, skim milk, chocolate milk, strawberry milk, and
others.
• Alcoholic beverage
The examples of alcoholic beverage are:
A. Beer
Beer is any alcoholic beverages produced through the fermentation process of starchy
materials without going through a distillation process after fermentation.
The examples of beer are: bintang, corona, heineken, and others.
B. Wine
Wine is alcoholic beverages made from fermented fruit.
The examples of wine are: red wine, white wine, and others.
C. Spirit
Spirit is strong alcoholic beverages produced by distilling alcoholic liquid, produced by
fermentation
The examples of spirit are:
a. Brandy : Applejack, cognac, Armagnac, and others
b. Whiskey : American whyskey, irish whiskey, canadian whiskey, and others
c. Ruhm (rum) : White rum, gold rum, dark rum, pina colada, and others
d. Vodka : Vodka tonic, vodka martini, bloody mary, and others
e. Gin : Gordon’s gin, london dry, ballantine dry, and others
f. Tequila : Tequila blanco, tequila reposando, tequila joven, and others
D. Liqueur.
Liqueur is alcoholic beverage composed of spirits (often rectified spirit) and additional
flavorings such as sugar, fruits, herbs, and spices.
6. How many kinds of mixed drink do you know?
There are 2 kinds of mixed drinks, namely:
➢ Cocktail is mixed drink with alcoholic beverage.
➢ Mocktail is mixed drink without alcoholic beverage.
7. Can you explain step by step of making mixed drink?
Step by step of making mixed drink are:
1) Preparing ice cube.
2) Preparing garnish and glass based on the order.
3) Putting enough ice based on the method of making mixed drink.
4) Putting the ingredients based on the recipe.
5) Doing the method of making mixed drink.
6) After cocktail is ready to be served, puting garnish based on the order.
7) Cocktail is ready to be served.
8) Offering the drink to the guest.
8. How many methods of making mixed drink do you know?
The method of making mixed drink are :
1. Preparing
Preparing is pouring all the ingredients into the glass that is used to serve the mixed drink.
2. Stirring
Stirring is pouring all the ingredients into the glass that is used to serve the mixed drink, then,
stiring them by using long bar spoon. After that, pouring into the glass that is used to serve
the mixed drink.
3. Mixing
Mixing is pouring all the ingredients into the mixing glass, then, mixing them. After that,
pouring them into the glass that is used to serve the mixed drink after being strained.
4. Floating
Floating is pouring all the ingredients into the glass that is used to serve the mixed drink
slowly and carefully, therefore they will not mix each other.
5. Blending
Blending is pouring all the ingredients into the blender, after that, blending them. Then,
pouring them into the glass that is used to serve the mixed drink.
6. Shaking
Shaking is pouring all the ingredients into the shaker, then, shaking them. After that, pouring
them into the glass that is used to serve the mixed drink.
7. Muddling
Muddling is putting some lemon skin into the glass that is used to serve the mixed drink, then,
muddling them by using muddler to get their aroma and juice. After that, adding some spirit
and ice.
