There are technically no official relationships between

the characters in the anime, at least none of the major
ones. We know that Oikawa used to have a girlfriend,
but she broke up with him.

The only official relationships would be Daishou and

Mika in the fourth season, and two couples that
appear in the manga (one being between two major
characters). Though, throughout the show, we do get
to see a handful of crushes that some of the
characters might have.

It's not gay at all. It's a sports anime. It's mostly about
friendship between teammates, friendly rivalry, and
trying to reach a seemingly unattainable dream.

Most of the characters are male, since, well, it's about

boys volleyball. Girls are into it because of the pretty
boys, but dudes are into it because of the sports. It's
really the best of both worlds.

But, just like Kuroko no Basket, the noisy, creepy,

fujoshi fans are probably the loudest. Because to
them, even the slight hint of bromance is super gay
and they love it. But actually, the show doesn't focus
on romance at all.

so much salt in the comments, it’s true, a lot of
girls do indeed watch haikyuu for the guys,
even if it’s not you, the reader specifically.

the question was clearly asking the question for

a reason. anime fans have a tendency to make
male relationships romantic even if they’re not,
sometimes with ridiculous “evidence” provided.

take MHA for example, their fandom has to

make everything gay, and it’s kind of the same
with haikyuu IME.

focus on the main concept, not semantics

hello!! girl fan here who absolutely loves
haikyuu for the pretty boys and didn’t much
care for sports before starting the show!!!! even
as someone who somewhat enforces your
stereotype here i wanted to say this answer is
so rude and misogynist!!!!!! haikyuu is
emotionally complex and its
relationships/character arcs are absolutely
beautiful and i think you’d be wrong to say
there isn’t a lot of obvious love between the
characters or levels of understanding and
respect that they can’t find in other people.
romantic and platonic love are so intertwined
that i don’t think those “creepy” fans you’re
talking about are really so far off for
highlighting the character relationships in
romantic ways!!! and as exciting as the
volleyball is in the show, i think “liking it for the
sports” honestly misses a lot of the point.
volleyball isn’t the important thing about
haikyuu so much as it’s just the vessel that
brings all the characters together and draws
out their emotions in ways that motivate their
emotional growth!!! i’d argue that the show is a
lot lot more about shared love between
teammates than it is actually about the sport
itself

Haikyuu!! is not gay. It's just the Fandom that ships
BoyxBoy in the anime. Not that I'm against it or
anything! I tend to ship like that sometimes too and I
support all kinds of gender :)) A friend of mine is

Again, it's not canonically gay. They aren't really gay

and the fandom knows that and accepts that. They
don't push it and say “NO! THEY ARE GAY AND
THEY'RE DATING-”(unless they're saying that
jokingly, then that's ok). The Haikyuu!! Fandom is
overall, really nice! You gotta rememeber to respect
the ships, though uwu

Here to say the fandom does this and did call
me homophobic and transphobic for correcting
them a lot about the “gay””trans” characters
and ended every sentence of mine with: do
what ever you want make a character trans/non
binary,etc but don’t force it to be canon” and i
get attacked and called names:/ + i even
mentioned the side manga to prove yamaguchi
likes yachi but you can ship what you want +
kenma being a femboy and hinata being
innocent pisses me off i can’t stand it so i
speak up

If by “relationship” you mean a romantic relationship,

shounen anime, so there’s not going to be much in

Yeah, actually! I mean, not exactly like that, but
Haikyuu is full of amazing volleyball plays and
moments. It can get pretty emotional too, because
Haikyuu doesn’t demonize the other teams, so you’re
open to cheer for whoever you want (even though
Karasuno is the team the show focuses on for the
most part).

stated that they initially planned for Atsumu to be a
more mysterious character and that they didn’t think

Related In Haikyuu season 4, I'm confused

about some things. I'm on the scene where they
are going against Date Tech, and why was
Kageyama so upset over Atsumu calling him a
"goody two-shoes"?
In my opinion, it's indirectly an insult. Kageyama
adjusts to everything the spikers want but the spikers
don't adjust to his own game. The question is why the
setter has to obey to every request and the rest of
them don't have to meet his requirements? He's
“goody two-shoes" on the court, following everyone's
will and never his. The spikers remain to their comfort
zone, not exceeding themselves, also holding him
back from evolving more.

I think if you watch the whole Date Tech vs Karasuno

game you'll understand.

parents. I mean, they’re allowed to go to places like
Tokyo and stay in an inn for a week with only their
volleyball coaches and team, so I’m sure they’ve had
consent from their parents. Even if it was in the

There is not really any romance in Haikyuu as far as I
know. Maybe only the shipping in the epilogue. So not
really any romance.

Haikyuu focuses on Sport, more specifically Volley.

Instead of normal volley, it's has a little bit of anime
power(?), for example, some kind of enlightenment on
character that could make them plays better than
usual, etc. In that aspect, it is quite similar to Kuroko
no Basket, who has something like Zone.
