Narration
বক্তা যা বলেন ভাই Speech বা Narration বা উক্তক্ত যযমন-
উপলেে উদাহেণ দু ক্তি যেলে যদখা যায়, েো বো বা যেখাে সময় ইংলেক্তিলে বক্তাে বক্তবয দু ইভালব প্রোশ েো হয়।
এে এেক্তিলে বো হয় Direct Speech বা Direct Narration বা প্রেযক্ষ উক্তক্ত এবং অনযক্তিলে বো হয় Indirect
Speech বা Indirect Narration বা পলোক্ষ উক্তক্ত।
(i) Direct Speech: বক্তাে ভাষ্যলে অক্তবেে োে ক্তনলিে ভাষ্ায় বযক্ত েোলে বো হয় Direct Speech বা Direct
Narration। Direct Speech সবসময় inverted coma (“ ") এে মলযয োখা হয়। যযমন—
Mithila says, “I will sit for the HSC examination this year."
(ii) Indirect Speech: বক্তাে ভাষ্ালে হুবহু উদ্ধৃে না েলে অেথ ক্তিে যেলখ ক্তনলিে মলো েলে পলোক্ষভালব প্রোশ
েোলে বো হয়। Indirect Speech বা Indirect Narration। যযমন-
Mithila says that she will sit for the HSC Examination this year.
(i) Reporting verb: Inverted comma- এে বাক্তহলেে অংলশে verb- যে Reporting verb বলে । Reporting
verb দ্বাো বক্তা োে বক্তবয শুরু েলে।
এই উদাহেণক্তিলে যদখা যায়, বক্তা েো শুরু েেলে ক্তিে এভালব, He said বা যস বেলো অেথাৎ এখালন said হলো
Reporting verb.
(ii) Reported speech: Inverted comma-এে মলযয যয বােযক্তি োলে োলে Reported speech বলে।
উপলোক্তিক্তখে উদাহেলণ যদখা যায় যয, “I am ill" এই বােযক্তি inverted comma-এে মলযয আলে। সু েোং I am ill
– ই হলো Reported speech.
এোডাও আমালদে মলন োখলে হলব Reporting verb-এে আলেই যয পদক্তি বযবহাে েো হলয়লে ো Reporting
verb- এে Subject এবং Reporting verb-এে পলে যক্তদ যোলনা পদ োলে েলব ো Reporting verb এে object
বলে যো হলব। যযমন—
এখালন Meena হলো Reporting verb- এে Subject এবং Tina হলো Reporting verb- এে Object.
Rule-02
Direct Speech-এে Reporting Verb যক্তদ Past Tense-এ হয়, োহলে Indirect Speech-এ Reported Speech-
এে Verb পক্তেবক্তেথে হলয় corresponding Past Tense অেথাৎ অনু প Past Tense হলব। যযমন-

Past Tense Present Perfect Continuous Tense Past Perfect Continuous Tense
(i) Present Indefinite Tense ⟹ Past Indefinite Tense: Direct Speech/Narration- এ Reporting
Verb যক্তদ Past Tense এবং Reported Speech- এে Verb ক্তি Present Indefinite Tense হয়, েলব Indirect
Speech/Narration-এ Reported Speech-এে Verb-ক্তি Past Indefinite Tense-এ পক্তেবক্তেথে হয় । যযমন-
(iii) Present Perfect Tense ⟹ Past Perfect Tense: Direct Speech/Narration- এ Reported
Speech- এে Verb যক্তদ Present Perfect Tense হয়, েলব Indirect Speech এ ো Past Perfect Tense-এ
পক্তেবক্তেথে হয়। যযমন—
(iv) Present Perfect Continuous Tense ⟹ Past Perfect Continuous Tense: Direct Narration-
এ Reported Speech-এে Verb যক্তদ Present Perfect Continuous Tense হয়, েলব Indirect Speech-এ ো
Past Perfect Continuous Tense-এ পক্তেবক্তেথে হয়। যযমন—
Indirect: Laboni said that she had been reading for two hours.
■ ক্তেন্তু Direct Narration- এ Reported Speech যক্তদ দু ই বা েলোক্তযে Verb, Past Indefinite Tense-এ হয়,
েলব Indirect Narration-এ ো অপক্তেবক্তেথে োেলব। যযমন-
Direct: Sifat said, “Last year I went to Savar and visited the National Memorial."
Indirect: Sifat said that last year he went to Savar and visited the National Memorial.
(vi) Past Continuous Tense ⟹ Past Perfect Continuous Tense: Direct Narration-এ Reported
Speech যক্তদ Past Continuous Tense হয়, েলব Indirect Speech-এ ো Past Perfect Continuous Tense-এ
পক্তেবক্তেথে হয়। যযমন-
Indirect: Sohel said that he had been passing through a deep forest.
(vii) Past Perfect/Past Perfect Continuous: Direct Narration-এ Reported Speech যক্তদ Past Perfect
অেবা Past Perfect Continuous Tense হয়, েলব Indirect Speech-এ ো অপক্তেবক্তেথে োেলব। যযমন-
Indirect: Supta said that he had completed his lessons before he went to bed.
Direct: Bipul said, "I had been suffering from fever for three days."
Indirect: Bipul said that he had been suffering from fever for three days.
(vill) Future Tense ⟹ Future in the form of past: Direct Narration- এ Reported Speech- এে
Verb যক্তদ Future Tense হয়, েলব Indirect Narration- এ ো Future in past-এ পক্তেবক্তেথে হয়। যযমন-
Indirect: Shaily said that she would go to America along with her parents.
EXCEPTION (বযক্তেক্রম)
Rule-03
Direct Narration-এ Reported Speech যক্তদ যোলনা Universal truth (ক্তচেন্তন সেয) বা Habitual fact (অভযাসেে
সেয); Geographical fact (যভৌলোক্তেে সেয); Historical fact (ঐক্তেহাক্তসে সেয); Still truth (এখলনা সেয ক্তবষ্য়),
Quotation (উদ্ধৃক্তে), Proverbs (প্রবাদ বােয) ইেযাক্তদ যবাঝায়, েলব Reporting Verb, Past Tense- হওয়া সলে
Reported Speech-এে Tense-এে যোলনা পক্তেবেথন হলব না । যযমন-
Indirect: My mother said that the earth moves round the sun.
Rule-04
Direct Narration- এ Reported Speech-এ যক্তদ ‘must’ োলে েলব, Indirect Speech-এ ো ‘had to’- যে
পক্তেবক্তেথে হয়। যযমন --
ক্তেন্তু must দ্বাো ক্তচেোেীন বাযযবাযেো বা যোলনা rule বা principle যবাঝালে must এে যোলনা পক্তেবেথন হলব না
। যযমন-

Direct Narration-এ Reported Speech-এ মূ ে Verb- এে পূ লবথ should বা would যক্তদ Future in past ক্তহলসলব
বযবহৃে হয়, েলব Indirect Speech-এ ো Subject- এে person অনু যায়ী পক্তেবক্তেথে হলব। যযমন-
Indirect: Yasmin said that she would be grateful if I lent her my book.
ক্তেন্তু ‘should’ যক্তদ উক্তচোলেথ বযবহৃে হয় েলব ো অপক্তেবক্তেথে োেলব। যযমন—
Rule-06
Direct Narration-এ Reported Speech- এ মূ ে Verb এে পূ লবথ could, might, used to, ought to ইেযাক্তদ
োেলে Indirect Speech-এ ো অপক্তেবক্তেথে োেলব। যযমন-
Direct: Sathi said, “I used to wake up early in the morning while I was a student."
Indirect: Sathi said that she used to wake up early in the morning while she had been a student.
Rule-07
Direct Narration-এ Reported Speech-এে মূ ে Verb- এে পূ লবথ যক্তদ can বা may োলে, েলব Indirect
Speech/Narration-এ এলদে পক্তেবলেথ Could বা might বসলব। যযমন—
Exception:
Direct Narration-এ Reported Speech-এে Subject 'We’ যক্তদ মানব িাক্তেলে ক্তনলদথশ েলে অেবা বক্তা
(Speaker) এবং যরাো (Listener), যালে উলেশয েলে বো হয়, োলদে দু িনলে যবাঝায়, েলব Indirect Narration-
এ 1st Person 'We’-এে যোলনা পক্তেবেথন হলব না।
Rule-02
Reported Speech- এে অন্তেথে 2nd Person (you, your, yours) সবথদা Reporting Verb-এে Object-এে
Person. Number ও Gender অনু যায়ী পক্তেবক্তেথে োলে । যযমনঃ

Reported Speech- এে অন্তেথে 3rd Person (he, she, they, him, her, them, his, their, hers, theirs ইেযাক্তদ)
সবথদা Indirect Narration-এ অপক্তেবক্তেথে োলে। যযমন—
Rule-04
যক্তদ Reported Speech-এ বক্তা বা Speaker এে যোলনা উলিখ না োলে, েলব Speaker েলে ক্তনলয় Indirect
Speech েেলে হয় । যযমন-
Indirect: The speaker told the person spoken to that he was going to buy an apartment very soon.
Point to be remembered: Reported Speech-এ Exclamatory Sentence েখলনা েখলনা অসম্পূ ণথ োলে অেথাৎ
Subject এবং Verb এে উলিখ োলে না । এলক্ষলে Indirect Speech এ 1st Person বযবহাে েোিাই যরয়। যযমন-
Reporting Verb যক্তদ Past Tense-এ োলে, েলব Indirect Speech to Direct Speech-এে ক্তনেিবেথী পদলে
দূ েবেথী শলব্দ পক্তেবেথন েেলে হয়। যযমন—

The day after tomorrow (েে পেশুক্তদন) The second day following (ক্তদ্বেীয় ক্তদলনে পলেে ক্তদন)
Yesterday (েেোে) The previous day / The day before (পূ লবথে ক্তদন/আগের ক্তদন)
The day before yesterday (েে পেশুক্তদন) The second day preceding (প্রেক্তদলনে আলেে ক্তদন)
Last night (েেোে) The previous night (পূ লবথে োে)
Last month (েে মাস) The previous month/The month before (পূ লবথে মাস)
Last year (েে বেে) The previous year/The year before (পূ লবথে বেে)
Next week (পেবেথী সপ্তাহ) The following week (সামলনে সপ্তাহ)
Indirect: She said that she was leaving London that week.
ক্তেন্তু this / that এে পে যক্তদ সময় ক্তনলদথশে যোলনা Noun না বলস অনয যোলনা Noun বলস েলব ো সাযােণে
the- যে পক্তেবক্তেথে হয় । যযমন-
Indirect: Muna said that her father gave her the phone on her birthday.
Direct Narration-এ Reported Speech-এ বযবহৃে here / there দ্বাো স্পষ্টভালব যোলনা স্থালনে উলিখ োেলে
Indirect Speech-এ here/there-এে যোলনা পক্তেবেথন হয় না । যযমন-
Direct: Mamun said to Sumon. “I will see you there at Motijheel the next week.”
Indirect: Mamun told Sumon that he would see him there at Motijheel the following week.
ক্তনলয় ক্তবক্তভন্ন যনে Sentence-এ Speech/Narration এে ক্তনয়ম ক্তবস্তাক্তেেভালব আলোচনা েো হলো :
ASSERTIVE SENTENCE
Reported Speech যক্তদ Assertive Sentence- এ যেলে, েলব Indirect Speech/Narration-এ রূপান্তলেে সময়-
(i) Reporting Verb ক্তহলসলব say/says/said োেলে Indirect Speech-এ ো সাযােণে অপক্তেবক্তেথে োখাই যরয়।
যযমন—
(ii) Reporting Verb-এে Object োেলে say to/says to/said to এে পক্তেবলেথ tell/tells/told বযবহৃে হলব ।
যযমন-
(iii) Reporting Verb ক্তহলসলব say/says/say to/says to/will say োেলে অেথাৎ Reporting Verb- ক্তি Present
অেবা Future Tense হলে Reported Speech- এে Tense- এে যোলনা পক্তেবেথন হলব না । যযমন-
(iv) Reporting Verb ক্তহলসলব said/said to োেলে অেথাৎ Reporting Verb- ক্তি Past Tense হলে
Reported Speech-এে পক্তেবেথন হলব। যযমন-
(v) Reporting Verb ক্তি Past Tense হলেও Reported Speech-এ যোলনা Universal truth (ক্তচেন্তন
সেয)/Selentitle truth (ববজ্ঞাক্তনে সেয/প্রবাদ বােয/ ঐক্তেহাক্তসে সেয) Indirect Speech-এ Tense-এে যোলনা
পক্তেবেথন হলব না। যযমন-
(vi) Reporting Verb- এে পেবেথী Comma (,) এবং Reported Speech-এে Inverted Comma (“ ”) উলি
ক্তেলয় Conjunction ক্তহলসলব that বসলব । যযমন—
(vii) Reported Speech-এে অেথ ও ভাবানু সালে Indirect Speech- এ Reporting Verb এে স্থলে েখলনা েখলনা
hope, believe, remark, declare, comment ইেযাক্তদ বসালে হয় । যযমন-
Direct: Fuad said “I hope I will obtain the 1st place in the examination."
Indirect: Fuad hoped that he would obtain the 1st place in the examination.
Direct: Sumon said to me. You have done well in the dance competition."
Indirect: Sumon remarked that I had done well in the dance competition.
Direct: The Managing Director of the company said, "All the employees will be given Incentive bonus."
Indirect: The Managing Director of the company declared that all the employees would be given
incentive bonus.
Indirect: Rehana believed that her husband would return one day.

INTERROGATIVE SENTENCE
Reported Speech যক্তদ Interrogative Sentence-এ োলে, েলব Indirect Speech/Narration-এ রূপান্তলেে সময়-
(i) Reporting Verb- ক্তি ask, enquire of, demand of, want to know ইেযাক্তদলে পক্তেবক্তেথে হয় । যযমন-
(ii) Direct Speech/Narration- এ Interrogative Sentence- এ োো Reported Speech- ক্তি Assertive
Sentence এ পক্তেণে হয়।
Reported Speech যক্তদ Auxiliary Verb (am, is are, was were, do, does, did, shall, will, can, may, have,
has ইেযাক্তদ) দ্বাো আেম্ভ হয়, োহলে Reported Speech এ পূ লবথ বা whether বলস যযমন—
Direct: Rajan said to his sister. “Will you go to Canada along with your husband?"
Indirect: Rajan asked his sister whether she would go to Canada along with her husband.
(iii) Reported Speech যক্তদ Interrogative Pronoun: যযমন- Who, which, what, whose ইেযাক্তদ
অেবা Interrogative Adverb: যযমন- Where, why, how ইোক্তদ দ্বাো আেম্ভ হয়, েলব if/whether না বলস ঐ
শব্দক্তিই বলস। যযমন-
(iv) Assertive Sentence-এে যশলষ্ Tag Question োেলে Interrogative-এে ক্তনয়মানু যায়ী অনয সব পক্তেবেথলনে
পে Tag Question -ক্তিে ক্তিে পূ লবথ and hoped/assumed that + Tag Question, Sub. (ক্তনয়মানু যায়ী পক্তেবেথন) +
auxiliary verb এে পক্তেববথন। যযমন—
Note: Tag question -এ not োেলে ো বাদ যালব ক্তেন্তু not না োেলে not আনলে হলব।

IMPERATIVE SENTENCE
1. Reporting Verb-ক্তি Reported Speech-এে ক্তবক্তভন্ন ভাব; যযমন— অনু লোয যবাঝালে request, আলদশ, ক্তনলদথশ
যবাঝালে order / command, ক্ষমা যবাঝালে beg উপলদশ যবাঝালে advise এবং এে যোলনািাই না যবাঝালে tell
বযবহৃে হয়। েলব Reporting Verb ক্তি Past form হলে উক্তিক্তখে Verb-গুলোেও Past form হলব। যযমন—
Direct: The teacher said to me, “Always take the honest policy."
2. Reported Speech-ক্তি যক্তদ মূ ে ক্তক্রয়া দ্বাো শুরু হয় েলব Inverted comma েুলে ক্তদলয় to বযবহাে েেলে হলব
এবং Reported Speech-ক্তি হুবহু ক্তেখলে হলব। এলক্ষলে Reported Speech-এে Tense-এে যোলনা পক্তেবেথন হলব
না। যযমন—
3. Imperative Sentence-ক্তি যক্তদ Negative হয় েলব Reporting Verb-এে পলে not to বলস । যযমন-
4. Reported Speech -ক্তি Please দ্বাো আেম্ভ হলে Please ভুলে ক্তদলয় প্রেলম Kindly বযবহাে েো যায়। েলব শুযু
Please বাদ ক্তদলেও চলে। যযমন-
Indirect: Meena requested Rina to give her (M) her (R) book.
5. Reported Speech-এ Vocative Case (অেথাৎ োউলে সলবাযন েো যবাঝালে) োেলে ো বাদ ক্তদলে হয় অেবা
অক্তেক্তেক্ত ক্তহলসলব Addressing যযাে েেলে হয় যযমন—
Direct: Badal said, “Rajan, come here."
6. Reported Speech-ক্তি let us দ্বাো শুরু হলে এবং প্রস্তাব যদওয়া যবাঝালে Reporting Verb-এে পক্তেবলেথ propose
to + obj. or suggest to + obj. বযবহৃে হয়। Inverted comma- এে পক্তেবলেথ that বযবহৃে হয় । Reported
Speech-এ Subject-এে পলে should বসালে হয়। যযমন-
7. Direct Speech এ let োো সলেও বােযক্তিে অেথ যক্তদ বাস্তাব না যবাঝায় Reporting Verb ক্তহলসলব say/tell
বসালে হয় । Inverted comma েুলে that এবং Subject-এে পলে may বা might ক্তেংবা might be allowed to
বসালে হয় । েলব বােযক্তিে অেথানু সালে যয-লোলনােেম পক্তেবেথন হলে পালে। যযমন-
এখালন েক্ষণীয়, Reported Speech- এে Tense- এে পক্তেবেথন Assertive Sentence এে মলোই হলচ্ছ ।
9. Reported Speech-এে শুরুলে main verb- এে পূ লবথ Do যিাে যদওয়া অলেথ বযবহৃে হলে Indirect Speech-এ
Reporting verb-এে পূ লবথ emphatically বসালে হয় এবং Do বাদ ক্তদলে হয় । যযমন -
10. েখলনা েখলনা Reported Speech- এে শুরুলে could/ would বযবহাে েলে Interrogative
Sentence-এে মাযযলম request বেক্তে েো হয় । এলক্ষলে Reporting verb ক্তহলসলব 'request’ বক্তসলয় Imperative
Sentence- এে ক্তনয়মানু যায়ী to + main verb-সহ পক্তেবেথন েেলে হয়। যযমন—
Or. Rabi modestly asked Nazrul if he (N) could go with him (Rabi).

Reported Speech যক্তদ Exclamatory Sentence-এ োলে, েলব Indirect Narration-এ রূপান্তলেে সময়-
(i) Direct Speech দ্বাো আনন্দ যবাঝালে Reporting Verb পক্তেবেথে হয় exclaim/exclaim with joy/exclaim in
delight/exclaim in wonder ইেযাক্তদ এবং দু ঃখ যবাঝালে Reporting Verb পক্তেবক্তেথে হলয় exclaim/exclaim with
sorrow/exclaim in grief/exclaim with regret ইেযাক্তদলে রূপান্তক্তেে হয় । এোডা Reporting Verb ক্তহলসলব exclaim
in wonder, cry out in delight, cry out in sorrow, exclaim with anger, exclaim with surprise ইেযাক্তদ বযবহৃে
হলে পালে। --
(iii) Inverted comma উলি ক্তেলয় Reported Speech- এে পূ লবথ that বলস ।
(iv) Reported Speech ক্তি what বা how দ্বাো শুরু হলে Indirect Narration-এ োলদে পক্তেবলেথ Adjective-এে
পূ লবথ very এবং Noun এে পূ লবথ great বলস। যযমন—
Indirect: Konika exclaimed with joy that the baby was very beautiful.
Point to be remembered: Exclamation-এে প্রেৃক্তে সম্পলেথ যক্তদ সক্তিেভালব যােণা পাওয়া না যায়, েলব
Reporting Verb ক্তহলসলব শুযু exclaim cry out বযবহাে েোই যরয় । যযমন--

3. যোন বক্তাে পে পে এোক্তযে উক্তক্ত (speech) োেলে ২য় বা েৎপেবেথী উক্তক্তগুক্তেে যক্ষলে-
(a) Assertive sentence-এ added /further added/ also said/ again said ইেযাক্তদ বযবহাে েেলে হয় ।
এবং
(b) Interrogative sentence- এে যক্ষলে also asked/again asked/further asked ইেযাক্তদ বযবহৃে হয় ।
Example:
Direct: The old man said to me. “You can go home now. You may come tomorrow." Indirect: The
old man told me that I could go home then. He added that I might come the next day.

4. (a) Reported Speech-এ যক্তদ শুযু 'Yes’ োলে োহলে Indirect েোে সময় 'yes’-এে পক্তেবলেথ
replied in the affirmative বযবহাে েেলে হয়। অেবা subject এে পে প্রলয়ািনীয় auxiliary verb বলস।
Example:
Direct: Rajib said to me. “Have you finished the work?" I said. “Yes".
(b) Reported Speech- এ “Yes"- এে পে যক্তদ যোন বক্তবয োলে, েলব Indirect Speech-এ “Yes"-এে
পক্তেবলেথ replied in the affirmative and said that বলস ।
Example:
Nazrul replied in the affirmative and said that he would submit that the next day.
বযাখযাঃ উপলেে Direct speech এ Asif এে প্রলেে উত্তলে Nazrul শুযু “Yes" বলে োে বক্তবয যশষ্ েলেক্তন। বেং
“Yes" এে পে আলো বলেলে I will submit it tomorrow. োই ক্তনয়ম অনু যায়ী Indirect Speech Yes-এে
পক্তেবলেথ replied in the affirmative and said that বলসলে।
(c) Reported speech-এ যক্তদ শুযু No োলে োহলে Indirect েোে সময় No-এে পক্তেবলেথ replied in the
negative বসালে হয় অেবা subject এে পে প্রলয়ািনীয় auxiliary verb + not বসালে হয়।
sub + don’t / doesn’t / didn’t/ am not / isn’t/ aren’t/ wasn’t / weren’t / haven’t / hasn’t / hadn’t
Example:
Indirect: Sumi asked Shila if she (Shila) was doing anything then.
(d) Reported speech-এ No এে পে যক্তদ যোন বক্তবয োলে, েলব Indirect speech-এ No-এে পক্তেবলেথ
Example:
Indirect: Jhumu asked Mitu if she (M) was going to Chattogram the next day.
Mitu replied in the negative and said that she had changed her decision.

5. Direct speech-এ Sir োেলে Indirect speech-এ addressing as sir ক্তেখলে হয়। অেবা Sir এে পক্তেবলেথ
respectfully ক্তেখলে হয়।

Direct: The officer said to the manager. “Sir, I need one day leave."
Indirect: The officer told the manager respectfully that he needed one day leave.
Or. Addressing the manager as sir, the officer said that he needed one day leave.
6. Reported speech-এ যক্তদ োউলে address (সলবাযন েো হয় েলব addressing as ক্তদলয়
Indirect speech শুরু েেলে হয়।
Example:
Direct: “Are you hungry, friends?" said the shrewd (b) king.
Indirect: Addressing them as friends, the shrewd king asked if they were hungry.

7. Reported speech যক্তদ Allah/by Jove/by God/by my life Indirect speech Swearing by Allah / Jove/ God
/ my life ইেযাক্তদ দ্বাো শুরু হয়, োহলে োলদে পক্তেবলেথ Indirect speech-এে শুরুলে Swearing by
Allah/Jove/God/my life বসালে হয় ।
Example:
Direct: “By Allah", he replied, "I will not leave this house."
Indirect: Swearing by Allah, he replied that he would not leave that house.
8. Inverted comma-এে বাইলে reporting verb যু ক্ত phrase-এে অক্তেক্তেক্ত অংশ ক্তহলসলব Present Participle
Phrase োেলে Indirect speech-এ উক্ত Present Participle Phrase, sentence- এে শুরুলে বসলব।
Direct: “Are you brothers?" asked the mistress of the house, turning to the dervishes.
Indirect: Turning to the dervishes, the mistress of the house asked if they were brothers.
বযাখযাঃ উপলেে Direct Speech-এ turning to the dervishes reporting verb যু ক্ত phrase asked the
mistress of the house- এে অক্তেক্তেক্ত অংশ । োই Indirect speech-এ Present Participle Phrase (turning to
the dervishes) sentence- এে শুরুলে বলসলে ।
9. Reported speech ক্তি Assertive form হওয়া সলেও যক্তদ োে যশলষ্ প্রেলবাযে ক্তচহ্ন োলে, েলব Indirect
েোে সময় Reporting verb-এে পূ লবথ Being surprised ক্তেখলে হয়। যযলহেু এ িােীয় sentence দ্বাো যোন
ক্তেেু িানলে চাওয়া হয় োই Indirect speech-এ রূপান্তে েোে সময় Interrogative sentence এে ক্তনয়ম

Direct: She said to me. "You have remembered how she looked all these years?"
Indirect: Being surprised, she asked me if I had remembered how she had looked all those years.

11. Reported speech-এ “Good bye" োেলে Indirect েোে সময় Reporting verb এে subject + bade +
object + good-bye বলস ।

বযাখযাঃ উপলেে Reported speech-এ Good bye োোয় Indirect েোে সময় ক্তনয়মানু যায়ী প্রেলম subject (he),
োেপে reporting verb said এে পক্তেবলেথ bade object (his friends) এবং যশলষ্ good bye বলসলে।
12. Reported speech-এ good morning/good evening/good night োেলে Indirect েোে সময় Reporting
verb-এে Subject + wished + good morning/good evening/good-night বলস ।
Example:
বযাখযাঃ উপলেে Reported Speech-এ “Good morning" োোয় Indirect েোে সময় ক্তনয়ম
অনু যায়ী প্রেম subject (+) োেপে reporting verb said-এে পক্তেবলেথ wished, োেপে object (him) + good
morning বলসলে।
13. অলনে সময় Reported speech-এ পূ ণথাঙ্গ sentence োলে না sentence-এে অংশ অেথাৎ phrase োলে।
যসলক্ষলে Indirect-এ পক্তেবেথন েোে সময় বক্তাে বক্তবযলে অনু সেণ েলে উক্ত speech-যে পূ ণথাঙ্গ sentence -এ
রূপান্তে েেলে হয়।
Direct: You’ve carried me a long way. How much pay you? I said to the rickshaw puller.
“Fifty takas?"
Indirect: I told the rickshaw puller that he had carried me a long way.
বযাখযাঃ উপলেে Reported speech-এে fifty taka এেক্তি phrase পূ ণথাঙ্গ sentence নয়। বক্তা এখালন বেলে চালচ্ছ
পঞ্চাশ িাোয় োে চেলব ক্তেনা। োই Indirect েোে সময় ক্তেখলে হলো fifty taka would do.
14.অলনে সময় Direct speech-এ বক্তা ও যরাোে উলিখ োলে না। যসলক্ষলে বক্তাে যক্ষলে the speaker এবং
যরাোে যক্ষলে the listener অেবা the person spoken to বযবহাে েেলে হয়।
Indirect: The speaker asked the (the person spoken to) if he (L) was going to his house the next day.
The listener replied in the affirmative and said that he would come the next evening

he (stranger) needed. In reply, he (stranger) said that he (stranger) would buy five tickets. Then the
ticket seller told him (stranger) to take those tickets and also said that they (tickets) would cost three
thousand taka.
11. A cat hearing that a hen was laid up sick in her nest, paid her a visit of condolence and addressing
the hen as his (c) dear, the cat asked her (h) how she (h) was. He (c) again asked her (h) what he (c)
could do for her (h). He requested her (h) to only tell him (c) if there was anything in the world that
he could bring for her. The hen thanked the cat and told him (c) to be good enough to leave her and
said that she had no fear but she would soon be well.
12. Drawing the attention of his sons, the old man told them that a great treasure lay hidden in the
estate which he was about to leave them. The sons asked him where it was hidden. In reply, the old
man told them that he was about to tell them. He added that they must dig the land for it.

for his reply the boy had entered the room and respectfully said that he had come from Palashpur with
a letter from Mr. Ajit Bose. Being surprised he asked him smiling if he had really come from Ajit Bose.
He again asked how he was. The boy replied that he was not well and added that he had been suffering
from a serious illness for two years. He exclaimed with grief that it was very sad and prayed that God
might cure him.
39. The merchant asked the youth where he was going. The youth replied that he had been going to
see him (m). Then the merchant asked the youth what he wanted. The youth then replied that he
wanted to earn his own bread by the labour of his hands. The merchant again asked the youth if he
really wanted work. The youth replied that he would really want work if he (m) had any. Then the
merchant ordered the youth to follow him (m) and to carry a box from a shop to his (m) house.The
youth said that he (y) did not see how he (y) could do that.
40. The teacher asked the student where he was from. The student replied that he was from Nepal.
The teacher again asked him how he (s) had found Dhaka when he had first arrived. The student then
told the teacher with admiration that he (s) liked it very much and added that he (s) thought the city
was very beautiful.
41. The two rats shouted and told the monkey to stop and also said that he (m) was eating all their
bread. The monkey replied that he was doing his best but he had told them that it was difficult. The
rats requested him (m) to give them that little piece. The monkey replied that that was his piece and
asked if he had not laboured a lot for them. The rats exclaimed with despair that they were very foolish
believing him.
42. The stranger asked/enquired of the boy if/whether he would tell him the way to the nearest hotel.
The boy replied that he would but asked him if he wanted a residential one in which he could spend
the night. The stranger replied that he did not want to stay there, but he only wanted a meal. The boy

44. Lipi asked/inquired of Mina where she had gone the previous day/the day before. Mina
replied/answered that she had gone to Chattogram to see her mother. She (M) added that she (Mina's
mother) had been suffering from high blood pressure. Lipi again asked Mina if she (Mina's mother) was
sound then. Mina replied that she was not so.
45. The teacher asked the boy if he thought that honesty is the best policy. The boy respectfully replied
in the affirmative and said that he thought so. Then the teacher advised the boy to learn to be honest
from his boyhood. The boy respectfully thanked his teacher. The teacher prayed that Allah might grant
him (boy) a long life. 46. Jerry told me that he would pay for it because he had broken it. He again told
me that he had brought the axe down careless. I told him that no one hits accurately every time. I
emphasised that the fault had been in the wood of the handle. Then I assured him that I would see the
man who I had bought it from.
