3. General steps for troubleshooting process – Key Points
1. Identify the component.
2. Visually check the component connectors & harness are ok or not.
3. Find out the related circuit diagram from manual.
4. Tests:
a) Open circuit / Continuity Test:
- Ignition off.
- Open the component connector and use multimeter.
- See the circuit diagram for identifying Pin nos.
- Set the multimeter in Sound mode as shown below.
- Connect multimeter pins between the components connector pins as per circuit diagram.
- If Beep sound is coming then continuity is ok if not there is
open wire between pins. Change the harness.

b) Short circuit / Voltage Test: Voltage Test
 Open the component connector and use Multimeter.
 See the circuit diagram for identifying Pin nos.
 Ignition On.
 Set the multimeter in voltage mode.
 Check the voltage between Pin no. with ground.
 If voltage is as per given value in manual then it is ok
if voltage value is greater than or less than given manual
There must be wire short with battery supply or ground.
Change the harness.

C) Resistance Test:
 Ignition off.
 Open the component connectors and use multimeter. Resistance
 See the circuit diagram for identifying Pin nos. of component. Test

 Set the multimeter in Resistance mode.


 Connect multimeter pins between the components pins as
per circuit diagram.
 If resistance value is as per given value in manual then it is ok
if value is greater than or less than given manual there must be
faulty component. Change the component.
