i) Define the term statistics.

ii) What is the difference between discrete and continuous variables? Give examples.

iii) State four probabilistic sampling techniques.

iv) What are the main sources of data collecting?

v) Define the term data array.

vi) Briefly explain type I error and type II error in hypothesis testing.

vii) State three types of control charts.

viii) X is a continuous variable, if x ~ Bin (20,0.7), find the mean value and standard
deviation.

ix) Coefficient of skewness of a certain production is 0.8765. Draw the shape of


distribution of that production.

x) What are the two types of estimation?

(d) Calculate the coefficient of variation for the wages in each firm and find which

Question 06
i) The period of time employees have worked at a particular company is normally
distributed with the mean of 12 years and standard deviation of 2 years. If the highest
10% of employees in seniority are to be promoted, what is the minimum period of
time that an employee could have worked?

ii) According to a survey, 80% of the students between 16 and 24 years old use Internet.
You randomly select 80 students in that age range and ask them whether they use
Internet or not. Find the probability where more than 70 students would say that they
use the Internet.

iii) Suppose you are given 3 multiple-choice type questions. Each question has 4 answers
and only one is correct. What is the probability that you can just guess the answers
and get 2 questions right.

iv) According to the Department of Management, University of Rajarata, full time


graduate students receive an average salary of Rs.50 000. The Dean of the University
claims that his graduate students cam more than this. He surveys 100 randomly
selected students and find their average salary is Rs.53 000 with a standard deviation
of Rs.12 000. Is the Dean’s claim correct (∞ = 0.05)?
