RESEARCH ESSAY
<<First is a look at the structure, rules, and community engagement of
SocioRites.>>
-Structure: The server is seperated into sections, each having channels. There is a
social section with channels for general chats... media... venting... things like
that to keep the chats clean and easy to navigate to find something.. There's also
a few sections for games like the counting game, and tabletops like truth or dare
and would you rather.. All played directly in the chat.
-Staff: There is one owner, who acts with full authority and full consideration
with staff. The owner is failry active socially in the community, but doesn't get
invloved in social drama or rule breaking unless he is called by staff to make the
final call on something. >> Staff is manned by 3 Admins of equal power and
responsability(they have every permission and power the owner does exluding
deleting the community), and are chosen directly by the owner for like-minded
goals. The 3 Admins are over 6 Moderators, who simply moderate... They can chat
mute, vc mute, timeout, and give warnings. When a Moderator gives a strike, an
Admin looks at it and may eccuse it or not, they decide.
yb;-Rules&Guidelines: The rules are few and very detailed but they are left room
for enterpretation by Admins. This allows the members to easily understand what
they are/are not allowed to do, and allows Admins and (to a smaller extent)
Moderators to judge something per case, if needed. >> The cover things like age
restrictions, exclusion issues related to race, identity, and similar. >> The
leading rule is "Everyone is not required to agree with you, but respect is a
must." And the leading guideline for admins seems to be that they don't enforce
things like identity and pronouns if the person with pronouns and/or identity is
being disrespectful about it. IF someone is rude from the start about something,
they don't enforce people using/respecting them.
