Dear all,
As per the instructions from Director sir, Mentors as per the timetable of the
students, allot a slot or make batches and inform students to meet you in person,
and discuss the following points with your mentees in Mentor-Mentee meeting.
Agenda to be discussed:
I Career Counselling Cell
1. All students must attend and participate in the Industry-Academia
talk whenever its conducted, encourage students/mentees to make use of
these programs (Contact: Dr. Vamshi Krishna and Dr. Anitha Das).
2. Soft skills training for the First-year students has commenced from
31st August 2024, dates and timings according to Sections will be
intimated (Contact: Dr. S. N. Prasad).
II Academics
1. Please advise students on attendance discipline. If attendance falls
below 75%, he or she will be unable to sit for the End- Semester Exam.
University has taken a decision to record average attendance in the marks
sheet henceforth. Since it will have an impact on their placement,
internship, and higher studies, inform everyone to consider it seriously and
try to maintain the highest possible attendance in all courses.
2. Inform students to attend classes on time. Not to be late in the first class
at 9:00 am or 1:00 pm.
3. If Mentees are facing issues with the Teaching Learning Process of any
course get it reported in Report Performa.
4. Library must be utilized regularly, for procuring books and to study,
Library will be open from 8:30 AM to 9:00 PM.
5. Regarding Scholarships and student Loans, please ask student to wait until
the admission process is over, later it will be intimated.
III Examination (Dr. Manjunath M S/ Dr. Rajashekhar V Choudhari).
1. It's very important to sensitize the first-year students about the minimum
credit requirement to be promoted to the Higher Semesters. Requesting
Mentors to discuss the same every alternate week and inform their
parents as well.
To be eligible for promotion to the third semester, a student should have
earned a minimum of 26 credits at the end of the second semester.
To be eligible for promotion to the fifth semester, a student should have
earned a minimum of 68 credits at the end of the fourth semester.
To be eligible for promotion to seventh semester, a student should have
earned a minimum of 110 credits at the end of the sixth semester.
2. Inform students to check with the Quiz Timetable and Carefully check
the room number (AB4 or AB5). The quiz is for 30 minutes duration.
Students coming more than 10 minutes late will not be permitted to
attend the quiz (If they are late ask them to meet Mentor and report to
examination coordinators). Students will not be allowed to leave the quiz
room in the first 10 minutes.
All students should attend the first-year regular quiz.
Any case of malpractice will be awarded ZERO marks and RE-QUIZ will not
be permitted. Possession of mobile phones (switch off or ON with or
without materials), chits, ear pods, programmable calculator, digital
watch with memory, scribbling on body parts, calculators and any other
modes/techniques which can be considered to give undue advantage for
writing the exam will be considered as malpractice.
All students MUST keep their phones and books in their bags. The quiz is a
closed book activity. The bags may be kept near the board and not
OUTSIDE of your room.
Casual absence from regular quiz is not permitted. In case of illness which
is to the extent of preventing you from attending the class for entire day
shall produce medical proofs.
In case of other genuine reasons such as family function, passport/visa
related appointments etc, the parents of the concerned students should
send an email request to manjunath.ms@manipal.edu with supporting
document proofs for approval to attend the Re-quiz.
IV Student Activities
1. First-year students interested in Research activities must identify the
research domain and contact the appropriate faculty advisor; mentors can
assist with this and keep a record of the same (Contact: Dr. Lokesh Singh/
Dr. Anagha P)
2. Identify the Talents related to Sports in State /National/ International
Level (Football, Athletics, Tennis etc), Cultural (Dancer, Singer, Playing
Instruments, Artist), any other talents in your Mentees and make a report
of the same (Contact: Sport- Dr. Naresh E; Cultural- Dr. Arunkumar Yadav).
3. Inform students not to contact outside persons for organising parties
inside or outside the campus without any permission. If they fall into
problem, management will not help to resolve the issue.
4. Ask students to be cautious about the emails or messages they receive, if
it's suspicious they must report to Mentors.
5. According to AICTE, first-year students must not meet with senior students
for 40 days.
6. Substance abuse, Cigarettes, have been found in Hostels. Teacher-
Guardian is the first contact, Council them regarding the issues that occurs
by using the Substance abuse leads to social, physical, emotional, and
Health problems. Students found guilty of misconduct, indiscipline, shall
be liable to disciplinary action.
V. Facilities
If mentees have any issues with General Facilities available like Classroom,
projector, AC, water, Transportation etc get it reported in Report Performa
and submit along with Attendance.
Note for Mentors:
Mentors must ensure that the WhatsApp group contains both parents' and
students' mobile phone numbers, and they must maintain regular contact
with parents.
Make sure that all the students are attending the Mentor-Mentee meeting,
maintaining rapport with students is essential. If they are unable to join
the meeting, Mentors must contact their parents and inform them of their
absence.
Mentors must take all academical and non-academical grievances and
report to First Year Coordinators and HoD where it will be taken up to
Higher authority.
If any cases on Ragging is reported, discusses with the students, and
inform to their parents.
Any leave request from mentees should be approved by mentors after
consulting with parents. Any leave application that does not
have mentor approval is invalid, and they will not be granted clearance
from the hostel. When mentor approve the leave for the students inform
them that they need to report to the hostels within the cut off timing of
9.30 PM.
Day scholars must also obtain mentor approval before taking leave. This
will allow mentors to keep track of their mentees' attendance.
Please spend about 5 minutes with each student, talking about their
education, native place, interests, and so on. One-One interaction may
solve any problem with student, In-house Counsellors can help if the
problem is severe.
Mentors can also discuss any other details or issues with their mentees if
necessary.
