BASIC SPANISH LANGUAGE
INTRODUCTION
Spanish language is the world' s second most spoken language and a language of business.
Today, Spanish ha s more than 430 million native speakers in 20 countries. Spanish is the
official langu age of M exi co, Argentin a, Chil e, and th e majority of Central and South America.
In the US, over 45 million peopl e are native or second-language Spanish speakers and make
significan t cultural contributi ons to th e nation .
IMPORTANCE
Learning basic Spanish allows you to do more than simply translate Spanish into English. By
gaining a working proficiency in Spanish, you will have the opportun ity to make new friends,
absorb new cultures, and do business with a huge population of people. Since it is a
Romance language, learning Spanish gives you an advantage in grasping other Romance
languages such as French and Italian. For native English speakers living in the US, Spanish is
by far the most valuable second language to learn.
