Devotion
Devotion is a quality that makes one true to the form of worship he practices. Love in the
form of devotion pulls out energy from the universe and makes a person advance his life to
merge with the absolute.
Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa once said that one should turn all the emotions towards
God. This will help one to purify one's mind and make it a tool to know one's true self which is
eternal.
Why would people not hold the path of devotion as easily as they fancy? What makes them
drive away from the path of devotion? According to Adi Shankaracharya, the force that
misguides a person is “Maya”. In his famous piece of poetry, Baja Govindam says that the life of
a man is as uncertain as rain drops trembling on a lotus leaf and one should know that the
whole world remains a prey to disease, ego and grief. So one should keep the thoughts always
on the lotus feet of lord to come out of illusion.
Today's world seems to be more complicated in running behind pleasures and creating an
illusion that happiness can be achieved through material success. But the truth is all the bodily
pleasures are perishable and become meaningless when we approach the end of life.
A true devotee of God realizes the void that has been created by temporary pleasures and
surrenders everything to the will of God.He enjoys the miracles played by God thereby easily
escapes all the desires.
If a person can achieve utmost devotion, he becomes one with God and attains endless bliss
which is matchless to any other happiness in the world. Steady and faithful devotion will give a
permenant solution to all the problems of this mandane life.
In India there are many glorious saints and sages who showed us how to live a life centred
around God even though we have worldly duties. Such saints guided many Kings and made our
India glorious and spiritual. Devotion is the underlying current that make our country powerful.
