Introduction to Microbiology

Course Description:

The Personal and Community Health (PCH) course is designed to equip students with essential
knowledge and practical skills related to health and well-being, both at a personal and community
level. This course will cover various aspects of health, including the importance of nutrition,
hygiene, mental health, disease prevention, and health promotion. Students will learn how to adopt
healthy lifestyle practices and support others in improving their health outcomes. The course will
also focus on community health, highlighting the role of auxiliary nurses in promoting public
health, understanding health policies, and addressing social determinants of health. By the end of
the course, students will have the tools to maintain their personal health, support others in health
promotion, and contribute to improving the health of their communities.

Course Objectives:

 By the end of the course, students will be able to:


 Understand the basic principles of personal health and well-being.
 Develop strategies to promote a healthy lifestyle and prevent common diseases.
 Understand the role of an auxiliary nurse in promoting health at the individual and
community levels.
 Identify key social, environmental, and economic factors that impact community health.

Week 1: Introduction to Personal Health and Well-being

Components of personal health: physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being

The concept of holistic health: integrating body, mind, and spirit

The role of lifestyle choices in health (diet, exercise, sleep, and habits)

The importance of self-care and personal hygiene

Lesson 2: Nutrition and Healthy Eating

Basic principles of nutrition (macronutrients, micronutrients, hydration)

The role of nutrition in preventing chronic diseases (diabetes, heart disease, obesity)

Creating a balanced diet for various age groups

Understanding food labels and portion control

Strategies for promoting healthy eating habits
