SPIRITUAL COACH CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

MODULE 6
Module 6:
TAPPING INTO HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS

Moving the Client Away from “Intellect” and

Toward “Intuition”
In the “Modern” world, we have been conditioned to rely almost entirely on the intellect and logic
to solve life’s problems. However, very often, this strategy proves to be ineffective or even
completely counterproductive.
That’s because our conscious cognitive abilities are very limited to say the least. We can only draw
from a finite storehouse of memories, experiences, facts, figures and perspectives, all of which are
filtered through our own biases, belief systems and perceptual “Blind Spots.”
And, because the intellect only has access to what we’ve seen, experienced, or done before, it is not
very good at navigating new and novel circumstances. Even when we are successful at thinking our
way through a challenge, the result is likely to be far less desirable than it could have been.
Throughout this course, we’ll cover different things that you can do to help people access and channel
their inner wisdom. But for now, let’s talk about why “Thinking” often doesn’t work when we need
to make a new kind of decision.
A person’s worldview is often seen through the Newtonian model of physics, which states that “Every
action has an equal and opposite reaction.” Now, you may wonder how the subject of “Physics”
relates to your client’s decision-making process.
It goes without saying that your client wants to achieve desirable results in all areas of life. And if
someone believes that every action produces a specific outcome, he can easily become obsessed
with making the best decision possible.
Here’s the problem: your client’s intellect can’t determine what the best course of action is, because
it only has access to a limited amount of information. On the other hand, countless variables influence
any outcome that we experience in life.
Faced with this dilemma, the mind begins to obsess over its own thoughts. Have you ever found it
nearly impossible to decide between two alternatives? Sometimes, a person’s opinion can change
direction, over and over, for weeks, months, or years.
And, while those thoughts are overtaking the individual’s mind, what else is happening? Nothing! He
isn’t actually doing anything to produce the desired result. This is one of the ways that people miss
out on opportunity – by waiting too long before taking action.

Genuine Body Language

To make the best decision possible at any moment, we need to quiet the mind and tune into our
inner truth. For example, think of some challenge or difficulty that you’ve been trying to resolve for
a long time – where you have two or more options to choose from, but can’t decide which one is
best.

1

Module 6:
TAPPING INTO HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS
Now, let’s examine this dilemma in a way that doesn’t rely on knowledge, experience, or mental
processing. Imagine acting on one alternative and, as you do, become aware of the emotions and
sensations that occur inside of your body.
Step into that experience, as though you are there right now, and take some time to notice how you
feel. Does it seem like you belong there; are you in the right place? Does living in that reality have
you feeling fulfilled; is the situation in alignment with who you are?
If the experience is enjoyable, exciting, fun and rewarding, then those are excellent indications that
you’re on the right path. If the imagined task is difficult or challenging, do you still feel a sense of
satisfaction about doing it?
When something is in your Highest Good, putting yourself through the paces, pushing forward
through the learning curve is still a positive experience. Get a good sense of how you feel about
making this decision.
If the choice is about socializing with certain people, then imagine being around them. Can you laugh
in that environment, be yourself, share who you are? Does it feel okay for you to be open with those
people and share your true self?
Simply be present, feel into the moment, and your body will tell reveal everything that there is to
know. By doing this, you are tapping into a level of wisdom that is far beyond what the mind can
contain. These are the types of signals that we want clients to look out for.
Let’s suppose, however, that you imagined making a certain choice and had the opposite experience.
What if you felt stifled, constricted, like you couldn’t be heard?
If you felt drained, fatigued or lacking energy, if you weren’t happy around those people, if you felt
pressured to be someone that you don’t like – those are also very clear signals about what you should,
or in this case shouldn’t do!
Tuning into the body’s intelligence is simple, but the mind makes things complicated. Now, here’s
the master key to this decision-making process: whichever choice your body says is best, do it; start
acting right now or as soon as possible.
This is a powerful exercise to do with those we coach. After your client listens to his body and
completes the first action, he can “Feel” into the next set of options. Doing this at each step will
ensure that your client is making the best choice that he can at any moment.
In fact, a good way for someone to start each day is by sitting down with a pad and paper, calming
the mind and asking, “To create the outcome that I desire, what would be the very best use of my
day?” Then, the person can simply write down whatever comes up, without editing.
Your client might be pleasantly surprised at what emerges and even get a strategy that is far more
powerful than what he could ever have thought out in a logical fashion.

Emotional Energies Can Get Trapped in the Body

Every thought carries an emotional component, which is felt in the body. Thoughts that are of a high
vibration – like love, peace, joy and confidence – heal, nurture and restore the body.

2
copyright www.holistico.com Spiritual Coach Certification Program
Module 6:
TAPPING INTO HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS
On the other hand, emotions that are of a low vibration – such as fear, anger, hate and guilt – damage
the body and cause it to deteriorate. Knowing this, just think about how important it is for your clients
to be aware of and consciously generate their own emotional states.
Here are some of the physical benefits that people get by remaining in a positive emotional state
over time.
✪ Increased Excitement
They are thrilled to wake up and live through each day. Life is exciting for someone whose emotional
state is tuned to a high vibration. People like this are running on all “Cylinders.”
This feeling of enthusiasm brings more energy into the body and makes it easy to remain strong and
keep going all day long.
✪ Better Health
People who have positive attitudes tend to be healthier than their pessimistic counterparts. Thoughts
show up in the body. Anyone who makes a habit out of contemplating enlightened ideas will
experience very few cases of injury or illness.
We all know people who have a negative outlook on life and stay sick most of the time. The physiology
of a person like that will match exactly how he feels. It is surprising that very few people catch on to
this fact of nature.
✪ Increased Strength
Good feelings make us stronger. There’s a simple experiment that you can perform to prove that this
is true. To do it, you’ll need a partner. Both you and this other person should stand, facing one
another.
Remember a time when you were happy, joyful, excited, or very confident. Think about what was
going on and why you felt so good. Step into that scene and experience the emotions as if you are
there now.
As you keep those positive thoughts in mind, lift one arm up and out to the side until it is straight
and perpendicular to your body.
As those good feelings continue to flow through your body, keep the arm straight and have the
other person try to push it down.
Notice how strong you are in that highly charged positive emotional state. After about four or five
seconds, your friend can stop pressing down on the arm.
Then, relax with both hands back at your sides. Take a few moments to clear your mind and get
into an emotionally neutral state.
Next, lift your other arm in the same way, out to your side. This time, however, remember a time
when you were sad, disappointed, upset, or depressed.
Again, bring that scene back to life in vivid detail and step right into it. Feel those negative
emotions flowing through every cell of your body.

3

Module 6:
TAPPING INTO HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS
While you continue to experience these lower-vibration energies, have the other person push
down on the arm that is raised. He or she should do so for about five seconds.
Notice how weak you feel and how easily the tension in your arm can be broken. This happens
because negative thoughts and emotions steal energy from your system.
You can complete the exercise several times, recalling a different positive and negative experience
each go around. It will always work, because the body responds to what you imagine.

Our Perspective Creates Reality

Let’s talk a little bit about perspective and the difference that a person’s point of view makes in terms
of what she gets out of life. Let’s play an imagination game. For a few moments, look at the back of
your hand. That’s right; examine it, observe it, choose one spot and really focus in.
Now, go deeper into that point of focus, until you can make out the little pores and lines on the
surface of your skin. If that hand were under a microscope, you could even see the texture of the skin
– all the ridges and curves that cover that same spot.
Imagine magnifying the intensity of that microscope until you can see each cell in the hand. Notice
how all of them are working together and acting autonomously at the same time.
And if you were to amplify that focus even further, it would become apparent that each cell is actually
an entire universe, with countless other universes inside of it.
Of course, we can’t see all of that happening with the naked eye. But in each cell there can be as
many as one billion actions and information exchanges taking place at any one time. What goes on
inside of the human body is amazing, to say the least.
Okay, let’s move forward with the exercise. Allow that scene to fade from your mind. Now, imagine
that you’re watching a group of insects moving around on the floor.
We know that bugs have their own reality, their own way of doing things. And we can observe them
carrying out a variety of different tasks – building, mating, storing food, raising children; setting up
their lives, so to speak.
However, to many people, insects are insignificant, unconsciousness creatures that carry out their
functions in a robotic fashion. We’d like to challenge this perspective.
What if a new alien life form came to live on Earth – one that was larger than a bear, elephant, or
whale; a being of skyscraper-like proportions, astronomical in comparison to us?
Suppose that this magnificent organism was also unlike us in every way imaginable. To these gigantic
new creatures, we would very much look like those insects that we sometimes watch walking on the
ground.
See, it’s very easy for us to observe other organisms – especially very small ones – without realizing
that each little speck contains an entire universe; a universe filled with other universes.
The layers of existence that are present within the tiniest of beings are infinite as far as we know. In
each square inch of this universe, the number of perspectives available extends far beyond human
perception.

Module 6:
TAPPING INTO HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS
Each creature, no matter how tiny and seemingly insignificant, carries around its own point of
consciousness, its own view of what life is all about. There is not one world, but many, occupying the
same space at all times.
Just think about this. Each cell in your body moves with a purpose, seeks out certain elements, avoids
others, fights, learns, and does many other things that demonstrate intention.

The Man Who Walked Between Worlds

A self-development author was once interviewed. He talked about taking a holiday to ski in the
mountains one week. Apparently, there was some distance to be walked from his cabin to the ski
slopes.
In fact, the lodge was at a relatively low elevation. Getting to the slopes, therefore, was an upward
climb. One morning, some of the snow around camp had melted and it turned the ground into to a
pool of icy, muddy slush.
Well, this man started walking up to the mountain; he had on nice new boots and a clean outfit. Along
the way, his feet sank into the slush with every step, and mud splashed up on his clothes. Pretty soon,
this guy started getting annoyed at the situation. The walk became tougher; his attitude took a
dramatic turn for the worse. After a short while, he was in a very bad mood.
He walked on like this for what seemed to be forever, complaining, feeling bad, experiencing
unpleasant emotions and engaging in very negative self-talk. Things were bad, in his opinion, and
could only get worse.
Now, the entire time, this person had his head down and was suffering in silence. But then something
interesting happened: he was suddenly inspired to look up. And, when he did, it became instantly
apparent that he was standing in the middle of a landscape that was beautiful beyond the
imagination. It was the most magnificent scenery that he’d ever seen or could have imagined to be
possible.
Then the man was hit with a profound realization: he’d been in this environment during the entire
walk and had almost missed it. “What a waste that would have been,” he thought.
He also considered the fact that someone else might have started the walk at the same time, but
with their eyes wide open to landscape. And that person would have been in this magical world
throughout the entire journey. In fact, whoever it was probably wouldn’t have even noticed the slush.
Here’s the question to ask clients: “What reality will you choose to be in today and each day, moving
forward? Because a world filled with magic, beauty, joy, excitement and everything that your client
wants exists right now. It runs side by side with the one that he’s in right now.
The conditions of a person’s life might fluctuate, shift and change at any time. But it’s your client who
gets to decide exactly where he will be in each moment.
For example, someone could be in a position of financial hardship, having very little money left over
to spend after bills have been paid. But at the same time, he could feel thankful for having enough
income to cover his expenses every month.

5

Module 6:
TAPPING INTO HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS
Your client might be surrounded by people who complain and bring him down. Or, he could see the
situation as an opportunity to build inner strength, self-sufficiency, and emotional sovereignty.
Your client could live in a house full of annoying children. Or, he could be in a perfect position to pass
on wisdom to younger generations. The situation could be an opportunity to save someone’s life
before it gets out of control.
We don’t live in the physical world that appears to surround us at all times. Instead, we create reality
from the inside out. Knowing this will give your client the power to choose, shape, and create
circumstances that are in his Highest Good.
One of the best ways to teach this principle is by utilizing it in your own life. So, today, think about
different situations that challenge you, and, for each one, ask yourself:
“What is a more positive, alternative reality that I’ve simply been closing my eyes to?”
Because when you do that, it brings awareness to the situation – and then you can start to choose
where you will be at each moment. This is a powerful practice that will transform you, and your client,
from the inside out.

Script: Changing the Client’s Perspective

The following script demonstrates how you can help clients to look at difficult situations in their lives
more objectively. The coach’s words are in bold, while those of the client are in italics.
All right, Jim, what I understand is that you have been struggling to get along with a new co-worker
– is that correct?
That’s right; there’s a new guy who just rubs me the wrong way, and I can’t get along with him at all.
I see; he rubs you the wrong way, and you can’t get along with him at all. Now, help me out with
some details. What, specifically, does this person do or say that you simply can’t get along with?
The biggest problem is that this person thinks that he’s better than everyone else. He’s always trying
to make me look bad and wants to impress everyone.
Okay. And how do you know these things?
It’s obvious in what he says and does.
It’s obvious in what he says and does. Give me a specific example.
Okay, sure. Well, one time, I came into work; everyone was there, and Bob – that’s his name – put his
briefcase on my desk and left it there for almost 30 minutes.
He’s done that to me a couple of times, but not to anyone else. Everybody knows that the desk I’m
talking about is mine; it’s a blatant act of disrespect.
So, have you said anything to Bob about this?
Well, no. I figure that he’d just make up some excuse, so why waste my breath?

6

Module 6:
TAPPING INTO HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS
I see. Well, I really appreciate you being open and candid with me. And I’d like to see if we can
work toward helping you achieve some clarity and inner peace around that issue during this
session.
Therefore, is it okay if we go through a little exercise that I believe will help?
Yes, of course.
All right. Great. So, what I’d first like you to do is take this pen and pad of paper. Then, in your own
words, write two or three paragraphs to describe exactly what happened on that day.
Just take as long as you need to do that, and let me know when you’re done.
(Pause)
Okay.
Okay. Next, we’re going to comb through these paragraphs and edit what you’ve written down,
but in a very specific way. Imagine that you’re watching this scene on a television screen, where
you can see yourself in the picture. And, because this is a recording, we can only evaluate it based
on what we actually see and hear taking place. Does all of that make sense so far?
Yes, I get it.
You get it, good. Now, take a few moments to notice what you actually see taking place. Remember
that this image is being transmitted through a new camera. So there are no thoughts, emotions, or
self-talk attached to this scene. Let’s go back in time to a couple of minutes before Bob walked in.
What exactly do you see taking place on that TV screen?
I’m standing over in the conference room, talking to our manager Susan. Two guys from accounting
are sitting at their desks. Our receptionist is on the phone. The entire environment is peaceful and
everyone’s happy before Bob walks in.
No – wait a minute. Remember, this is just a picture; it doesn’t contain any feelings, moods, or
interpretations about anyone’s state of mind.
Oh, okay. Then I guess that everyone is simply sitting at their respective places, and I’m in the
conference room.
Okay, good. What can you see happening next?
Bob walks in; he’s coming in with an arrogant smirk on his face, ready to impress everyone as usual.
Hold on – let’s back up. Remember, no interpretations.
Oh, that’s right. Okay, Bob walks in; he’s smiling and moving toward the area where my other co-
workers are sitting.
What else do you notice about Bob?
He’s holding a briefcase in one hand. And, now that I think about it, he is also carrying a tray of donuts
and coffee in the other hand.
What else can you see happening with Bob?

7
copyright www.holistico.com Spiritual Coach Certification Program
Module 6:
TAPPING INTO HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS
He’s struggling to hold the coffee; it may be slipping out of his grip. Then, he puts his briefcase down
on my desk and grabs the tray with both hands.
So, where exactly is your desk in relation to Bob when he walks in?
Well, my desk is the first one that anyone passes when walking through the door.
Interesting. So, after Bob places his briefcase down on your desk, what happens next?
He brings coffee and donuts over to everyone else, then leaves whatever is left over in the break room.
His sales manager’s office is right next door, and so Bob usually steps in and gives a report of the prior
day’s conversions.
How long does that meeting last?
I’d say that it probably takes about 20-25 minutes.
What happens after that?
Bob comes back out, then runs back to grab his briefcase and apologizes – but I know that he doesn’t
mean it.
Well, again, were not making any judgments; this is just a video. But let’s do something else.
Imagine that you are turning off the video components of this recording, so that now we can only
hear the audio.
So, listen to everything taking place, with the video off. What are some of the things that you hear
taking place during this event, now that we don’t have any visual cues?
Well, I hear Bob saying, “Hey, guys, I’ve got you some coffee and doughnuts. Where is Jim?” Then he
says that he’s going to put mine in the break room. After that, the sales manager calls Bob in for a
quick meeting.
Then what?
When Bob leaves the office, he says “Oh, man, I left my briefcase on your desk again. Sorry about
that, Jim; I got sidetracked.” And that’s it.
Okay. That’s it. Now, here’s the last part of that exercise. Take a few minutes to read through your
previous description of that event. But while you do, go ahead and cross out any statement that
can’t be directly observed with the five senses.
In other words, anything that you couldn’t actually see, hear, taste, smell, or touch gets crossed
out. Just take some time to do that now.
(Pause)
All right, let’s see what you’ve got. When you read this statement now, what do you notice; what’s
changed?
Well, I have a new perspective of the entire situation. When I take away all of my personal opinions,
I see that it could very well be that Bob wasn’t trying to disrespect me.
He’s a busy guy who gets distracted a lot by different people. Taking that into account, he’s liable to
make an innocent mistake from time to time.

8

Module 6:
TAPPING INTO HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS
That’s a good point. I’m glad that you were able to get some objectivity around this situation and
really see what was going on.

Client Take-Home Exercise: 7 Ways to Shift Your

Perspective
Renowned American Spiritual Teacher Wayne Dyer was known for saying:
“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
One simple mindset shift can transform your entire life. But there’s no need to wait for insight to
strike at random. Changing perspectives is a skill that you can learn and develop.
In this section, we’ll cover seven tools that you can use to look at life from a different vantage point.
By employing these techniques on a regular basis, you will be able to access creative solutions for
any problem that comes up in life.
✪ Ask yourself, “How important will this be in five or 10 years?”
Think about something that bothers you at this moment. It may be the behavior of a friend, some
lost opportunity, or another situation that you are not at peace with.
Add up all the time, energy and effort that you’ve already invested in this problem. Then, ask
yourself the following questions:
A. “Will this situation be important to me in, say, 10 years?”
B. “Will this problem still have an impact on my life in five years’ time?”
C. “Will I be concerned with this issue next month or week?”
D. “What does this event really mean in relation to the span of my entire life?”
Of course, there are a few memorable and monumental turning points that we all pass through
in life. But most of the issues that we concern ourselves with are temporary and inconsequential.
For example, you may have to wait in a surprisingly long queue at the grocery store, and therefore
the dinner that you planned to make won’t be ready until 10 minutes after some guests arrive.
A circumstance like that may be inconvenient, but how important is it, really? Look at everything
in your life this way to separate what matters from what doesn’t.
✪ Make a diagram, drawing, or storyboard about the problem.
We talk to ourselves about things that happen in life. And, over time, the internal voice of
pessimism and judgment can become very familiar. This is the ego mind at work.
It is always feeding us suggestions about how to think, act, speak and live. Most people never
question their own opinions. Therefore, they continuously draw conclusions from a very limited
perspective.

9

Module 6:
TAPPING INTO HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS
Ideas often change when we get them out of our heads and onto paper. Putting things into a
drawing, diagram, or storyboard form will also enable you to get a sense of the long-range, holistic
implications of whatever is going on.
✪ Write out a gratitude list.
The importance of gratitude cannot be overstated. Take some time each day to write down
everything in your life that there is to be thankful for.
When we are stressed, upset, or faced with a challenge, it is very easy to forget that most things
in life are still going well. At times like these, a gratitude list can help you put life back into
perspective
The easiest way to get more in life is to thank the universe for what you already have. The energy
of “Gratitude” is an attractive force that will draw in more situations for you to appreciate.
✪ Engage in activities that take your mind away from the world.
Many of us are addicted to “Thinking” and do it all the time. We never let the intellectual mind
calm down long enough for any genius insights and ideas to come in.
Make a point, each day, to do some activities that don’t require any thinking. For example, you
could take a walk, do some gardening, swim, or simply sit out in the sun.
✪ Take a trip.
One great way to shift perspectives would be to venture outside of your normal environment.
You have already associated certain emotions, ways of thinking and patterns of behavior to the
places that you normally spend time in.
It can be difficult for you to stay in familiar surroundings and “Think Outside the Box.” Take a short
trip of some sort; one that lasts a day, weekend, or even longer. The goal is to go somewhere that
is significantly different from your hometown.
✪ Ask “Big” questions.
Your Spirit, Soul, or Higher You knows all the answers. But most of the time, we ask very little of
it. Our requests are limited by what we have thought of before.
Start asking questions that stretch your imagination and open the doors of possibility wide. Here
are some examples:
A. How could I double, or even triple, my income this year while working much less?
B. If I could structure my life to be perfect in every way for me, what would that look like?
C. How can I get my article, book, video, or piece of content seen by one million people at once?
✪ Listen to alternative viewpoints.
A closed mind cannot access new information. Many people attach to one way of thinking or
another, in each area of life, and never let anything else in.
You can listen to anyone, without agreeing or disagreeing to what the person says. In this state of
pure observation, the floodgates of infinite intelligence will open for you.

10

Module 6:
TAPPING INTO HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS
Later on, you may determine that certain parts of what the speaker said were true and others
were not. Either way is perfectly fine.
The goal is to simply be open – because then your intuitive mind will bring forward ideas, insights
and revelations that relate to, or completely transform, what the other person was talking about.
Use these techniques in any area of life where you feel stuck, unclear, or at a loss for solutions. To
accelerate your Personal and Spiritual Development, practice each exercise on a regular basis.
